I have a little addendum I would like to be made better known Benzie and I think this nuance may help people. The calculation is broken in to two parts. The first part 3 of your sheet is done when you first click the warp button. The code then enters a perpetual do list checking if conditions 1,2 and 4 exist together each server tick this calculation is done on the server the client is just along for the ride doing graphics. Point 1 is actually a vector also and this check goes all the way through the system to the destination grid, where it also checks if the destination has a bubble intercepting its vector within 500km. Which is important because when all the conditions are met. They are locked in to the server. The warp is predetermined, this is why a bubble dropped after you enter warp won’t effect a ship as it is done at the enter warp condition. This is why a scram applied after the warp commits doesn’t actually hold the target. You may well already know this, but it isn’t common knowledge so thought I would try to let more people know your warp is like destiny and predetermined well in the case of a freighter up to a couple of minutes in advance.

I drag mine in a Covetor equipped with a Higgs Anchor. Warp within 10 to asteroid, move forward at 75% speed. 9km past the asteroid pull a u-turn and align back to the station going 75% speed. Hit warp when you are full.

As usual, the thing that gets newbies the most is the actual definition of words that veteran players use... For them, Align is merely a stat in fitting window showing how quickly they will enter warp. For us, Aligning is the act of actively moving towards our destination to enter warp the very instant we hit the button. For them, instawarp is sub 2-3s align times, for us it's the bookmarks we have prepared beforehand. Sadly, in most occasions, even when sharing the words, we often end up talking about completely different things... Great to see you trying to clear things up for some less seasoned players, your efforts are appreciated.

@@captainbenzie I wonder if it would be possible to make a compilation of popular newbie misconceptions. I know the list would likely be long and, being vet myself, I would definitely overlook plenty of possible entries. But as content, perhaps you could make an entire series about the topic?.. Stuff like why HS mining can be a bad career choice, unless you're stubbornly roleplaying. Or the misconception that High Skills and Expensive Fits are required for certain content, when in reality you can often get by with cheap, purpose built ships... Heck, plenty of people don't even realize the most important differences between scrams and disruptors, or even AB versus MWD... Or don't know how to best utilize the weapons systems they have, having no clue about weapon application mechanics... Concepts like sig tanking also often get completely misunderstood, leading them to think that simply having low sig will make them tankier, when they sit still in space... I think it would be nice to see the community actually gathering some tidbits of useful newbie lessons to cover, as there is no way true veterans could accurately ascertain the biggest flaws in new player thinking. Especially when it comes to piloting skills that aren't related to specific ships/modules, but rather one's experience with the game...

While similar in basic concept of using only a second or two of prop to actually bring you up to warp speeds, the application is quite different. In most cases, stationary until last seconds before warp is hardly useful to improve your actual travel times, as even BS have an align time barely over the 10s of prop duration time. Generally not worth the effort, unless coupled with cloak for safety reasons... But there are a few situations where it can and does come in handy. First that immediately comes to mind is activating MWD with 7s remaining of bastion on Marauders. But it's about as much time savings you will get, while warping between the rooms of DED/Mission/Event sites, or some very long warps within large star systems (mostly due to timer). Still, those few seconds per room can add up to minutes, if you're constantly using said marauders. The second one regards roams in hostile space. Being intercepted at a gate, and enemy refusing to point you to jump gate with you, this can be used to juke your pursuers. Gets more effective with larger, slower ships, but can, in theory, be used on frigates for 1s align as well. 3TEARS demonstrated the potential usefulness against unexpecting pursuers quite well in this old video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JzwOxDIJ05s.html&ab_channel=3TEARS But by far my fav example of prop mod greatly improving align times is 500mwd on Orca. That baby will get you into warp within the 10s of it's activation time, which is a drastic improvement over the base align time. Requiring almost the entire prop cycle for acceleration, however, makes it difficult for an Orca to efficiently use it with the cloak trick...

