Such a great channel... Suddenly you appeared on my wall.. just with one video.. i subscribed instantly....and watched almost the entire content of yours.. Hi from your neighbouring country, Malaysia. My wife is batak nese...
Me too after one video l subscribed and watched all the remaining videos A little advice for you, after you install your Internet, and probably save little more please turn your place to a resort center so I can visit there
I am loving watching your videos!!My husband and I bought some property in Mexico 1n 1999 next to a village that just got power. We were in paradise for 20 years, with a view that went for miles each way up the beach. We started living quite rustically and then built beautiful little house in the old tradition of the area, coconuts and adobe.. Llife was bliss. In time with more technology, paved roads, etcetera the tourists came and came and came. Condos were built, one three stories right next door, peace was replaced by the sounds of construction. Progress? my husband passed 3 years ago, I am 80 and I am selling our property for a dream price. I have good friends there who rlet me stay I their beautiful home whenever I want to visit. it does my heart good to see there are still places where this life is possible.
Alternative living brought me to your channel.. and I just subscribed immediately.. you brought back a lot of childhood memories… when I was younger I didn’t know how lucky I was.. now in a big city in France I long for this life everyday.. much love from France 🇫🇷❤️🙏
starlink from elon musk already here in indonesia, now u can have high speed internet wherever you want. so happy for you guys finally have electricity.
We all love our internet Starlink, no doubt. But we also need to keep in mind that non native eMF radiation is Poison to humans. Please only turn it on during the times you need and off at night for sure
I really love your channel, very interesting. Now that you have solar power, can you have TV or radio? I wonder too, do you have mails? I just wonder, I'm battling these junk mails everyday. I just love it too when you just go to the jungle and get mangoes for free and bamboos for your future cooking container.
Congrats to both you from i and my wife, one island to another lol, there is always a price to pay for paradise and we would have it no other way. 👊🌴🇧🇷Rob & Aless.
It is a very nice little system. You think they would be using all in one DEYE inverters for that installation, though. DEYE can handle 100% humidity, has built-in MPPT controllers and is bug proof. The 5kw unit is also Air Cooled. When that inverter goes pop, have a look at the DEYE. Subscribed. I think this will be an interesting video. It's been a year since we changed our old Lead acid batteries out for LFP. Just uploaded our one-year review. (Off-Grid Success: After 1 Year. Deye Inverter & Green Bank Batteries. (27)) Crazy how fast time goes by. Please keep us updated on your system as you progress and grow.
Hi Marjolein and An! I just recently found your youtube channel and I LOVE IT! I am living in Germany, having a bit of hard times these days. So I enjoy your videos even more! And: Watching you enjoying your coffee so much ispired me to have my "special coffee time" each day too! Thank you so much for everything your share with us. Wishing you all the best for all your dreams coming true!
Ooh happy to here that our videos make you feel a little better and inspire you to take some small moments to yourself. Thank you fir watching and leaving such a nice comment 🙏🏼🫶🏼
Solar power is great but man the only thing that drives me away from it is. 1. you need to mount it on the roof of your house depending on to avoid theft, and then it becomes a chore to clean them that high unless it would only be water cleaned via hose. 2. Like you mentioned, solar is most of the time in a none controlled environment, which means you're completely depending on tthe weather. I do like the idea of using the generator to charge the battery, this is something I was trying to look more into. Combining the gas generator with HHO+ Battery seems good for me, since I will be using water to power the gas generator. I thank you for the video, I cannot tell you how much I like these kinds of video and break down. I noticed you didn't mention how long it would take to pay these off in the video.
No need to worry about cloudy days, I live in Sweden and people use solar panels here... keep in mind our winters are like 6 months long with barely any sun :P a few days here and there with cloudy days will be fine :D Great setup!
