How We Got SCAMMED out of a $4,500 Engine From AutoZone 

Why crate motors JD? For motor upgrade or motor repair? Why didn't you fix Mom's motor? If building motors isn't you thing, maybe it's time to get the hands dirty and the mind working on such tasks. Think of all the fun involved, and the knowledge gained? Hell, you have the garage for it and you seem to be capable! In most cases, the machine shop cost and the replacement components/gasket set will not be $4500. I know you would throw in the labor... Just a simple question, is that a garage/shop or is it a warehouse to store cars? Come on JD, let's get some stuff torn apart, rebuilt and mechanic kind of things happening in that awesome steel building.

No. Auto zone didn't scam her but they did give her money to the wrong person. And it doesn't matter if he was with her throughout the transactions. If you take someone to the bank with you once a week to withdraw some money you wouldn't want the bank letting them take money out of your account would you?

I can guarantee that the reason it was returned is because she came there multiple times with him and they were in a relationship the guys at Autozone remember customers it ain’t a lot of us so we remember regulars and big purchases besides if they have the receipt all we have to do is scan it but something is not right about this story because 1 I know she didn’t pay 4500 cash plus core and I promise we will never have enough cash in the store to do a return that big in cash 😂somebody is lying credit cards go back automatically debit you absolutely have to have the same card you paid with so

That was my first assumption but I haven't actually delt with that and thought it sounded bad like maybe bearings but ya if it's the lifters if you can do the work you could fix it for like under $1000 you maybe able to get like a truck Norris cam for not.much more it will need a tune but I think it was going to need some tune regardless

@@james10739 when the lifters go on one of these it’s as loud or louder than a bearing.

The dod lifter issue is common, but I have replaced them because they were driven because of the oil pressure issue as well.

Wrong autozone has zero liability. They refund the money to whoever shows up with the receipt and merchandise. Autozone isn’t responsible for her giving the receipts to someone else, that’s all on her. You can’t always find someone to sue for your own mistakes.

@@Iwishitwas-hl9wj I disagree. Why do they ask me and everyone else for photo ID when a person either picks up a part or returns a part for a refund. Since they know me there I usually don't get carded but three out of five times. It's on the merchant to make her whole.

Now no receipt and they may require ID. Autozone owes her nothing, autozone can’t be held responsible otherwise why doesn’t she get the police to arrest someone at autozone for possession of stolen property or purchasing stolen property since they essential bought it off him? Watch the whole video and you’ll find nowhere of them saying it was AutoZone’s fault. The title simply and accurately says they were “scammed” out of an “AutoZone engine”, period.

@@waynebollentin989 sir the original word “from” a prepositional clarification placating the previous word before it, which would be “$4,500 engine”. Simply signifying only being scammed out of a $4.5k engine (that happens to be from AutoZone), and not scammed by AutoZone itself.

Will void the warranty if torn apart.Most engine reman companies do not allow teardowns doing the checks.I know Jasper is this way whom sells the afm delete 5.3 reman engines as an option.Comes with a tuner as well

@@Toolaholic7 I done several delete myself on engines with more than 160xxx miles and still today they are running excellent . There easily capable of lasting 400-500xxx miles so I think it's worth doing the DOD delete but if you got the money I'd agree you can't go wrong with Jasper .

If it was a lifter it would be ticking, if anything the cam might have a flat lobe if the valves aren't opening.

Autozone doesn’t confirm the name on the receipt, no company I have ever dealt with does. If she paid cash that’s what will be refunded to anyone who shows up with the merchandise and the receipt. Autozone has zero liability, they have no control over what she does with the receipt. Auto zone also will never back her up in court with out a subpoena.

@@BigCountry1 My Dad & Grandfather were attorneys bro... They violated their own refund policy(s). Case, in court, is winnable in this instance. It was HER engine & SHE paid for it. HE "illegally" got a refund. Try again. They dropped the ball on a large purchase. All about liability. In this particular case? They are liable to HER as the purchase origin, not the guy.

The rest is left to the discretion of the store. Do you know how many pissed off customers you would have if only the original purchaser could return an item? Furthermore, it is a “policy” not a contract. A policy is not binding. The only way a lawyer would take this civil manner is to go after the creep boyfriend.

That's the "policy" here in Cleveland. You can't get a return UNLESS you were the purchaser, receipt or not. Now, cash/retail sales? That's anything goes. Anywhere in the garbage, dig out a cash receipt, even at Walmart, and you can return just about anything, at any time. NOW... If your dumb enough to leave any copy of an engine purchase ($4k) Let alone the store manager is dumb enough to have ACCESS to that 4 thousand IN CASH, well, that's just all around stupid. That's what a debit card is for... Use it and they have no choice but to "reverse" that charge BACK to that original card. Cash was a mistake BY ALL... BUT, the fact that they gave a full refund on an engine already on order, is shady as hell. It was already processed and was "on the way" as soon as they hit enter and they paid for it. This screams of an "inside" job. Oh, by the way. I got pictures of AZ staff, in the parking lot, doing brake jobs with their own parts. Double dipped job perks or illegal side hustle? Hmmm... 😳 Most parts counter salespeople are morons. They don't know CRAP about cars at all, let alone "proper" business practices. They can BARELY get the parts correct, because they don't ask the right questions, like engine size or model of vehicle, but they tend to ignore the noted Parts section that CLEARLY states 4x4 or AWD, which is very important to doing the job correctly THE FIRST TRIP with parts and not having their parts delivery guy return (2 or 3 times) to get a simple brake job done. Moral of this story: use debit card, keep receipt and use O'Reilly's auto parts. 😎👍 So you Don't get a 🥒 in your bum. 😱

Your probly right that it is a lifter failure but along with the lifter failure, you’ve also got a wiped cam and along with a lifter failure and a wiped cam, you’ve now also got tons of metal in the oil and thru out the bearings and everything. This will require a complete rebuild with a DoD delete kit, new cam, lifters, and all new bearings. This is where the problem lies! The lead time on getting a cam and lifters right now is almost 6 months unless you want a set that’s gonna fail within the first 2,500 miles due to lack of metal hardness on the lifters. Everyone with an LS engine, especially with the DoD function, is having trouble with lifter failure. It was probably the best repair to just get a new long block which will come with a complete warranty since Bob did the install so if there is another failure, she won’t have to pay for another rebuild or whatever. This was the wise repair here but you are absolutely correct in everything you said above tho. It’s just because of lack of good quality parts availability right now is why I disagree on the repair but if good parts were available currently, then you would be spot on my friend!! I agree bob got a great engine for free you can bet he swapped it out for the other engine. Lol
