How Weaves and Wigs are Made
What are wigs made of and how are they created? If you can’t answer these questions, don’t worry! Over the next several minutes, you will discover everything you need to know about how weaves and wigs are made. But be warned: it’s more interesting than you think…
The main raw materials for wigs and weaves are human hair, synthetic fibers which are simply artificial materials designed to mimic hair, and occasionally yak hair. Yes, yak hair, it’s true.
The process of making wigs and weaves starts with collecting hair. Countries like India, China, and Vietnam, are mainly where this all goes down. People here give away their hair for different reasons, including cultural or religious ones. Specifically, vendors in Vietnam look for hair from women aged between 18 to 30 to ensure the hair is top-notch - healthy, undamaged,...and incredibly tasty. When your wig looks something like the hair from “The Grudge”, you know you’ve hit the jackpot! This picky selection keeps the hair's natural direction and makes the final wig or weave less likely to tangle. And I for one, would rather get hunted by a pack of bloodhounds than be forced to wear a tangled wig. Wouldn’t you?

If I could donate the hair from my shower that my wife sheds. My drain could make thousands of wigs.

Um, we can't say anything about this...we plead the 5th for fear of retaliation from said wife, haha.

You can get what's called the tubrella. It's a gadget that you put over the drain that has a screen that collects the hair and just need to be pulled off after using. Then just put it back on shelf until needed again. This prevents the drain from getting clogged up. 😊 Oh and I got mine on Amazon
