Somehow I feel like watching horror movies on VHS was always scarier than DVDs or streaming platforms. It always felt eerie having the film physically present with you, like if you cracked the tape open there'd be something in there with it
@jmn327
@jmn327 4 года назад
And underrated aspect of watching movies on VHS, to me, was always the clunky sounds that popping a tape in, rewinding it, and popping it out later would make. Don't really get that so much with modern media, but it almost serves like a curtain rise and fall for the senses, or a minor jolt that, like you say, works well with the feeling one usually has after watching horror.

@@greenhowie That fact that DVDs are literally non-linear (the data is compiled from the entire disc, which is not in order) and at least semi-interactive is an idea that was regrettably never exploited by the horror genre. Just imagine an anthology work where you choose each short film in the DVD menu, but the shorts are altered depending on the order that they are viewed. I think that might created some shitted pants.

My favorites include your video on the Exorcist, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Evil Dead trilogy, and Brawl in Cellblock 99. Haven't watched the video past the sponsor segment, but I wanted to comment on that. I normally ignore, or skip past, sponsor segments in videos. But this one caught my attention. Back when I had a sub to Netflix (before they went full on braindamaged) I would really only comb the horror/thriller/suspense genres. Same with Amazon Prime 90% of the time (though I keep that because of the free shipping). Shudder caters to everything I was already looking for, and it's what they focus on. Thank you, Ryan, for accepting their sponsorship. I likely would never have heard of them otherwise.

Ryan Hollinger, I was wondering if you would ever be willing to do a video based off of one of the best itallian giallo horror movies like the ones made by Dario Argento and his influence on the genre and the whole slasher genre as a whole, considering Suspirias soundtrack was a direct inspiration for John Carpenter when making his soundtrack for Halloween. I am a huge fan and I'd love to see you talk about a film like that because it's in of my favorite movies and you're one of my favorite youtube channels along with being my favorite horror related channel, a close second being dead meat. I love the detail you go into and the appeal of your videos for me is impeccable. If you were to ever do a video on the itallian giallo subgenre of film, I'd love to watch it and would be excited to hear what you have to say! Anyways, I'm just a fan, but thank you for the vids and keep them going!

I'll always remember this. I saw it when I went to Europe for the first time (from the U.S.) and it was the realest film I had seen. The violence and nudity were bounds beyond what I had seen before. The experience of sitting at a bus stop in the rain, replaying over and over what I saw will live with me.
