AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on RU-vid are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

Google Difference Between Access Point and Router. Some of the things you are referring to are an Access Point. A router takes a incoming signal and creates a network and manages the network traffic. The router manages incoming traffic from a Access Point. Good to know the difference between the two helps you in trouble shooting your network. Glad you guys are out there keeping us informed. 👌😎

Some tips: 1. Download a Wi-Fi analyzer app to test Wi-Fi signal strength. It's better than using the Wi-Fi bars on the phone. 2. A directional antenna attached to the booster can work much better than an omni-directional antenna. You turn it until you get the strongest signal. 3. If you have non-metal RV, you must maintain a certain amount of separation between the roof antenna and the inside booster antenna. If they are too close you get a feedback loop. This is a similar concept to the whistle feedback from microphones the are too close to speakers. 4. WeBoost has a booster that is a cradle that you place your phone in. It doesn't broadcast cellular inside the RV so it will not feedback through the roof antenna. If you only want to boost hotspot data, this is a cheaper solution. 5. Hotspot data is usually limited and can be expensive. Video uses it up fast. It is better to save it for PC use. 6. You can watch NetFlix, Prime, RU-vid, and other videos using your phone's unlimited data by mirroring your smartphone screen onto your TV screen. 7. If possible, set your default video quality to a lower level. It uses much less data and will not stop to buffer as much.

Thanks for another great video. Got to see the comet when we were at our park model rv in central Oregon, on July 17. It was magnificent! When you were pulling in, I thought back to a camping trip years ago, we had a Chalet A-frame trailer, pulling into a narrow spot, and the guy across the driveway had his truck parked partially in the road, which made it tighter. So, I just played a total newbie, going back and forth until he moved his truck... and then pulled in nicely. Amazing to see the ferry guys backing rigs onto the ship. Loved the relaxing ending to the video.

Great video as usual guys. A cheaper option that may work for you if you use an actual hotspot device is a MIMO antenna that will stick to your window with suction cups & costs about forty bucks. It has two antenna leads that plug into the hotspot which usually has two antenna ports. Too bad phones don't have external antenna inputs. Look for this thing on Amazon "Netgear 6000450 MIMO Antenna with 2 TS-9 Connectors" One other thing to note is that boosters will amplify and also generate some noise so the extra bars may be from that instead of signal. A better test is to run "Speedtest" and see if you get better data rates with or without the booster.

I've been taking road trips during the week of the 6 major holidays. I traveled with a work phone on the Verizon network and a personal phone on the AT&T or T-Mobile network. I love visiting national and state parks. 99% of the time Verizon and AT&T had 1 bar or no service. When approaching retirement, I switched my personal phone to T-Mobile and found that it had better signal strength than Verizon in many parks. Thanks for the tip on cellular boosters. I tried one at my house 15 years ago when I had Sprint for my personal phone and it didn't help at all. I think the problem was the flat directional antenna. But technology has improved a lot in the past 15 years as that was my job for over 30 years.

One thing many campers don't realize is that our devices, laptops, iPads, etc., do not have antennas that are designed to TRANSMIT the WiFi signal BACK to the park antenna. They are designed to transmit a signal about 30-35' in your house to your WiFi router. So while you may have good signal from a WiFi antenna in a campground your laptop may not be communicating back very well due to its tiny antenna. By adding a WiFi receiver/transmitter antenna to your rig you can gain two key advantages. First, the right antenna will let you pick up a campground WiFi anywhere in the park. Second, it will boost your device's antenna signal so that what you send out to the internet actually gets there, i.e., type in a web address in your browser, if it sits and spins it may simply be because the campground WiFI just didn't' get your transmission back. Ubiquiti NanoStation loco M2 is a great solution for this problem. Check out David Bott's RU-vid channel for a thorough explanation of the Nano Station and how to set it up. We have been in plenty of campgrounds hearing campers complaining about the internet while we are having zero issues. Just be aware, even if you have the antenna and can send/receive well the campground antenna you may still have slow internet service because the internet pipe to the campground is too small to serve the bandwidth needs of all the campers. At least if you have the antenna you cut out one of the problems in the chain of devices and signals. By the way you can sit in the parking lot at McDonald's, Starbucks, etc., and pick up their signal sitting in your rig with the Nano Station antenna - no need to even sit down inside, nice bonus during Covid.

Just so you guys know, 5G E is actually just 4G given a fancy name, a marketing ploy by AT&T. Also, of course the booster will give 4G to a 5G system, they're inherently backwards-compatable. When 6G comes out, 5G will work on all 6G phones, boosted or not. 3G also works on 4G phones.

Also, by setting your phone next to the booster you may be overdriving the wireless being transmitted. Signals that are too hot will create as much packet loss as ones that are too low. Get a bandwidth tester and try it right next to it, and 5-10 feet away and see where you get better speeds.

We had screaming fast internet at Estes Park KOA this summer. Your Faraday cage is GREAT protection in a lightening storm. Can't have everything! We spent 10 weeks in our A-Frame this summer. We used a car version of the WeBoost with Verizon on phones and hotspot. My phone worked best of all. The JetPack next best. My son's phone least well. We generally upgraded 4G signals from 1 bar to 3 or 2 bars to 4 bars. We don't have a 5G anything. Even after we hit the throttle-data-limit my phone was the fastest of all with the booster. We also saw greatly improved signal when we mounted our antenna onto a 24 foot telescoping pole. So I will dump the Jetpack hotspot. And buy a better phone for my son for next summer.