*Kindly maintain the periodic cleaning of your panels, no problem of close cabinet, I believe the system is transformer less so no much heat generation, the only thing is it heat up during heavy load using, you can add some more panels and use the smart air conditioner, I’m having solar system almost 1.5 time more than you and I’musing aircon without any issue, you can add one alarm in the cabinet for high high temperature which will not cost you much.* I’m wondering why you use inverter and charger separate, why not one unit of 5 or 6 kva off-grid Solar inverter (Grid and solar input same time and load output. Anyways congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 could you please reveal the total cost and also in details
I apologize if you’ve already answered this but may I ask how you earn your main income? I find it fascinating how people across the world find revenue streams other than the typical 9 to 5…
how much you paid for the whole system ?.....as in indonesia the salarys are not that high, the installation shouldn`t be expensive.....but also the transportation to the island....
New subscriber here. Absolutely love your new home! The life you two have created is amazing!!! Watched video on Exploring alternative lifestyles and immediately subscribed. Best wishes to you both ❤
I’ve been watching some videos and I notice you lock your doors - is this an old habit from Belgium? Do you feel unsafe there? I don’t even lock my doors and we live in a relatively big town
I feel sooooo deeply connected with you both and your paradise island off grid living!! 🌀🙏💗🌿☀️ Just found your channel, because I look for some infos about off grid islands in Indonesia 😊 I was on Bali, Sumbawa, Lombok, Gili and Flores 25 years ago. Long time ago... I loved to live there, but I was scare 🙈 Well at the end I went to Canary Island and the last 10 years I spend my time in Vanlife first without no electricity and the last 4 years with 300W. But I dont have a frigerator or other big comfort. Your life remember me, on all the smal island I was without elecricity but your island is really especial and sooo beautyful. A real juwel. Yes please take care about rich investors, as they buy a lot in Indonesia at the moment! I wish you the best for the next steps in and out of the house and maybe one day we see us 😍
I think solar panels should charge little in also cloudy day. Maybe you can add more battery in some time it can store more and you can use for longer period or more things?

Alternative living sent me over & i had to say hello to you both, what a fantastic life you both have ❤️ from a very cold & sleepy hamlet of England 🏴can’t wait to follow your journey xx🧡🦊
Exploring Alternatives has brought me to your channel. I just wanted to say hello. I am now browsing through your videos. 😊 My compliments on your shooting and editing, definitely belongs to the better work out there. Your house is beautiful, respect for the skilled carpentry and construction work! Looking forward to the next peeks into your lives. All the best. 🙏
I am truly in love with your stories and videos....please give us an idea as to how much is the solar package and installation, please...thankkk youu so much
0:11 great progress guys, perhaps to increase the efficiency of cooling down your drink, don’t store it in the fridge using your insulated water bottle and definitely not with the lid on. You want to cool down the liquid as efficiently as possible in the shortest amount of time.
You have such a fantastic positive energy! I am now based in India, but would be interested to visit in the coming months. Is that at all possible or you rather not? Julie, 43 years old, humanitarian worker (worked all over the world), French. But expat for 20 years ;) Thanks for the wonderful videos and bests to all humans and furry friends!
Heya I'm patiently waiting for the next video. It's been a long 18 days. Oh well i'll keep tapping my feet 😂 & try not to bite my nails. Did i say patiently. I'm getting a bit restless waiting for another video. Much love from South Africa 🌍💌🌟🌟👍
Hi guys, I recently found your channel and have watched all the videos you have online. It’s very nice, and I really enjoy your content. I’ve noticed there are some topics you repeat over time, so I thought I’d send you a message with some video ideas. It would be great to see exactly where you are on the map and where your house is. I’ve been trying to figure that out, and my best guess is that you are on Masokut Island, but I’m not sure I have it right. One critique I have is that if you have a company, you don’t really introduce the people. Maybe they’re shy and don’t want to be on camera, which I can understand, but it’s definitely interesting to meet someone and at least see the people that you are showing in the video properly. You tend to go over things very quickly in the beginning. I think you’ve gotten better at it over time, though. Anyway, here are some video ideas: • A tour of the island or the different islands, including the different resorts, and your thoughts about them. • Exploring other islands and showing how different people live there. • More cooking videos. I know you share a lot of your cooking, but perhaps there could be more of it, including some Western or equivalent meals that people can try at home. • Tell a little bit about what it took to become a citizen and how people can adopt this lifestyle. • Since