I was wondering 😅

My roommate in college made these for Lunar New Year in a fit of homesickness with Banana leaves. We managed to find the rice after looking through half a dozen Asian food stores. The little Vietnamese lady at the store gave us a bunch of things for free because she was so happy to see people willing to buy from her. We're lucky enough to have been in a very multicultural area so getting business in that area is hard when you are one of 30 vendors selling the same thing. Happy New Year! (We celebrate Lunar New Year, also Asian but slightly different food customs.) The cleaning is universal in Asian countries. Cleaning with the red handkerchief over your hair and the whisk broom in hand is a time honored horror I mean, *tradition.*

Amazing story, yes, Greece in the older days didn't had a lot of xeno people, maybe that's why they're not used to foreign things and some of them are afraid even to try something non Greek. I have yayas in my old neighbourhood in Greece where they don't want to try new things, old generation, but i think young Greeks today, most of them, are more open to international cuisine and new flavours.

I find the most expensive thing about going to Vietnam is the flight and visa . Once you get there, everything is so affordable and cheap

We prepare a similarly wrapped food in Venezuela. It‘s funny that we also have hierarchies in the line of assembly. My aunts were the only ones that my grand mother allowed to wrap and tie the „hallacas“. Fortunately they also taught my generation so we can do our own now 💓

Yeah but if nobody else is allowed to do it, no one will learn it. Her mother started at one point, too and wouldn't it be sad if the tradition would die, because nobody knows how to do it besides her.

Our cushiness foods is variously type & yummy 😋 I hope more Youngful Vietnamese & Vietnamese born & raise in West or overseas is keeping praise their cultures alive, never fade away or brainwashed by others cultures to dump our cultures!! Can you actually eat it? It was cooked for 10 hours, but out of curiosity, it seemed so thick.

@@agnesmeszaros-matwiejuk8783 we don’t eat them, they’re for wrapping and food colouring only. if u take a look at the other video about food during Tet by Uyen, u’ll see her unwrap banh chung and discard the wrapping (lá dong) ^^

it gives unique flavor, we eat some thing else for vegetable dishes. Actually true Vietnamese meals alwalys have vegetables somewhat

Thank you for the information. I just know that galangal leaves can use for food colouring too. We use Phrynium Placentarium (pandan leaves) and Dracaena angustifolia (suji leaves) for food colouring in Indonesia.

I love to cook food from other cultures (or at least to try to 🤣) I always feel like german food is so boring regarding the spices... it's always just salt and pepper 😅 When I saw you prepaing the spices for the cakes, my german brain was really confused to see you continouing with chopping the pork. Sie sind wunderschön im Garten, aber im Haus fangen sie oft so übertrieben an zu duften, dass man es kaum aushalten kann; das blieb Euch jetzt erspart, weil sie nicht ganz aufblühen konnten. (Oder, wie ein Freund von uns einmal sagte: "Entweder die Lilien verlassen dieses Zimmer, oder ich!" 😂🤣😂)

And lilies are super dangerous for cats so nothing to give a cat owner :)

@@Phalaenopsisify only if your cat goes near them - I have lillies all the time as our cat doesn't go on any surfaces like tables, neither did our last cat.

While that's true for sweet corn varieties, "sweet corn" is also a particular variety of corn. Other varieties include dent corn & flint corn, among others. Certain corn varieties are better for making corn meal or popping. You can eat them fresh but they won't be as sweet and juicy. Sweet corn varieties arise through natural mutations (genetic engineering not required) and certain ones grow better in different places.

那是因为中国太大了，在广东，我们过春节时也会买这种桔树，在上面挂上一大堆红包，作为过年装饰。当然在我小时候，更常见是买水仙盆景摆在家里，大概是节后不那么难处理😂。

The trees are common practice in Guangdong during Chinese New Year ! Not so much in rest of China. I guess cuz in Cantonese the tress name mean good luck
