Genetic mutations aren’t as scary as they sound. With RNA viruses, like the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19, they’re happening constantly - basically every time it replicates. But not all mutations stick, and not all the ones that stick are bad. In fact, mutations are actually necessary for tracking and containing COVID-19. Here’s how viruses mutate and why you shouldn’t be worried when you hear about them.

Since mutation in virus is always similar we can "predict" the way this one mutates, because the structure is similar to sars or mers. Now with further studies it was revealed that this virus Is more infectious, that changed the way we look to the virus. Were they wrong? No, bc in January we didn't have to worry about a virus only in china that seemed like sars and mers. Now when it escaped china, start to worry

As a biomedical researcher, I think it is great that the mutation rate of SARS-CoV-2 is comparatively low (currently, it is even estimated to be lower than the rate of SARS, which already has a very low mutation rate compared to other RNA viruses). As mentioned in the video this could be great news if we want to develop an vaccine. A recent study has also shown that SARS-CoV-2 is probably not able to spread in dogs or livestock but might (unfortunately) replicate in cats (I recently made a video about the evolution of COVID-19). Actually the "experts" story is remarkably unchanged. Covid-19 is a deadly virus, we have no medical treatments for it, the only way to slow it is by social isolation, we MUST stop our medical system from being flooded with cases, eventually 60-70% of the population will get it and then we might have a chance of complete control, unless we get real lucky with a vaccine, which, historically we have had trouble with. You might be confusing the rose-coloured musings of Politicians, Doctors (medical advice yes, pandemic advice -NO) and certain news broadcasters. Great video overview of viral mutations. The latest Covid Omicron variant has now been documented with 50 genetic mutations which the video described as being highly unlikely. It is currently being seen that the Omicron variant is replacing the previously widespread Delta variant, is highly infectious with symptoms that are very "cold-like" and is also leading to far fewer hospitalizations. There is starting to be some speculation that this may be the transition from a pandemic to an endemic. Let's hope this is correct.

@mayacokie4811
@mayacokie4811 2 года назад
No u are exactly correct
@Lorddreginaldd
@Lorddreginaldd 2 года назад
No. They aren’t the same. I can see how you’d think so but antibiotic resistance is actually when an antibiotic kills all microbes not resistant and leaves the resistant ones with the ability to multiply. There’s less competition for it in that area due to the antibiotics. To limit this you have to consider how often people use antibiotics, etc. There are ways to prevent resistance though. This virus situation is different because viruses need to replicate in cells in order to mutate. So if they enter cells, mutations can happen because they’re random. If they aren’t allowed to replicate, they can’t mutate. Vaccines prevent them from replicating in cells. The people without proper protection from vaccines give viruses chances to mutate and then the vaccine resistant ones may show up as the vaccines prevents the non resistant ones. I’m not trying to call people out but I’m explaining why mutations occur and it’s because they’re given the >>chance

Common reports from scientists in the media say that variants or mutations sometimes occur when slight error had been committed during the process of copying or replication of the viruses. However, would it also be possible for viruses to mutate new variants that would be able to cope in vaccinated bodies and breakthrough its immune system? If so, it is possible for the Covid-19 to thrive or survive by adapting in a given circumstances that could lead to mutations and diversity in order to have the replicates better chance of survival or breakthrough against vaccines.

Basically viruses, in general, are still evolving to become more compatible with more species thus increasing its selection of hosts. Since humans and livestock/agricultural animals live in such close proximity to each other it will benefit the virus to be compatible with all of those different species to increase its ability to replicate within that community of humans and animals. These viruses are clearly smarter than humans...they are still evolving as humans stopped evolving altogether.

How is a worldwide Quarantine, economic depression and a few hundred thousand deaths because a virus mutated to jump from animal to human nothing to worry about? Actually better question, if thats not cause for concern WHAT THE HELL IS?

If covid mutated several times before infecting humans, what was the host organism? Or was it engineered in a lab?

Why do you think SARS-CoV-2 has not shown mutations in the RBD like SARS-1 2003? Seems it was already adapted to humans at the start of the pandemic. SARS-1 showed clear adaption and mutations in the RBD from its natural animal host to humans throughout the pandemic in 2002-2003. Its obvious that SARS-CoV-2 is a human virus from the beginning. As you stated in the video, its basically stable. weird huh?

Why is covid mutating so rapidly compared to any other active viruses inspite if having a proofreading mechanism. Seems like it is getting some external help in evolution. Thus making countries a open testing ground

So I’d like to know when do the viruses mutate if they can’t even multiply themselves. And once it’s hacked to human cell is only being built and copied . And that is called infection then. But they don’t even have their own mechanisms like metabolism. !? How would this thing even know to mutate their protein spike to be more effective next time . In case humans become immune to previous variant. Now most people know that cell’s nucleus do produce certain DNA to build certain recovery elements. What should we call it if some cells in our body didn’t actually have chance to get whole list of nutritions for the process and the poor cells will then start producing errors within the DNA. Body then will recognise the problem and will have to most likely get rid of this error. Now question is. .. What error do we expect from the effected cells. If we don’t know what’s missing from the nutritions list. But certainly human body will need to purify itself from the errors through the blood and releasing it to the lungs. Or we know other mechanisms body has to prevent ongoing mistakes???

In fiction, mutations are almost always related to strengths and advantages, but in nature most mutations are detrimental, some are nuetral, and very few are advantageous.

How can a virus be so smart to mutate so quickly in small time frame. Adaptation and evolution to survive the environment takes years or decades. How is covid such an intelligent virus.
@chewsir
@chewsir 2 года назад
It's not a 'intelligent virus'. This virus, does a very poor job of replicating itself and creates mutations from imperfect copies. The flu viruses are like this. Others, like chickenpox, does a great job of creating a replica of itself and thus, take hundreds of years to replicate and therefore much easier to create a vaccine. It's a slower moving target.

There is 2 types of manipulation one is mutation second is combination. The one we are facing is the combination type.