you have that second house now, you could invite people to stay for a week or a few days to experience your lifestyle, and they could pay you for the accommodations, even if it’s just a few dollars. • Perhaps you could create a Patreon account and get some people to sponsor it. • As a future project, you could show how people traditionally made canoes, restoring some of the history and craftsmanship of the area. • It would be interesting to learn a bit more about the islands. How many people are really living there on each island? What are their histories? Just to get a more feel for the place. • More videos about how you go to the shops every week, including the shops and restaurants you visit and the relationships you build over time with the shop owners and customers. • You are riding a motorbike at one point-did you rent it, or how did you get it? There’s definitely more content available there. • You often talk about flour that you use for cooking that is harvested from a tree. It might be interesting to see how you do this, how you do the harvesting. • Perhaps a video about the cost of living. I know you get most of your stuff from nature, but you still have additional costs like chicken feed, dog food, and coffee. It might be interesting to see what the cost of living is, what the whole house cost you eventually, and how much you save by doing things yourself. People love seeing videos about saving costs, and these are usually popular. • And obviously, you can also do videos about the mainland. There are definitely things within your reach that probably won’t cost you that much to film and show from a non-tourist perspective. It sounds like you guys are going to get a Starlink terminal very soon. I did see that it’s available in Indonesia now. So hopefully you guys will be more connected then. Looking forward to more of your amazing videos! Best regards, Hannes
Hi Hannes, first of all wow! Thank you for watching all our videos and taking the time to write down these ideas! Some of them are already on our ideas list too so you’ll definitely be seeing some of those! Some other ideas you had are also interesting and we will for sure think about them. Thanks for the inspiration! As to answer a few of your questions: We are not making a business here or a company. But yes, definitely want to involve more of the local people and family and friends in the videos when they are around ☺️ And yes, we just got Starlink!! Hope this answers your questions a bit. We’re also thinking about setting up a Patreon and doing a Q&A soon ☺️☺️ Thanks again for your comment and have a nice day!
Well Done in your solar power! If you have more electrical items to run in couple of months time or in a couple of years time, I would recommend you consider "flow batteries" in your upgrade instead of Li- ion batteries. An Austalian Company has a manufacturing plant in Queensland and in Malaysia in manufacturing of flow batteries under "Redflow" brand & it is excellent! The beauty of "flow batteries" is it does not suffer from "thermal run away" and it can be discharged to o.o volts (many systems have a low voltage disconnect circuits) without harming the batteries compared to Li-ion batteries. I trust the company that did the solar installation has incorporated a one week (sometimes 3 days) of autonomy into your solar system as a general rule. Did the solar company install any lightning arrestors with the solar system? I would recommend using a heavy gauge green earth cable for earthing. I must point out that the solar power company should install two (2) earthing systems. One for solar & one for 240 volts ac out of your power inverter. These two earthing systems of solar & 240v should be isolated electrically and physically into the earth. Many companies around the world tend to be ignorant of safety and combine the two earths. I heard you mentioned in your previous video that you have alot of rain & thunderstorms on the island. I noticed from your video shots there is a lot of sea to ground wind and I would recommend a small wind generator to compliment the solar power system would be ideal. Infact you can have a solar, wind and a small standby dedicated diesel generator programmed to operate in a solar- wind- generator hybrid system to give you both a robust, full off- grid power system. The dedicated diesel generator only kicks in if there is no solar input to the batteries or no input wind power to the batteries. I am happy for both of you in choosing a clean, green renewable energy power system. May God Bless you both. I am will be utilizing multi band- gap solar photovoltaic panels with flow- batteries and the strong possibilty of a Solar Thermal- Hydrogen Hybrid Mini- Grid system to run our proposed down streaming of our coconut, cocoa factories, supply power to our villagers, water pumping, water filtering, sanitation and street lights in Nubia & Potsdamhafen in Hansa Bay. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!
Hi both of you on your lovely island paradise! I understand you may install a "star link satellite", that ia a very good idea as "star- link" is cheaper to install & costs less than other satellite systems. I would recommend the "star link mini" which has built in wifi and has reasonably fast internet data- streams for internet, video conferencing & RU-vid etc. Wish you both all the best. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea.
