I am so excited to share with you how we celebrate havdalah ceremony in our Orthodox Jewish family home! From the Havdalah prep through the blessings and prayers all the way to cleaning the house after shabbat with our shabbat prep routine! I Am curious: what do you do after shabbat? What does your after shabbat or Saturday night look like? Do you do Havdalah? If so are we doing it the same way? and do you clean your house after shabbat? I would love to know! Sending you much love as usual from my heart and family to yours! Sara Malka

On Saturday evening at 19 o clock- we learn Thora and Chassidut on zoom with our rebbe- so i hurry to make sure, there is no big mess in the background everyone will see :D oh and the left over oily stuff- i give in the toilett and put clorix afterwards to clean the toilett- for me it is the best method. For the pott if its hard to clean i can do soap ,salt and water and heat it up- so it is cleand nearly on its self (soory for my english..hope you understand?)

you asked for favorite cleaners- i found out, that the very best cleaners i can find in small turkish or marrocan shops- they smell much better and they clean much better than "normal german" ones- perhaps in your country ,there are this small shops too- check it, maybe you will be happy with those cleaners as i am ,since i found - they save so much work!

@frum it up With your dishes a prewash before you place your dishes in the dishwasher, that is a good ideal it will keep your dishwasher running another few more years. You don't want food particles messing up your dishwasher, that would not be good, so you keep doing what you're doing that's what i would do. Remember me i am the one who would love to join your family in Shabbat. Many blessing be upon you and your family. 💞 ~Shalom Aleichem!~💞 6.16.2022

Sarah, may I say how valuable your videos are to me? I am not Jewish, but Christian - and your videos inform my faith even more. The Jewish celebrations and traditions illuminate the character and graciousness of God in such a beautiful way. That is something that I think is missing from a lot of non-orthodox religious practices, the daily, weekly, and seasonal habits and rhythms that physically slow us down and remind us of who God is and what He has done for His beloved children ❤️🙏

I am not sure how I ended up on your channel. I’m not Jewish, and I don’t know very much about Judaism beyond the basics we learned in school about all the major world religions. But I’m currently quite sick and there’s something very soothing about watching your family practice religion. And I’m learning a lot, it’s amazing that the internet has given us all the ability to learn so much about other people’s cultures and religions. I hope you have a great day!

I’m Catholic, so maybe things are different by custom - but my husband and three kids do the dishes/clean-up when I cook. My husband says “ the cook rests” - my dad did this for my mom too , as did my father in-law for my mother in-law (maybe it’s a cultural Irish thing, but I’m here for it :). This goes for when he cooks - then I’m on dish detail - our son takes care of the garbage, our two daughters are either on kitchen/dining room cleanup or pots and pans. One thing we do have in common is that dishes get thoroughly rinsed before they go into the dishwasher - I’ve heard it’s unnecessary, but I like spotless dishes!

How wonderful that you, too, rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. I thought I was the only one who did it but it makes common sense to me! I recall, however, listening? hearing? a silly advertisement which stated " if you leave particles on the plates, your detergent will have to work harder" and THAT not only made me laugh but made me HOPE most people wouldn't fall for such a line. How absolutely goofy but that line honestly had me thinking for a few minutes!!!! 😂😂😂

I love learning from you. A lot of what you teach my own family has done for generations. From checking veggies and fruits for bugs. To cleaning the whole kitchen every night after dinner. My family also taught all of us to watch for blood spots in eggs as they are not good to eat. Though I am not sure how it came to us through the generations. I was taught to sweep and mop my floors every day, as a reminder of how the Most High has blessed me and my family. The clean smell of Lysol pine is a favorite in my home. Thank you for all you teach, it brings back so many memories from my childhood and strengthens my validation on how I keep my home. Peace to you and your family.

