How Two Families Shaped American Politics (& War) For Their Profit

Capitalism is as American as apple pie. A simple Internet search of ‘Americana’ will reveal that corporate brands are ubiquitous throughout the landscapes of the United States.
But the biggest companies aren’t necessarily the ones with theme parks with fluffy mascots. There are plenty of huge businesses that hide behind subsidiaries. In the case of ‘Amway’, part of their longevity has been down to having friends in very high places. VERY high places.
Even George Bush Junior gave a eulogy at the funeral of one of the founders.
Longevity is also helped by having a couple hundred or so billion in the bank too. Especially when they have to fork out tens of millions of dollars to settle out of court every time the FTC does another investigation into pyramid scheme practices.
For many, Amway is a cult-like scam whose operators should be in jail. For others, it’s an innovate business structure who has a right to keep their cards close to their chest.
Is this a case of ‘haters gonna hate’ or ‘scammers gonna scam’? Both of these opinions seem appropriate for a company whose name is short for “American Way”.
So today we’re going to learn How History Works as we unravel ‘The Corporate History of Amway’.

I'm the son of immigrants, and I've been approached multiple times by MLM recruiters. Probably because they thought I didn't know how things work, and I had that "American Dream" sparkle in my eyes. A lot of these MLMs seem to go after immigrant communities in particular, which I think is particularly heinous.

My mom sold Amway in the 80's. We still have most of a set of cookware she gave us. I don't know the financial details, but I do know that she didn't get fabulously wealthy. I got involved with another MLM, Primerica, in the 90's. It lasted less than a year. I paid to attend monthly meetings. I never earned a dime. They don't present as religious and conservative at first, but over time that aspect of it became apparent and another reason I dropped out.

Guys stop giving your hard earned money to these suckers who can't earn a honest living and are willing to scam thousands of people for their benefit. If you're reading this go ask your "mentor" how much money he actually makes and how and you'll know the answer. Great video! Last year I actually got approached by an Amway recruiter in a Walmart checkout line in Florida because I wore a short-sleeved button-up and the guy talked about retiring young with his wife from an online business (I assumed it was drop-shipping) but he kept it very vague. We met up for coffee to talk further. He was very friendly, and even gifted me a book and talked about family and religion, and it turned out the whole time he was recruiting me into the Amway cult (I went to the Amway meetings and it literally is a cult). I’m young enough to not know about all the Amway recruiters in the 90s but I got sold by the idea of early retirement. He was hovering over me during the whole account setup and the first thing he wanted me to do was buy a $100+ sample kit and sell to family. Safe to say I ghosted him and deleted my account

No, the creator didn't even know the USA has a corportist economic model and not a capitalist one. Corportism is a socialist-capitalist economic model. Capitalism is free market and therefore has no central bank or the equivalent. The USA admits it is a mixed economy.

Back in the 90s there were several years when I was approached roughly every three months by someone (different people) wanting me to join Amway. I quickly realised that if the figures they gave were correct, one in thirty people here in New Zealand were signed up to Amway and there was consequently no way anyone who actually sold the products could make money. Also, if by some miracle someone did manage to build up their own successful network, the higher-ups would force them to sell the network to them for not much money. This additional scam was of course just presented as a bonus means of additional profit. From the above and several other things I observed, my personal opinion is that I truly loathe Amway. My involvement with it is limited to time wasted by people trying to scam me into joining.

We had a situation where our up line legitimately made us dissolve branches and we almost made it this level called emerald. One of our holiness did in fact reach that level and an interesting ceremony by the company occurred where they guy legitimately was pulled from work. And given the keys to a company paid vacation and a keys to a new car and home. And it was like a bash. Our up lines didn’t agree to how we were setting up our third line and also it started becoming almost like a cult. But some people who did make it to that level did in fact radiate some happiness and success because they did work their butts off for years. A lot were those who used innovative product methods to sell as many as possible products with a code or point system that eventually adds up painfully slow. A lot of other rival systems are similar. Yet another thing that is quite sad and interesting is that people also have the opportunity to buy stock and puts in the company to make even more money yet this information is kept compartmentalizations. Which is very unfortunate. However. The lessons learned is the value of networking and personal development in technology. You don’t exactly move up the ladder unless you can implement sales via tech and social and teach your strategies to down lines. Similar to franchising, or point based system. They pay an up line cut or royalty fee and also other feee to keep operating in line. It’s their operational manual that I looked into it that explains things. It’s alright but it sucks the money from the underlines. And their time and efforts as well simply because they don’t know how to manage or use the am-way system. As it was intended to at all because most immigrant communities repeat the same bs and don’t have a deep sense of understanding or know how to do things in the company or with the community. Yet, if they knew. They would understand the situation.