This question is BY FAR the most asked question in the RV world. The problem is that it is not a simple answer and it's very frustrating for so many especially those who are technically challenged. Heck, I work in I.T. and this topic still pisses me off cuz of all the options, restrictions, configs, etc. This really boils down to the phone companies. It's total BS that here in the U.S., we are lacking cellular coverage in ALOT of the country. There's simply no excuse. Secondly, they are greedy selfish bastards and have us wrapped around their fingers. Again, there is no excuse for any of them to not offer unlimited data for EVERYONE ALL THE TIME. This is a hot topic at this very moment due to covid and schools not opening. How many underprivileged areas are lacking internet service and now they can't attend virtual school. This is a real issue. I've seen some comments about StarLink and I truly hope this solves the problem. Anyways, I always enjoy your vids and get a laugh all the time. Peace!

Thanks Har-V, you make some great points and I also am surprised at how long it has taken to get more complete cellular coverage in the United States. Pssst Sean there is only one Internet, thus it is singular. Another option folk might want to consider is the WEBoost or another directional antenna. You have to aim it every time you set up but it will give you a stronger signal than the omni directional antenna that comes with most cell boosters. There's trade offs in every thing. More signal for more hassle. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

One thing to note about cellphone boosters: I'm not sure what the rules are in the US, but here in Canada, if you get caught with a booster that is improperly installed (or not allowed by your carrier), the provider has the legal right to show up and confiscate the booster. This is due to the desire to provide a certain level of coverage in the area for as many users as possible. Improperly installed boosters often make the service worse for others in the area. Always contact your provider to see if boosters are allowed, what frequencies they use, and what brand of booster is officially supported. Also, don't buy the cheap ones as many do not support the LTE network; no LTE support means no VoLTE for better voice calls and coverage.

Wow! That's crazy! We've never heard anything about this before. Guess we'll be doing some research before venturing north of the border. Thanks for telling us!

@@kristymichael the problem is usually with the cheaper ones found at Wal-Mart, etc as they usually have not been certified by any Canadian standards group; they usually have problems staying tuned to the proper cellular frequency. Yours should be okay as it's a reputable brand. Rarely do they get confiscated, most users from what I hear oblige and uninstall them.

We were in an RV park near a Wifi booster but could only get signal by the entrance door of our unit because the rest of the RV's direct line of sight to the booster was blocked by a 4 x 4 sign support a few feet from the booster.

Very timely. WE've run into this with Verizon, which is really all in Western Rural Iowa. Some of the State Parks it just dies. Goes from 4 o 1 bar of service and makes it hard to do work for LeAn and streaming is almost impossible. I've gone to our Verizon Store here and nothing. They say it's not worth it. Our real problem is our Faraday cage which is our Aluminum Frame in the Laminated sides, Top and bottom of our rig. They do kill it. I have the same issues with Shortwave Radio inside as well. I'm going to look into these Items, we've talked a lot about this. Thanks guys this was great.

You can also go to your cellular carrier's website and see what the coverage is like.

Cellular signal does Not penetrate thru metal, it reflects. The cellular signal has a hard time penetrating glass. The signal you see in your Airstream is coming thru your windows. You would benefit from a cell booster or wifi booster for your internet especially. Great video!

On a different note, have you seen the latest MavicAir 2 update? Digital zoom, better sports mode gimbal control and more. This little drone is taking over the lead of the entire Mavic line. Still wont replace the top line big drones but starting to close in on them!

WiFi ???... "Sometimes I wonder Wi" (why) by Jason Aldean. "Wi dont you love me".... (why) by Hank Williams. "Wi... by Enigma - Relaxing Music - "Why!" Yes indeed everybody's asking Wi? Why isn't the WiFi signal strong enough at this campin' site?! Thanx to youz guys, we now know Wi. I use free WiFi at a private campground on CapeCod, MA, finding the signal weak, but I'm glad it's free. A city owned campground on the North Shore, North of Boston, that I often visit too has free WiFi. The signal is great, well it's quite good until they shut the lites off at evening 10:00pm. By then they think everybody has rolled up the awning, put out the campfire & turned in for the evening. To this I often ask myself Wi?Oh, I'm not complaining, just doodling on the humor of it all. You see, I'm retired & don't run a business out of my RV like you full-timers have to. I go campin' for the sheer joy of fresh air, water at the lake or ocean, and green trees around me. I do feel bad though for all the folks who are struggling to pay bills, keep a job, raise a family, & get a decent nights sleep., maybe even get a week or two away in a tent or trailer every year. Hey, keep thoze vids coming. Good stuff you bring to the table. CamperFrank with my AS 23 footer, 'The Silver Conestoga Wagon'. A lot of thinkin' went into naming my rig, so don't laugh. :>} .

I've been using cellular data connection to a laptop since the early 2000's when I had a USB cable. Since cellular carriers have included hotspots on phone and tablets, I've found that you have to have a minimum of 3 bars of signal strength to get decent performance. With the work you do, I would recommend not trying to do it with less than 3 bars otherwise it will take all day to upload your files.

Will I be extremely foolish if I go to Glacier National Forest from GA. in late September, thinking I'm going stay in a tent? I'm only asking you because I know you are well aware of that area. OK now I can finish watching this video. Thank you!!

Sounds like fun! The issues I see are weather (it may be snowing out there) and Covid mess. Go! You will have a lot of flexibility with a tent.

We had snow in August at our campground just outside the park, so there are no guarantees. But don't let that stop you from going.