Easiest way with the crock pot, get Crock-Pot liners. In my country they're known as slow cooker liners. You can cook the sauce in the crock pot by putting the liner in first then do your recipes as usual. Comes out perfect every time. And the cleanup is super easy. You just pick up the bag and put it in the Ziploc and then throw it out easy peasy. I hope this helps you. 🕊️

You can try croc pot liners They were a game-changer for me. I'm not Jewish but Your traditions are some of the most beautiful in the world. You bring two of what I feel are the most important values in life spirituality and family into your home weekly. I grew up Russian Orthodox and had an Orthodox Jewish best friend. Our entire neighborhood was Roman Catholic and the two of us were the outcasts. We made the most of this by me going to Hebrew school with her and her coming to my Sunday school, We learned about each other. We shared out Holidays and special coming of age celebrations together. By college, we had both found different paths. I'm now in my mid-sixties but I still, incorporate some of the traditions I learned in my cooking. Your RU-vid channel brings back wonderful memories.

Thank you very much. I belive videos like this are very good for the intercultural understanding. About the dishwasher: here in Switzerland we do scratch the food from the plates rather than rinse because of environmental aspects (save on water). With the detergent used here it works fine. @@frumitup - If you are uncomfortable leaving a crock pot bag in it, you can clean up the crockpot by adding hot soapy water to it and leave the lid on while you clean everything else. By the time you’re ready, the stuff will easily come off of the ceramic. 😄 P.S. - That bamboo scented cleaning solution you use is amazing!!! I have used it for years. The other three I use regularly is the Windex Antibacterial, Lysol kitchen spray and Clorox bleach spray. They’re must haves in our home.

@@frumitup - The small crock pot is affixed to the Blech? Am I understanding you correctly? Method makes wonderful products. Plus, the scent of that bamboo cleaner is divine!!!! I purchased it years back just to ‘try’ it and have religiously purchased it since. If you do, please be sure to let me know if you enjoy them! The Windex cleaner cuts grease like a boss!!! I absolutely love it for all surfaces. It gets fingerprints and smudges off practically everything. I rate it right up there with the Pledge all-surface cleaner (another of my ‘must haves’). I’m a bit of a germaphobe, obviously. 😂 The advantage of the windex is the way it performs on glass. If you’re dealing with a glass cooktop, it’s a great way to remove streaks and sanitize after cleaning it with the regular scrub cleaner recommended for it. The Clorox cleaner is in two forms, one is kitchen and the other bath. I buy both. It helps to whiten any stains you may have on porcelain/enamel, and it works brilliantly if you have any laminated surfaces (as I do). Stains be gone! lol The Lysol is a great work horse. It is what I use for everything I can’t use the Clorox on (because, well… BLEACH. hahaha). It doesn’t bleach everything out, but it sanitizes wonderfully. Like all sanitizing sprays, if you want it completely disinfected, it must remain moist 10 minutes. Lysol is ideal for most surfaces as well. I have ‘rules’ for everything, but I have a perfect use for each product and all of them are on regular rotation for their individual ‘strengths’ when it comes to cleaning. Oh, and to answer the question in the video about when I do my cleaning? Honestly, it totally depends. I have an autoimmune disorder. I prefer to clean up following Havdalah, but I am not always physically up to it; so it sometimes has to wait until the following morning for me to get to it. 😉

I love seeing the families walking to the temple on Fridays! 💜 sadly the Jewish school still has to have armed police guards but on the other hand, the kids are protected 24/7. (don’t ask my mother in law, what happens if you try to pick clover through the fence… 😳) One question, how do you use your dishwasher when separating milk and meat? Is it relevant?

Thank you so much for doing videos like this! I’m wanting to convert to Orthodox Judaism, and it gets very overwhelming not understanding all the things to do, how to do it, the meaning behind it, etc. So watching your videos walk through the whole process and what it is about/why is so interesting and helpful! Please keep doing videos like these!! Also, as far as cleaners go, I highly recommend Better Life brand! Their “Whatever Spray” is great, but the entire line is awesome as well. It’s an entire household cleaning brand, it’s all plant based, and was created by two chemists who were worried when they would see their babies/toddlers out toys in their mouths, and was concerned about the chemicals they would ingest because of it. So that inspired their line. :) Plus they did a live, on air test, where they took a name brand cleaner and their cleaner. They took raw chicken and rubbed it all over a tile. Then they scanned the bacteria (anything over 200 I believe is considered unsafe.) The name brand was waaaay over 200. Better Life was at 60. Shavua tov!

