Thanks for sharing the nutritional value of the Golden rod. I have always discounted that plant for us in Missouri as we typically don't get a nectar flow off that plant. We never seem to get the moisture to support it for nectar.

Thank you, Bob. Your videos are a Sunday morning staple in this house. Always great information. We've had several heavy frosts up here in NE PA but still saw them bringing in some deep yellow pollen yesterday...probably from golden rod they which has still survived. Fortunately, in our area there was a bumper crop of golden rod this year.

Glad to see ya Bob, I always look forward to your videos.😁God knew what was coming and gave ya a feeling.👍 I have always felt our Winter nests are our most important nests. I would love a Fall Nectar Flow. I have been feeding syrup since late July started out open feeding and thin, I had moved into the hives and thicken as we have gotten into Fall. I am getting late season pollen, I think mostly squashes and Fall basilica. I have had real good pollen flow all Season even now, it has surprised me the pollen seems to be coming in late this year up here. Thanks for sharing you time, Blessed Days...

Ugh winter is coming! That reminds me to go do an oxalic acid vap on the bee tree I drug it home about a month ago. It came down in man's yard. My hubby chainsawed it in 2 pieces and we hauled it home. Hopefully they do not fuss over the hole I am about to go drill! Off to handle my winter preps! Your leaves are proly...at least maybe a victim of UV damage this year. It actually seems worse during years of heavy dew. I listened to a lecture about the high UV-C levels this summer while painting fence as my shoulders were getting crispy.

Wind damage, the hurricane is why the leaves are falling off. Every time Nova Scotia gets a hurricane, the leaves disappear even if it's in July. This year, leaves turned color 10 days early, but slow to naturally fall off because we had no amount of fall wind yet this season. Some bees in poor areas like Western Canada live or die by the supplements. In my area this year, the bees are sitting on 6 to 8 frames of stored pollen for spring.

Hi bob, first I’d like to say I really appreciate how willing you are to answer everybody’s questions- I was curious about your thoughts on open feeding- I know you put out all your supers to be cleaned up after the flow so you aren’t too worried about it that time of the year but I was curious why you don’t do it in the fall- I assume mostly because with internal feeding you can tailor the amount to each hives individual needs, and because it can induce robbing? Is there anything else that I might be missing
@bobbinnie9872
@bobbinnie9872 2 дня назад
Yes on what you suggested. Plus I like cleaning up the supers as early as possible because, like open feeding, it's a bit rough on the bees in my opinion. I also like to have that sort of thing done before the mite treatments are finished considering that my bees are probably rubbing up against other bees that may be in the neighborhood.

Trees here in Oklahoma have been doing this as well. Also past 5 or so years we have trees dying suddenly. I have done the 2 quart glass jar feeding on top of a screen inside of an empty super, but I went with the internal feeders for some reason this year, just wanted to try them. I would usually have half the liquid in the jars left every week and had to dump to keep everything fresh and was wasteful. Now will these internal ladder feeders the entire gallon is gone in one week. The increased consumption this fall was very noticeable and far less waste. I wonder if the lids are part of it and they can really get in and fill themselves up on the ladder internal feeders?
@bobbinnie9872

I think the ladders help but they can also cause more dead bees in small colonies so we only use them in decent size colonies.

Hi Bob. What is the main reason why you prefer wintering in two hives? I live in Georgia and they usually spend the winter in single hive. We also have goldenrood and bees do not need winter food.
@bobbinnie9872
@bobbinnie9872 2 дня назад
We overwinter with both doubles and singles with no problems. The doubles generally will have more bees in the spring for nuc and package production, with more frames and comb to work with, and there will be less early starvation and swarming. There are plenty of pros and cons to both. (I need to do a video on that)

I do have a question if u do not mind. when u come across a hive now that is queen less do u still just throw them on top of a queenright hive or do u use newspaper now. sec question does your bees shut down in Nov because of the breed of bee that u have. or does it go by temptures. Thanks, I hope all of u have a Blessed week
@bobbinnie9872
@bobbinnie9872 2 дня назад
Hi Frances. We may choose to simply stack it on top or shake it out on the ground depending on the situation. Perhaps a splash of sugar syrup between but no newspaper. They shut down because of several things. A total lack of incoming pollen (most important), cooler and shorter days and yes the Caucasians are more apt to completely shut down than the Italians although the Italians usually get around to it eventually.

In the pollen substitute is not the microorganisms you find in local pollen I would imagine. All that make s a different in the gut microbiota hence the immune system and the longevity. Interesting that the leaves are falling without changing colour. Isn´t the change of colour due to withdraw of juices and thelike which the trees stores for next spring. Like humans lost a future perspective they got shaken up with the four seasons no longer beeing what they used to be

Thanks for the video today,👍👍 Question. Are there drones in your hives still? Not sure what Oxalic Acid Sublimation you're aiming to run with. If no drones Oxalic Treatment could be started now despite the presence of brood. No drones, less likely to have varroa drift. My Treatment with OA is every 3 days for a minimum of 8 treatments, however with a ventilated floor catching debris and varroa kill, Treatment should continue if varroa is found for all colonies. Treatment takes 30 to 45 seconds, zi worked out a while back one person could treat 450 colonies in a 6 hour day!! Eradicate varroa.... 😂😂

Bob, Thank you for your answer. FYI, the 3 day cycle I chose to use is due to the length of time Oxalic remains active and before levels return to normal. The choices of applicators are either cheap, cumbersome, costly, or overly complicated with temperature controls, plungers, batteries or butane. I went the simple route and have a plumbing copper pipe type, commercially sold and DIY construct costing peanuts and without complication. Simple fast and effective, costing £48 and about £20 DIY. There's a bit of a con going on with Oxalic Acid Sublimation applicators. What low cost applicators do you sell in your shop? Ceredigion Beekeeper 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Hi Bob, thank you for your reply. Perhaps the following info might widen your options. I use a product called a GasVap, basically brazed copper pipe & joints with end caps used to deliver a measured amount. I've put 1250 treatments through one before I needed to replace it. I made a few adaptations to mine, adding a baked bean can as a wind shield, 😂😂 and x4 extension pipes (beehouse) and made more end cap cups one per colony and some. Lastly I used a 28 to 15mm reducer plus a short bit of 15mm pipe to fit a different gas torch. I do a lot with working things out. Butane canister, 100 uses is an estimate where I chalk marked each time I used the Vap. If treatment takes longer, 45 to 60 seconds with the burner going, then gas use increases. 30 to 45 is what I worked on. GasVap £50 ÷ 1250 = 4p for example. Butane £1.50 ÷ 100 = 1.5p per treatment. Burner torch £8 x 2 = £16 ÷ 1250 = 1.3p Approximately 7p per treatment/test. For me it is a no brainer. Using the GasVap (or a DIY unit) to deliver Oxalic Acid sublimation is cheap. I have zero connection to GasVap, I also made my own 😂😂 I am just a beekeeper. Ceredigion Beekeeper 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
