Varg is the cobain of black metal (no music theory) but somehow he wrote songs which sound more sophisticated than ones written by guys that can shred in any scale across the fretboard lol.

This is true. I go into Guitar Center and teens usually come in there doing all kinds of tricks across the fretboard. Its like a constant wall of irritating noise from a maxed out amp. When they stop, I can hear older people playing simple country and blues licks that are relaxing. Even though I am not a country fan, it sounds very good.

Good writing serves the song and there’s definitely something to be said about letting things breathe. Technical playing is impressive…but putting notes in the ‘right’ places or leaving them out entirely is where the magic lives.

Varg knows his fretboard very well. He has a creative musical intuition, which takes quite some time to develop.

Noticed that the verse riff is similar to A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit. Also thank you for this. Noticed that the right way is actually much easier and sounds better than the way I was playing it :D

this was learned directly from the video varg made. most people either play it wrong or tab the same notes on different strings

Have been considering it, few reasons stopping me 1) copyright, 2) my laptop can only take so much memory now, external hard drives help but not when editing videos 3) I can cater to more people with riff lessons, upload more content, and cater to more people since it’s faster work I do plan to do playthrough videos, once I get a laptop upgrade most likely

A detail concerning the first riff. I think he goes from the B string to the A string (insteat of G to E) when he is playing the Bb chord shape
