Vietnam's ascent into the world of electronic manufacturing was largely due to foreign investors. However, that would also not happen had there been no proper government policies. Why do you think Vietnam's manufacturing industry succeded? Let us know down below!
@theforrestbelow
@theforrestbelow Год назад
You left out a majour reason for the shift which is the ongoing China issue. Where China has become a unsafe investment companies are looking to diversify their production. Then the second part is Taiwan with TSMC which is in the crosshairs of China. Making Vietnam as a relatively safe area of investment for semiconductors, diversifying the supply chain for majour corporations.
@vanphan9318
@vanphan9318 Год назад
@@theforrestbelow That's just one reason, not all, the Vietnamese government has long oriented high-tech development policy and is very determined, sincere and has a development strategy for a long time.
@markn6941
@markn6941 Год назад
@@vanphan9318 The main reasons semiconductors manufacturing are moving to Vietnam and not other SEA countries are because of Vietnam's closeness to china's massive supply chain to support semiconductor raw materials and components. Second Vietnam's populations are young with the second highest IQ scores in SEA. Third Vietnam's have a long coastline which they can easily access sea ports to ship their products anywhere in the world.
@tooltalk
@tooltalk Год назад
@@theforrestbelow : the Korean companies's investment in Vietnam started much earlier as indicated in the video. Samsung started pulling out of China in early 2010's and closed the last Chinese smartphone factory in 2019. TSMC has no investment in Vietnam.
@tooltalk
@tooltalk Год назад
@@markn6941 : Samsung is one of the largest chip companies in the world, but there is no high-tech, high-value semi manufacturing in Vietnam. Vietnam for now is mostly for low-tech supply-chain -- ie, assembly/packaging. The semi manufacturing is very capital-intensive, not necessarily resource intensive -- ie, sillicon is one of the most abundant elements in this planet and wafer are often built whereas chips are produced and most electrochemicals come from Japan -- and relies on extensive upstream supply-chain (ie, advanced toolings/equipments) from all over the world.

@Andy Quach The main reason is that Vietnam’s talent system does not support becoming an important chip production center, and packaging and testing may be possible, and the threshold for packaging and testing is relatively low. The demand for design and chip manufacturing talents is strong, and Vietnam is difficult to meet. China lacks a large number of integrated circuit talents and is making up for talents in this area, let alone Vietnam.
@jingzhi2898
@jingzhi2898 Год назад
@Andy QuachMoreover, Vietnam's current industrial system is weak, and Vietnam's trade surplus is still relatively low (a large proportion of which is a surplus in agricultural products). The comprehensive cost and technical capabilities of Vietnam's manufacturing industry are still relatively poor. Most of Vietnam's manufacturing industry is still in the downstream industry chain. The lack of a heavy industrial system means that Vietnam still has a long way to go to develop a high-level industrial country.

I think people in the West misunderstand the socialist projects in China and Vietnam. First of all, neither country was isolated from the global market by choice, so to act like their initial lack of global trade was an intended policy choice is fallacious. But more importantly, their choices to actively seek out foreign trade was never an abandonment of their goals because they saw that their system wasn't working, as it is often painted, it was a result of the fact that they had completed a level of state building that would set them up to make trade deals that were not exploitative of their working population. The people of China and Vietnam would not be experiencing the benefits of economic growth the way they are now if they had not tirelessly and courageously built systems to protect themselves from economic oppression.