I love that I'm seeing this come across my recommended on RU-vid. I may not be Jewish, but seeing people keep to traditions that give their lives happiness and meaning is amazing! Also, for cleaning slow cookers, they do have disposable liners you can get for them! I don't quite know if they are kosher friendly (I've never needed to check before, to be honest), but you just put them in the slow cooker before the food and you can just remove and toss when you are done! I have had a little bit of liquid in the slow cooker sometimes even with the liner, but it does help get most of the waste out without a lot of work to clean it.

Charles, thank you for sharing about your grandmother and her traditions. I am not Jewish although have great respect for your religion and culture, which is why I was watching this RU-vid. But, I would like to encourage you to do your family history and genealogy so that you can go back as far as possible to trace your family tree and know of your ancestors. I believe that it honors them just as doing the Shabbat and Havdalah ceremonies honors your religion and God and helps you have a good life. Doing your ancestry a blessing or it would not be so often in the Holy Books, and is so easy now and there are many people to help you. I live by this: "Suddenly, all of my ancestors are behind me. "Be still" they say. "Watch and listen." "You are the result of the love of thousands." Again, thank you for sharing the tender memories you have of your grandmother, and thank you to Sara Malka for sharing your wonderful Orthodox life with everyone, even those not of your faith. You have blessed me. Shalom. Deborah

With the dishwasher tablets available now, there is no need to rinse off your dishes prior to washing them in your dishwasher. Most manufacturers of dishwashers will tell you to conserve water and just scrape off the scraps and pop the dishes straight in. My dishes come out really clean, as long as the dishwasher isn’t overloaded. Please keep up the fantastic RU-vid content, its awesome. Moedim lSimha 😊

Heads up, dishwasher soap is made to eat food pieces. If you wash all the food off, it’s still going to eat something, and that something will be the mechanical parts of your dishwasher. That’s what I’ve been taught :)

You mentioned not liking to clean the crock pot. When I use the crock pot, I use a disposable lining that I can just pull out of the crock pot and throw away. It makes cleaning the crock pot so much easier. I don’t know if you can use that or not. And you are not the only one who pre-rinses their dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. My husband and my step-mother do that, as well.

There are so many customs re Shabbos and Havdallah. My family weren't religious growing up so I learnt from my Rabbi and congregation when I became baal tchuvah long time ago. Then when we moved and I worked at this place, the nearby shul had many Sephardim so I learned customs that we still do today. Looking at the nails during blessing with the candle, but we put drop of wine on the forehead and the back of the neck. We use cloves. My daughter in law is Moroccan so she and my son sing together a beautiful song right when the candle is first lit and then the regular prayers. I don't have a dish washer so I use a scrubby thing or my hand to wash dishes in cold water during Shabbos. I love your videos. Much love. 😍

I love seeing how other people handle these celebrations, I love my crockpot, but I hate cleaning it, especially at the end of the day. I started using crock pot bags, you put them in before you start cooking, and you can tie a knot in it at the end and dispose of it; they don't keep the crock pot 100% clean, but generally, it is a quick wipedown and no stuck-on gunk!

Hello Sara. I am not sure how I came upon your channel, but I am finding it very interesting. I have a hint for you on cleaning your crock pots. My mother taught me to put a pod for the dishwasher with the water up to the recomended level, and put it on hi for 1 to 2 hours. Turn it off, and when it has cooled off teansfer the insert to the kitchen sink. Use you cleaning cloth to clean out the top and upper edges, and light scruber for anything still stuck on. Drain in the sink, and rinse with clean warm or hot water if you missed anything. Easy, peasy. You let the crockpot do most of the work.😊
