I don't know if it makes a real difference but before I was playing ps1 games with my resolution set to 1920x1080 and with smoothing on, now I have it at 640x480 with no smoothing, and obviously 4:3 with no shaders and it seems to play all games I tested a bit better.
Holy shit, this was way more detailed and funnier than I anticipated. Love how much attention you gave the sound aspect of the emulation. Sound is just never emulated accurately, moreso with consoles of the 16-bit era. I wonder if this will ever get some deserved attention.
Man, you sure spent a lot of time showing the Hooters game. Out of the 1,000+ PS1 games, that's the one you cared so much about not working properly? You must have really wanted those Hooters girls videos to play correctly.
Heh... well, Hooters Road Trip is kind a unique in a way. It is only game out of 100+ that I have tested that crashes that way (alignment error) and it does it predictably (thus showing flaw on the emulator operation that could be problem on other titles). Also boobs.
But hooters is the least played game anyways because most people mainly played RPG's, Fighting, and sports titles and while growing up at the video rental stores i always saw what was usually in was racing games which a lot of people doesn't tend to play that much back then(besides the gran turismo series) unless you were at like the arcades.
I played Ridge Racer Revolution more than any other PS1 game, the second I played the most was probably Doom (PS and Saturn had the best Doom versions ever).
ekan parin sanan jälkee arvasin et varmaa suomalainen tekemäs videoo :D hyvin tehty video, täytyy käydä hakemas pi 3 b model nii pääsee itekki testailee :D
I could actually tell a difference in the clarity of the instrument synths around 8:30, and surprisingly I'm noticing that the emulator actually sounds a bit... clearer? O.o There's more depth to the bass, the highs are more crisp... It genuinely sounds better to me. :O I did notice the somewhat tinny sound, but that compared to the rest of the sound it produces is almost unnoticable to me.
I can tell the difference in dynamic range between the two samples, the true PS1 version has a more pronounced mid that particularly helps the hide skin drum sound a bit "wider", it's cheating though when you've studied music and sound engineering though, most people couldn't give a shit.
I could definitely hear the difference. It's subtle, but noticeable to my ears though, I'm not a sound engineer so I couldn't even begin to explain what the actual difference is. Thanks for the explanation.
PS2 (even phat) does not have all the PS1 parts. It has the main components but not all. There is a list on wikipedia of games that have issues with all ps2 models (it is short but does not include things like Rollcage 2 menu pointer issues). So my point about having some pieces of PS1 and PS2 not being able to 100% emulate ps2 are in fact accurate.
Your a funny funny man but I think your humour is above a lots of people’s comprehension. Thanks for the video, I already own a Modded Original Xbox but am thinking of either upgrading to a raspberry retropie or a Odroid retropie.
Yeah R4 audio is wrong, same on my raspberry with pcsx-rearmed r22. I'm also testing Mednafen on Windows and the audio seems to be correct, it is a pretty good emulator.
I've got a nice image from Arcade Punks. Theres a bunch of great ps1 titles. I played the hell out of Tony Hawk which is why I bought a ps1 back in the day and it plays perfect on my pi3. Heaps impressed. Still, I've got my ps1 and gonna purchase Tony Hawk asap. Its between 50 to 150 but hell its worth it.
My friend i have a question for you: i need know how work in this emulator the next games of PlayStation 1 -Mortal Kombat II. -Mortal Kombat 3. -Mortal Kombat Trilogy. -Mortal Kombat 4. -Primal Rage.
How well does it handle rhythm games, like Parappa the Rapper, Umjammer Lammy, Bust-A-Groove 1 & 2, and Dance Dance Revolution? If there timing issues, are there any solutions to those problems?
I have only tested Parappa the Rapper and Vib Ribbon (PAL versions). Both seem to be fine in a terms how similar they are to the games running on a real PS1. I have not played that much of them, but it would seem that most of, if not all delay would come from the TV (the emulator won't add anymore delay than normal PS1 would have). As for the fix, there are options for sound and frame delay and messing with v-sync might have some effect and of course the biggest one is the TV's "game mode". I don't yet know how much if all these effect the actual experience.
I don't know if you've ever played 'Beatmania' on the PS1, but that was my favorite rhythm game by far, and I played Parappa and Bust a Groove until the discs melted! Look out for that ROM!!
Yes. I have already recorded most of the footage for the next one. It should be ready in about week. It takes good amount of time because of comparing PAL/NTSC, VS. original PS1, VS. other emulators, VS. running on different BIOS/ settings etc. Vib Ribbon will be on the next video and I will check if I can get good enough in Parappa to give an opinion (or find a way to measure input lag performance in some way).
Check out final fantasy 7 remake on ps4. It is amazing. Playstation emulator requires a bios image Scph1001.bin for retropie. there are 3 disc images to put in the roms folder.
I was playing Tales of Destiny and it works fine but my pi was giving me a temperature warning. I have heat sinks on that came with it, do I need a fan too? Have you encountered this as well? Thanks.
No, I haven't received temp warnings but I have noticed if I check the temps with command line, they are quite high after playing PS1 games. I don't have a heat sink or a fan - I just pop open the case (remove the top) when playing PS1 games.
Crash Bandicoot 1-3, great platformer Crash Team Racing, ps1's Mario Kart , Metal Gear Solid, stealth action, probably the best ps1 game ever Driver 1+2, car chase game Coolboarders 2, snowboarding game Tony Hawk, skateboarding game Need for Speed, Test Drive, both arcadeish racers Air/Ace Combat, jet fighter game Hot Shots Golf, Megaman Legends 1+2, 3D megaman!
Tekken 2 or Tekken 3 was awesome. Marvel VS Capcom. Nightmare Creatures. I'm just trying to name the ones that no one mentioned. But the ps1 was a very good system. Dino Crisis was crazy, too!
No, there is no memory card - like solution. Backup discs have separate save locations for each, so you either have to move files from one location to another or make PBP file that contains all the game backup discs in a single file.
Not true at all, you can create a .m3u file (text file) containing the filename disks. When you need to swipe discs, you can go to retroarch menu and swipe discs easily. You can save the game as in the real PS, using a virtual memory card that only will work on this game, or you can do a quick save using a combination of buttons or using retroarch too.
NotOrdinaryInGames emulators are all progressive with some having an interlacing effect option. the high resolution is resolution scaling with texture filtering.
NotOrdinaryInGames graphic emulation ps2 had a progressive scan option damn i just erased my post the output is going to be "progressive" the original input may have been interlaced. maybe read about TV technology to understand it better.
It can send 1080p signal, and you can stretch it to various aspect ratios. There is also option for GLSL shaders and texture smoothing, however those could have issues with frame rates at some times.
Cooooool! :D:D:D:D:D Ai ettäh.
