I'm with you Brian that work and those type of tools are fantastic. It looked like that shallow gouge was in the family for generations. I'll take 2 28ft hulls and catamaran time. Of course you need a place to launch from and beach.
@@zhimz1976 he is my cousin if want to deal with him just locate me first and I will be the one to inform to them, by the way I'm barangay official of the said barangay bonotbonot Buenavista Bohol
Likewise admiring the craftmanship and if that hull is carved out from a solid piece of wood, it must be durable and sturdier, compared to boats which bodies were just pieced together, no doubt. I would greatly appreciate the disclosure of the place of business and how he may be contacted by interested parties. Thanks in advance.
Any treatments done on the wood, panels, stringers or longerons? Are they using sealants between joints? How do they make em sea stable or at best worthy? It'd be absolute pleasure to watch.
Brian ask the blogger sentai7 for additional advice on commissioning one and about the maintenance costs because as I understand it they need a lot of maintenance .I believe his is a 45 footer
My cousin James pacaldo I'm carlo pacaldo thanyu to trusting my work is peace full to se my work thanyu sir welcome pacaldos family to share how to work pamboat
Great vid very informative and interesting as i am in the phils most of the year now and in future like the idea of getting a big boat thanks for vid but i live most of the time in santa cruz laguna
Love seeing old crafts passed down through generations ,Iwas lucky being raised and taught by my grandfather so my work is out of place in this age of computers .Still its important to preserve the old skills and appreciate heart mind and soul being part of a product in this world throwaway consumerism!
Thank-you...Brian, yes hand built Wood boats are rare these days. I Live in beautiful Mayo, Florida. Seminole Indians here still build canoes only they use one large log from Cypress tree. They burn log and scrape out the hull. Form shape as they work. Canoes last 100 or more years. One canoe was found on bottom of Silver springs in Ocala, Florida in good shape, They say it could be 300 years old. I really enjoy your findings. Thanks again. Tad.
If Brian was incredibly impressed at how James built small fishing boats by hand, I couldn't imagine what Brian would think on how the biblical "Noah's Ark" was built some 10,000 years ago....lol.....
I don’t think you’re going to have to go back to have James build your boat because I noticed that Taytay was paying very close attention to the details on the boat. The really nice thing about Taytay building your boat, is that it will only take 3 days 😂😂😂
Very impressive. If you was to get one unfinished and if they have the stuff they're rap it in fiberglass. That's what they do in the States on the wooden boats it will last forever. If no fiberglass just keep the painted regularly.
I think our ancestors dont use paint and no need for a fibreglass as long as the wood that was used is the ironwood or we call it Sudjang and its moist free. 9 Balangay boats and a 1 Mother boat found in Butuan, Philippines. The mother boat was actually 82 ft tall and has 120 rowers each side matching the description of Pigafetta (chroniclers of Magellan). When they dug it there are still some sea water inside and surprisingly the wood was still intact. check it in RU-vid.
for someone who claims to have been raised by a boatbuilder, that's quite an ignorant thing to say. that filipino builder with 4 kids is charging only 14,000 pesos for 2 weeks of work --- INCLUDING RAW MATERIALS --- that's only P1,000 pesos or $18 USD per day, which is not even enough to support a family of 5 in the US. you should be ashamed of yourself.
@@igpitopol8588 my apologies I was not talking about the boat building specifically I was replying to a comment Brian had made at the beginning of the video,
@@unchainedbeast true everything goes walkies here if not tied down.usually a close member of the family does the watching .if I lived on the beach I would probably invest in one myself but I am about 15 miles from the sea .
I don't get the 3 thumbs down I saw when I viewed this video. I guess there are a few mean spirited unhappy people that just have to hate no matter where you go. What is it? If it's not a mega yacht right off the factory line it isn't a boat? I just don't understand and I hope I never do.
Great video Brian. Always good to see that the whole world hasn't forgotten how to build by hand. Have to believe that every boat that man makes is extraordinary, unique and no 2 perfectly alike. Very very cool to see.
