For the most part the nuances are minor. The edges can be slightly soft depending but from my experience I didn’t find much difference. Some may disagree on this, and while the Leica SL range is designed more so than others to resolve M lenses to their true potential, the lack of using these lenses on leica bodies doesn’t take away from the overall look

Leica has had a few issues but compared to other manufacturers it’s not that bad, but understand some who are hesitant. Voigtlander has really done a great job with this lens and I have no skin in the game. It really impressed me

@@btonelli Tony, I have had sonys and fujis and never experienced an issue. Also have a gorgeous M-A film Leica and the first unit was wrong. Now I've been trying to decide if an M11 is a good idea, but there are some serious problems going on (freezing units, bad electronics), and the same could be said with the new fle. That of course makes me hesitate even if I still consider the brand la creme de la creme.

@@btonelli Used to own almost new M9 with 6 Leica lenses (all purchased together with the M9), and after few years of use, all of them with the exception of Summilux-M 75/1.4 needed some sort of maintenance or repair... loosening lubricants, lots of dust getting inside (but not inside my other lenses from other brands), factory rf calibration issues, then the faulty-rusting sensor, issues reading many SD cards, occasional camera freezes, loose screws falling off... and turnaround times for Leica factory repairs are extremely long. Now I own 7 M-mount lenses, 2 of them Chinese (7A, TTa) and 5 Voigtlanders, all purchased new, previously also owned a few Zeiss ZM lenses, and neither of them has given me any problem... the factory calibration of all those Voigtlanders was perfect, lubricants work perfect after 6 years of continuous use is warm and cold, almost no dust inside, everything holding tight... So I'm very happy I can pick lenses that are much more reliable in my experience... if only I can also pick a non-Leica M-mount rangefinder body with quiet shutter too :). The IQ of the non-Leica lenses is so close that in the real-world I do not see a difference for my work; and actually I prefer character of some non-Leica lenses more (CV 25/4 against Elmarit 24, CV 28/2 against Cron 28 Asph, CV 50/1.5 II against Lux 50 Asph, ZM Planar 50/2 against Cron 50, 7A 75/1.25 against Lux 75/1.4...). So, same as @Fede, I have absolutely no trust in Leica craftsmanship and QC - it's mostly old film Leicas what was reliable, but even those were seriously over-engineered and therefore prone to failures (comparatively to other cameras).. and there were issues always, such as the tragic paint quality on some M6 or M7, can't remember exactly... or the lubricants, or fogging of vintage lenses (comparatively massively worse than Nikkors or Rokkors of the same vintage). I do love Leica because it still gives me the rangefinder experience, I love the brand heritage, but I've never had 1/10th of the Leica-related problems with gear from other manufacturers... and I went through endless Nikons and a few Canons over the past decades, and currently also have a pretty big collection of Fuji X-mount gear (1 problem - SD+battery door spring issue on X-E2 after 5 years of use; 1 lens problem - lots of dust inside XF 18/2 after 6 years of use) and Sony mirrorless (1 problem with loose lens mount on new A7, immediate swap).

This if you want sharper photos that have more modern rendering. The LLL is a great lens but you need to deal with vignetting and softer images at f2

Yes and no. More options is always good, so I certainly encourage that. But I quite like their niche of manual lenses and how well they do it. The lenses are beautiful, they handle fantastically. For me it's the perfect intersection between modern cameras and manual glass with character (and the slower shooting experience that goes with it), while having capacity to render sufficiently for high resolution sensors. So I quite like them the way they are, and therefore own a few of them. If they become AF, then they need to meet other metrics and compete with many more AF lenses already on offer which may be more difficult. But I am just a hobbyist. Maybe for pro's, where speed and output matters more, AF is desired.

Not going to lie, the AF lens experience just isn’t the same. Different tools for different jobs, as someone that shoots for a living, they each have their own use cases. I like where their lenses sit within the overall market.

Auto focus will also raise the price. 👍🏼👍🏼

It’s a bit confusing the way Voigtlander writes it. When you go to Voigtlanders website they say .5 on mirrorless and on the OVF .7. That’s how I understood it. Similar to leica

It’s a good lens for film. Sharp enough wide open but nice fall off and bokeh. Definitely better than the steel rim I feel

The voigtlander is very close to the Zeiss in performance and also much smaller. I would opt for the Voigtlander

Nope, the Distagon will stay as the best 35mm f1.4 you can get for your Leica (optics). But the new Nokton is amazing I had it for a couple of days and I can say that I would pick it over the Distagon (had the lens for three years). Still, I did send it back and only use my beloved 35mm f1.4 Nokton MC Version I because of the unique rendering. :-)

Aluminium black (Type 1 I believe) would match or the silver color if you have a chrome M6

Hi Vasi. The only difference from type 1 and type II is the material used for the body of the lenses. As for the Canon 35mm f1.5 ltm, I didn’t have access to that lens for comparison. The obvious comparison will be the 35 summilux hence that’s why I compared that vs anything else.

Sorry you're wrong here, type 1 and type 2 have the same coating & formula just the barrel is different, light aluminium mat black paint for V1 (matching M11) versus heavier brass build shinny black paint for the V2 matching the 28mm
