Do you know of any instances where a game director doesn't know more than the very basics of game development? Im studying psychology but my dream job would be a game director or lead balance designer for competitive multiplayer games, did a lot of modding of older games and stuff like that and I'm willing to learn some basic game development in order to get to those positions but I'm not that interested in learning programming languages and being proficient in various dev tools.

@@Rio-un5jl A good method I follow has essentially this mindset: If you have a vision, learn the tools or skills to make it a reality. If you don't want or can't learn, find someone else who does/can. Create a team. Reach that vision together. It's nice to have some semblence of knowledge in programing and stuff, but it's not completely necessary. As long as you have that creative vision and strive, you can accomplish anything. In this day in age, it's all about networking. Sign up for some focus testing sessions at your local game studios. Try to meet new people, get some insight. Go to events and seminars, too. Gather all the knowledge you can about what goes into making a game. Then find someone who has like-minded goals that maybe likes the programming part, but not the ethics and theory that goes behind the rest. Become a team. Find an artist if neither of you can draw. Add them. One visionary, one programmer, one artist. All it takes to make a game. :)
