How to Zero Your IR / Vis Laser

In this video we go over the two main laser zeros, converging & constant offset. Both of these zeros have their time and place depending on application. Laser devices where the IR & visible laser is slaved we recommend to zero during the day for ease. If your IR laser is not slaved to your visible laser or you do not have a visible laser these same zeros still hold true and would be done under night vision.

Another tip ive used for a cowitness laser is to turn the red dot off after you have the two merged and then treat the laser as your red dot through your optic. Accomplishes the same task but can allow you to keep your same body position relative to the rifle to minimize the possibility of shifting your rifle due to an unnatural shooting position.

I’d like to see a comparison of the two zeros on steel from 100 yards-300 yards to see the difference on poi. It’s just a few inches difference but still interesting to see.

Thank you! Agreed, especially since every laser has a slightly different offset. So working on the fundamental reason of using a constant offset then you want your offset of the exact laser you are using.

I like the constant offset thought for being a civilian but if I see a need for cowitness is there a suggested distance for converging zero? My zero on my lpvo now is 36 yds and I have an offset red dot set for 10 yards.
@chrissnoeberger192

You can get a parallel zero without firing a shot. Just do what you did initially, except use an actual target - and mark where the laser is. Go back to 50, have a buddy with a walkie talkie and aim at the target (take bolt out of rifle to make safe). Buddy will tell you what adjustments to make. Go back to 100 to confirm it's still parallel. Should be a small correction at 100 if needed. If you're by yourself use a ransom rest and really make sure the gun doesnt move.

@DaveSmith-cp5kj 2 месяца назад
@@m118lr It's pointless to shoot live ammo you aren't confirming anything. This isn't like zeroing an optic. When you zero off another sight the relative alignment is automatically established. You can actually do this even simpler by aiming with your red dot at a distant target at or beyond your max effective range and then zeroing the laser to the POA. Bam. It is for all purposes the same as a parallel zero.

@messengeratheart

Just rotate the rifle 12 degrees or so and line the laser up directly over the bore and zero at that angle and it will follow the bullet drop at the angle. Zero at 10 to 12 yards and the laser will closely follow the bullet trajectory andbe close to a second zero at 50 yards. You can fine tune it on at 50 yards then back up and see where it converges at close distance. Then you know exactly where the laser and bullet zero align and the laser will slightly be just below the bullet between those two points but just slightly. Hate using a scope to set a laser, just doesn't work as well, just look down the laser instead.

The subject is way over complicated by old school thinking. The easiest and most accurate solution is at looking through your NOD zero your "IR" laser to your already zeroed optic at the "furthest" distance you can see, that way your hold over/unders are exactly the same all without firing a single shot. Since you zero it at the furthest distance there will be no "crossing over". Also do "not" use your vis laser to zero your "IR" lase and assume it will be zeroed also. The "co alinged" laser is not co aligned since they're not on top of each other, so it will never be co aligned at all distances.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj 2 месяца назад
This is how I do it. However, the method in the video is still necessary if you have a short range (example guys in NPE setting up their gear in a hotel room, use a laser). Or you got stuff like thermal weapon sights. Laser boresighter is very useful.

I ordered my NGAL last week (wed or thur I think) and it arrived on tue. Since we are having summer in January (peaked out at 70), I thought I would make some adjustments to the laser(s) to at least get them close to zero'd. I am going for a parallel zero so I have the visible laser just below and a tad to the left of my zero'd ATN X-Sight. Now when I turn on the IR laser, its showing up a good distance below the visible laser. Which laser do you recommend using when I zero the NGAL???

Just curious, what if you cut out the square of point of aim and let the laser pass through. Would that work and should it let you know that you are on the point of aim?

Question can you see ir laser with the nv eotech exps3 without mods?
@LicentiaArmsCo
@LicentiaArmsCo 2 года назад
You cannot. To see an ir laser you would need actual night vision or a night time compatible digital camera. The NV mode on Eotechs simply dims the reticle enough to not damage tubes when used with night vision.

I have a question. If you zero the laser at 50 yards with a constant offset will it still be constant at distances under 50 yards?
@LicentiaArmsCo
@LicentiaArmsCo 2 года назад
Yes, the constant offset is just that... constant. The reason is is because the offset is simply the distance between the last output and the center of the bore. That distance stays the same no matter what the yardage.
@BringerOfD
@BringerOfD 2 года назад
Just to clarify, the constant offset is HORIZONTAL offeset. this is probably the part you're confused about. the vertical will change.

How did u aim ur laser to its exact location beside barel b4 this video ?????? Lasers don't come zeroed so technically u gota move ur lazer around right ???????
@LicentiaArmsCo
@LicentiaArmsCo 9 месяцев назад
lasers do not come zeroed but they are generally bore sighted to be around a decent starting point. When you put the suppressor up to the target the laser is so close the "zero" doesn't change your impact zone at that distance so the impact zone still holds when you go to distance to start the zeroing process.

If you laser is offset on the rail, the same concept applies and you just learn your offset. If you are meaning the laser on the laser device isn't centered over the bore, that is why you you the method we show here.
