Where i live, parents tend to give their children a lot of toys to the extend that kids stop appreciating them and cannot enjoy playing with them. It is quite refreshing to see videos and parenting like yours. 🙂

For her dishes I would say if you’re worried about the glass try to maybe find wooden things, there’s nothing wrong with plastic but I remember during Montessori training most of my professors had disdain for materials that were not made of natural products, since plastic is “fake” it’s better to give children real things and even if they break something it’s ok it’s a part of life

Most of these setups are how ALL toddlers should be raised! I remember as a 3 y/o having the fake kitchen and household toys which made me super aware of how things work long before entering pre school and being aware of what my parents do around the house. Plus the toys are definitely good for learning. I still remember my first jigsaw puzzles and baby dolls. Talking to kids like adults is definitely important. I grew up around adults my primary years (I'm the oldest grandchild on both sides) so it made a huge difference in my vocabulary and speech. Plus i always had the desire to be independent. You're doing a great job. I try to send productive items and toys to my out of state nephew every six months (he's 28 months now) so i hope my half sister utilizes them with him. 😊

I love this video! I feel like your "version" of Montessori is more realistic. A lot of the blogs I see have very plain and simple toys. I can't believe she is already 18 months!
@lifeonmars478

It looks plain and simple. But that’s because the focus is on the skills used. Montessori usually don’t use flashy obvious toys. The toys are aimed at extending cognitive understanding

I like that your Mntessori style is integrated within the whole family life and your daughter is part of it rather than having everything hers separated (kitchen, toilet, etc) as if you have a home within the home. When did she start sitting on her chair?

And I turned some of my other toys into these kinds of activities. We have shopkins, for example, for the older kids. The little ones love nothing more than stacking the shopkins inside old popsicle maker parts (into the part that would hold the liquid for freezing). I’ve donated the other parts of the popsicle maker but kept a few holders for this purpose, and the keep going back to it. Also they love to put anything into little handbags so we have a box of toy handbags we’ve collected over the 12 yrs I’ve had kids, and we make use of everything in those ways. My husband is always asking me why I’m keeping egg cartons etc and I do so they can out shopkins in the segments also! Never ending joy.

Love what you are doing. I have my daughter's little kitchen in my kitchen and I love it. She cooks while I cook. We have the same broom set. I have put away the duster and mop, because she always seemed to find the mess I just spilled before I could get to it; so just the brush, broom and dust pan hang on ours right now. I also keep it in the kitchen, because I can ask her to sweep while I'm cooking as well. All handy for occupying her time while I'm busy cooking at the stove. She feels so helpful and grown up being able to help momma. For dishes, I found a few Corelle plates and bowls in a fun pattern at the thrift store that I have been using for her this past year (she is 2 1/2 now). They work really well and were super cheap at the thrift store.

Also the water dispenser at the sink is a smart idea too just thinking how to build the understanding that it isn't for play like washing her cooking things or wet play. Maybe when she needs water for her waterpainting? Im instantly always thinking if the things that could go wrong with EVYRTHING i imagine seting up in my own house as soon as she can walk.

I really like Montessori & also your videos, though I think it’s a little early for kids to start counting when you still articulate their age in months. Offering learning opportunities is great, but a lot of the kids I work with are super clever, but lack social skills since the focus has always been „getting better“ rather than letting kids be kids and giving them time to interact with others... not meaning to offend with this comment ☺️
@shevegan4302
@shevegan4302 4 года назад
caro vogel I agree with this, in this era I feel like the focus should be play time outside, peer interaction and let them use their imagination. They can learn school stuff later.
@kittycotten
@kittycotten 4 года назад
caro vogel not trying to raise a baby genius here. She just started counting one day. I think she picked it up from songs and books we read or the kids at her daycare. But she likes saying the numbers and we point and count. She likes it and I like to follow her lead in what she’s interested in learning and doing instead of trying to push activities onto her. Another part of Montessori is following their interests and not interrupting their activity. She spends lots of time with other kiddos and doing activities outside of the montessori stuff I showed like being outside and playtime with others!

One of the things I love about Montessori is letting the child go at playing and not interrupting them. I find my mother constantly tried to direct m6 play, but an aunt, whom I spent a lot of time with as a child, was a Montessori kindy teacher and she just lived for us playing and we just went on all day. It saddens me when parents are always trying to direct their kids play and tell them what to draw and how to do th8ngs. I’ve never even told m6 kids how to play an iPad game. They work everything out! It’s great xxx and nothing like the plastics drawer in our kitchen to enthrall the kids fir ages. I’ve wasted so much m9ney on other toys over the yrs,