My parents did amway in the 2000s. My dad had lined up a few businesses to sell to and it was going good. My dad was considering doing that full time but then his mentor, the guy that got him in and a level above him. Swooped in and stole his two coffee shop clients (both who were adding new locations like crazy) and a small school district. Which was about 3 quarters of his sales. The mentor just offered the same products slightly cheaper because more senior members get better discounts. My parents still occasionally become sellers again just for the discount because they like the products for themselves. The lesson, the business has the market saturated. The only way for them to make more money is to get new people in to steal their ideas, membership fees and time.

Something you didn't touch on in neither of your MLM videos is how these "business owners" are NOT owners of anything. An owner of a business is the highest chain of command and can make any changes to the business that they want. If the packaging of a product is green, they have the power to change it to purple. If you can't do that, you own nothing. If tomorrow, these MLM's decided to shut down, these "business owners" would have no power to stop them. And several MLM's have converted to just selling in retail stores (I still do not buy the products, just out of prinicpal) and it leaves their reps with absolutely nothing. They are 1099 contractors/contracted employees, that's it. So by even calling it a "business opportunity" is a lie.

The surprising part is they aren’t idiots and they aren’t struggling even a little bit. Every time it happens, I can’t help but laugh at them. One of the schemes they got involved with was one where you would buy discounts on services from regular businesses, kinda like Groupon or living social but as a pyramid scheme. Yes the tools cult as you say is the real scam to me. It's the recruiting and pyramid part of the business. They are willing to take so much of your time and money and will manipulate you to sink all your resources in it. Then they only talk about Amway being their main source of income. The rich uplines are glorified motivational speakers. They aren't Amway reps 😂 they get to the level where they are not selling products but recruiting for their downline, speaking at conferences, and having private night owls you have to qualify for and making it sooo exclusive. They are freaking worshipped by the newcomers. I remember a diamond in my area who I was walking around with at a conference literally had to have body guards, and people would follow him around like he is a prophet, just hoping to get a glimpse of his aura up close 🙄

My parents were taken in by ScAmway back in the 90s. I remember them talking about how their upline took their kids to Disneyland all the time. And sure...while that's a fun goal, I look back and see that it would have been impossible for my working class parents who were struggling as it was to just stay afloat. Let alone how much money they had to fork over for Amway. And my dad was not a great salesman. The amount of ScAmway products in our house was palpable. My mom used to put her sewing supplies in the green Nutrilite supplement containers. At least they were good for something. I'm convinced there was something in the supplements that made people more susceptible and calm about losing all their money.

My Aunt and Uncle were pulled into getting involved with Scamway/NoWay in the mid 80s. To my Mom's surprise, they actually did REALLY well with it. Its Interesting because there's quite a few videos on Amway, but none are as detailed and full as the Controversial/Now Idle Illuminaughtii Channel. She made a Two Part Saga going into Thoroughly into Amway's entire History to ALL the Legal nonsense as well as Expose's done by Chris Hansen on when Amway changed its name back in the mid 2000s.

The Amway business model is a cash flow positive industry. How do you lose money if there is a 90-180 day money back guarantee on consumable products? It's ironic to me that the author of this video sees all the holes in the business but doesn't point out all the aspects that make it great.
@thebestSteven

Nice slight of hand you just pulled. MLMS like Amway are cash flow positive because the people at the bottom of the pyramid have to buy all the product and most of all the recruitment/training/propaganda material NOT because they sell product to people not associated with Amway.