First time watcher but I’m already very engaged with your and your husbands story! Congratulations on the solar power system! Just wondering does the solar energy that is collected gets reserved once the battery is at full capacity of 100%? In Australia, we can sell our extra electricity back to the government from solar power.
Since we aren’t connected to a grid system, we can’t supply our extra electricity to the government. So when our battery is 100% then that’s it. Anything added is lost. That’s why we always do things that require a lot of power during the day :)
Wow, Exploring Alternative brought me to your channel, and I immediately subscribed. I'm from Indonesia, studying abroad, and have never been to Mentawai, which is on my list to visit. Definitely, it's a beautiful and magical place despite the challenges that you might face. I just wanted to say keep making videos on your channel.
Happy to have found your channel, Subscribed immediately 😍 Looking forward to learning more from you in the hopes of having one of our own in the Philippines. Keep on inspiring 🥰
0:05 Your refrigerator door opens the wrong way. You can easily switch it so it opens towards the wall. Sorry, I'm a retired carpenter and just notice stuff like this. New subscriber from Maui
Hello Marjolein and Adrianus , we appreciate the update and hope you two are well. Your solar power setup is impressive, and having a backup generator must provide some extra reassurance. Keep up the awesome work! 🙂
Hi, I live in Australia and have visited Bali Indonesia many times. The one thing I admired was how hard the construction men worked and how family oriented Indonesians are. I watch another home building series called Camp Out West based in Wales. In this series they have shown a number of very good solar power systems that you can easily move around and are very efficient with use of the solar energy. Maybe check it out to see if it helps. Your series I have only recently found and just love it. Your home is so beautiful your husband is such a skilled builder. Respect to both of you and your community.
wow that’s very interesting. It seems that you and the company that installed it went over all the possible bad scenarios. Hope for the best - be ready for the worst so they say!
Wow, I bet you are LOVIN having this solar set up. Luxury! Off grid life defo helps us to appreciate the simple things in life... We went for a long time without power on our land here and over time have slowly upgraded our solar set up, so that now we can run a normal washing machine - year round now, even in UK Winter! ... honestly this still feel like a major luxuary! Producing you own power is such a great feeling too - on sunny days I get really excited about things like running my dehydator all day if I need ... for free 🙌 ✌🌿
I love having things I've gone without because i really appreciate them more. A year later i just take it all for granted like a normal person though. 😂
For us it’s actually not too hot inside the house. I guess we’re so used to the heat haha 😆 We also designed and built our house so there’s always a lot of airflow going through.
Wow you guys are so inspirational, what legends! Thanks for sharing your journey. If you don’t mind me asking how much does something like the solar panel set up cost? Thanks 😊
Nice walk around of your solar system. Looking at the wires, it was done by professionals. This being said, I think you need much more spacing between your steel roof and your solar panel . I would easily add another 8 inch in between. Solar panel are very sensitive to heat .your roof is hotter Than an oven. You should consider painting your roof white , white doesn't absorb heat as much as darker colors. Have a great day
What wonderful and exciting videos! I live in Denmark and am curious about: How do you earn money to buy food and build a house for? Love from Stine in Denmark
I thought your name was actually Marilyn and that your husband was just unable to pronounce it correctly because this is the first video hearing you pronounce your name and realizing he was saying it correctly!! Lol! I’m so embarrassed to admit that. My family is so multicultural….we have Caucasian, Puerto Rican, Guatamalan, Black, Cherokee in our family! We love them all! I love your island content…the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s very interesting. I’m glad you’re sharing this with us. But I just know I wouldn’t last a day lol. So, I live the island life through you!
@@OurIslandLife janagn lupa dikonten kan pasang stralink sampai digunakan , dan sampai gimana perbedaan dari sebelum tidaka ada starlink dan sesudah ada stralink
just subscribed to your channel..welcome to solar world/ community..im happy for you invested on solar..im from philippines btw living in remote area somewhere in cebu provice😊😊my whole house is powered also by solar+alexa.😂😂i love people investing on solar because its environmentaly healthy..kudos to the family.🎉🎉