One thing I will do when running a mining mission involving one or more largish asteroids, is first do an align to make sure none of them are nearby and along my intended warp path, because nothing spoils my mood faster than my Venture ineffectually bumping against an asteroid trying to get into warp while being shot at.

great explination... if you where to be moving... would the time to re-align gradually increase the further away from the 5 degrees you are... i.e. 10 degrees been quicker than 40 degrees? I imagine it would... just you mentioned 90 degrees
@captainbenzie
@captainbenzie 6 месяцев назад
Yes, exactly. Imagine you're going at speed, 10° off an object, you just need to turn and minor correct, but if you're going directly away, you'd have to slow down and realign, then speed up again. A brilliant example (that I wish I'd heard before making this video) is it's like ice-skating. From a standstill, it's easy to head off in any direction, but if you're going the wrong way, it takes some heavy adjustment.
@AndyKauffman-ml3og
@AndyKauffman-ml3og 6 месяцев назад
I picked up the pre-aligning habit while WH gas huffing. It's not only about warping faster, but also being "Off the X". I'll warp directly to the anomaly, align to a safe, then cut my speed to less than 30 m/s. This keeps me within huffing range but also means I'm not exactly at 0 if tackle warps in. I just have to click on the Safe I'm aligned to so I don't have to decelerate, turn, & accelerate again.
@goldeneagle256
@goldeneagle256 6 месяцев назад
when we talk aligned in the game, we mean going full speed, so you insta warp when you hit the warp button. what you do by going 30m/s are facing towards, not staying aligned, and wont really make any difference compared to just standing still. your tactic can def work if you put a higs anchor rig on your ship, because that by default slow down your speed by like 90%, meaning full speed of your ship wont even be 30m/sec and you still would be fully aligned and can insta warp out if someone comes inn and try get you. tbf you better off just turn on your micro warp and move to other side of the clouds than the warp inn point because that should give you plenty of time aswell if neut do the same. in that case you just need to look for combat probes
@captainbenzie
@captainbenzie 6 месяцев назад
The warp-in at zero will always drop 0-10km away from centre anyways, and most folks won't warp to zero anyways. You actually risk moving closer to the common warp-ins like 30-60km.

@@captainbenzie@captainbenzie I can verify there is no difference in time required to warp when starting from zero velocity; however, I can see the value some feel from mining while aligned while using Higgs Rigs because this does reduce their time to get into warp, as does pulsing a prop mod when not using Higgs. Good video.

I havnt tested it, but I think your last statement about 5 degrees faster warp and 355 slower warp is wrong. I suspect that+/-89 is actually some warp time improvement, +/-91 is longer warp time (than stationary)
@captainbenzie
@captainbenzie 6 месяцев назад
If you are stationary, your warp time is as shown in the fitting window. The only way to warp faster than the fitting screen shows is to preemptively meet the conditions of 75% max velocity within 5°. If you are moving and wider than 5° from the target, it is mathematically impossible to warp faster as you have to realign, which reduces your speed AND takes time.
@roberthiggins8234
@roberthiggins8234 6 месяцев назад
@@captainbenzie I think you may has misunderstood my exact meaning. I was specifically referring to the last subject you spoke about, orbiting an object. For some of the time you are traveling towards your safe spot, some of the time traveling away from. When comparing warp times with stationary warp times are sometimes going to warp faster (when traveling towards your safe spot). Depending on the actual angle with your safe spot effects the warp time. I did some measurements (large human error) This is my results Mammoth - empty fit My fitting screen says 13.63s to warp My measurements, measured to when the screen says 'warp drive active' stationary ~ 15s Traveling >90% full speed at about 25 degrees from target ~ 11.5s Traveling >90% full speed at about 12.5 degrees from target ~6.5s Aligned full speed ~2s Full speed opposite direction ~22s Full speed 90 degrees to alignment ~22s My only point is that you don't need to be within that 5 degrees to get a warp speed increase, just that you need to be traveling towards the target. Though seems that 45 degrees may be the boarder between a speed increase and decrease