But swear xs energy drink is the best energy drink I ever had. Other stuff would be sold out to stock or sell to clients. People can be legit or people can be greedy it has ruined relationships in my past but, as a genuinely good person with disabilities. Amway can be good even as a pyramid just there's dirty (shady) people. And most times they only cared about money and status. Some lose it all and get thrown to the side. It can work. My father and mother were on Amway from about 1998 - 2005 on Brazil. They talked and went to conventions just liked in this video. They rose to the emerald rank, and were on the top 1% on the region. Many trips won to go on cancun, beaches, disney (as far as I know). I got the first Nintendo 64 oon my city because of them. Now, almost 20 years later I see how they were on a cult. Some people on my town still hate them for selling a lie (that they also didn't know it was). They left when they were supposed to rise to the diamond level and aquire that lavish lifestyle but had the rug pulled from under them, looong story... It's a difficult subject to talk even if they work on areas not related to that. And we still have Amway's overpriced products on the house to this day (they buy from some "friends" that never quit).

I’m 100% sure in my belief that if I am not receiving cash money that I control then I’m not an employee or work associate of said organization. No cash no service. The Bible says you are not to defraud people and you are to never not pay anyone for work. That means if you want work done then you need to pay money 💰. I find it sad how many people are willing to give crap loads of money 💴 to prosperity preachers but refuse to pay workers an equitable wage or salary. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Do more research on the blackwater "massacre" before stating it as fact. Politics played a huge role in painting the narrative, and they all had constitutional rights violated multiple times. The govt was going to convict them no matter what, even if took 3 trials. There was even drone footage of the entire shootout, but conveniently there was a 7 or so minute gap in the video. (7 minutes where they were ambushed & shot at from several locations). It only shows the aftermath, which includes their humvee with a shot-up radiator. Yes, 1 car of civilians was shot at & killed. But at the time car bombs were a major threat. So they were authorized to shoot at approaching/speeding vehicles that dont yield to commands or warning shots. But the govt/army brass broke a lot of laws to try & nail those guys. Like the laptops given to them in jail for building their defense. Which were found & proven to have the same spyware/malware that the govt was caught using to undermine the defense of other soldiers. The full story, and shady/illegal actions of the Obama/Hillary govt is the real reason Trump pardoned those men.

The voters living in the Congressional District that includes Grand Rapids and Ada elected a Democrat in 2022 for the first time since the Watergate era. Governor Whitmer grew up in the GR area and graduated from the same high school as Dick, Jr. Also, the previous two Republicans representing GR in Congress each voted to impeach Trump. So Amway doesn't control everything that happens in Grand Rapids.

Ameay is a business like any other. Products, sales, and recruitment . One or all 3 is a choice. And like many other businesses. People often try, quit and move on. Amway is a business pyramid like all businesses. Also it is a great training course for many with out the college expense. I know many who' ve built other sucessful businesses from all they learned in the Amway business. Things they dont teach in college. In businness you either provide a service or a product. And in some both. Whether your in real estate or car sales. A plumber or an electrician. You do what you do best. Life is often a testing and training ground before we settle in to what works for us. That ultimately comes from those we meet along the way who taught us something useful, we needed.

Yeah a customer I met while working tried to get me into it. I was skeptical by the 3rd step which is the seminar/event. After sharing some personal stuff he said he wanted to continue moving forward into step 4. Seeing that this company was started back during one of my favorite decades I tried finding documentaries on the two founders and companies and instead came across tons of videos like this one. I was like I don't have time to get played. I am in no position to endure anymore financial hardships and I never liked any of these types of companies cultish vibes, which I get every time I get lured into attending an event. The customer had a real cold guilt trip tone when I told him I didn't want to waste his time and meet up for the 4th step. It was a bummer to see him express that coz I credited him for having a far more sincere approach then the countless others who approached me with financial freedom opportunities. I'm glad I know in full now what this stuff is all about. Now I know to not even entertain the offer ever again from someone claiming to offer a job/business opportunity. Thank you for posting these videos!
