If the tailor is good, you should just have to show them the clothes and tell them what you want, like how he said to make the shirt less baggy and to taper the jeans. He was more specific because he knew what he wanted, and he knew his calf measurements, but normally a tailor will measure you to make sure they don't take it in too much. And with the length of the slacks, he knew they could only make them a tiny bit longer because he looked at the inside of the hem and saw that the fabric had been cut without leaving much for letting them down (Walmart probably doesn't waste fabric, so they probably cut the pattern pieces to leave just enough seam allowance that they can be sewn without leaving the raw edge to fray, expensive brands leave more in the seam allowances specifically for things like letting them out).

You guys are missing the point. You’re assuming clothes from a place like H&M will fit perfectly off the rack. But if you’re an odd shape, height, or whatever, you’ll most likely still need to get your clothes tailored.

You can buy same money and buy from outlet t-shirts and shirts cost 5-10$ which will save you altering cost.

I think it's trying to show more like instead of going somewhere and spending $500 or $1000 dollars on a wardrobe of very nice slacks and dress shirts, you could buy cheaper things and spend just a bit extra altering them to fit well. In other words, the fit is more important than the quality? Also you could apply this to a thrift store or garage sale. For example need a nice suit, find one that is a bit too big, but looks nice and get it for cheap and pay for the alterations.

well.. 90 bucks on clothes plus 50 bucks on tailoring (on 2 pants and 1 shirt). so for under 150 bucks there's a ton of outfits. you could've bought the same amount of items at more expensive stores for more money, but you still wouldn't have had the expensive tailored look. Also, just shop around for tailors, not all of them are expensive :)

TheJonas973 when I buy really cheap clothes I ALWAYS handcwash them. If I'm too lazy to hand was I'll let them air dry. Some if the clothes If I put them in the dryer I let them dry till they are damp and air dry the rest of the way. My clothes last a long time because of this.
