How Western Failures Are Fueling China’s Rise 

US is trying everything to thwart China's development, but forget to work on its own problems. Democracy is only the means, not the purpose. The purpose should be making people's lives better.

As a Singaporean who lived in Australia, its not that the West is failing. But certainly when crisis arise Chinese people solve it with brutal efficiency while Westerners become armchair philosophers to debate human rights and governmental systems. Still baffles me, if there is a fire in your apartment you put it out right, but Westerners would spend time debating where the fire came from while criticising their roommate's way of life, who may or may not have accidentally started the fire.

The China Model works quite well for China but it probably wouldn’t work well elsewhere. Democracy works quite well for US and Europe but it probably wouldn’t work well in Saudi Arabia for example. So stop forcing your ideology to other countries.

Whatever you say China being an oppressive, authoritarian regime, or one that is only boasting successes and concealing failures, it won’t change the fact China remains the top-most country most trusted by its own nationals. Its approval ratings > 90% is envied by all its western counterparts. The dramatic growth of its economy in the last 4 decades, making its the 2nd largest economy after the USA. Its ascension to the middle-income bracket while lifting nearly 800 million people from poverty. Its success in beating the covid-19 pandemic with the lowest infection and death rates among major economies. Advancements in 5G/6G, quantum computing/telecommunication, space exploration, Beidou navigational system, etc, all of which are making China one of the most competitive countries. This only says one thing loud and clear - its socialism model with unique Chinese characteristics is one that is working, and for that matter, it is far more efficient than Western Capitalism Model where 99% of wealth is controlled by the top 1%. China is now embracing on its latest 'Common Prosperity' program, building an even bigger middle class group as well as spreading the national wealth more evenly among its nationals. Perhaps in the not-too-distant future, China will attain its goal of national rejuvenation, regaining its leadership position in the central stage of the global arena, leading its vast population to prosperity, stability, and peace.

Everything described as “autocratic” in this video aptly applies to the US far better and more conclusively than China.

I am from South East Asia. I have American friends who said America is control by Wall Street and MIC ( Military Industrial Complex like Boeing, Northrop, Lockheed-Martin, Honeycomb, etc ) and neglected the middle class and the poor while focusing on the rich. After this video, l think my American friends are right.

Keep saying China’s system is unsustainable yet never questioned how long the US can carry on borrowing humongous amounts of money to survive.

It's not about making a more efficient political system, it's about making one that people want to live in...

When I was in America, I felt totally unsafe. In China you will feel safe everywhere I go. Personal and family safety is the biggest Human rights to me ☺️

As an Indian Singaporean diplomat once said: China is a 5,000 year old civilization, the US is a 250 year old state. Yet somehow the Americans think they can force the Chinese to adhere to the American model.

Can anyone of us imagine the quality of life the Americas would have if the USA tended to its own affairs and leave the other regions of the world o tend to theirs. Personally I’d just settle for a US high speed rail service.

Having lived through the years before China opened to the world in early 1980s, educated in the West and now living in China, I think the US failed to understand that China now has a governance system that is not based on ideology, but a system driven by targets, especially economic targets. It is absurd in China if you argue if the country is a communist or capitalist. Improving living standard is in everyone's mind. To Chinese people, the US is now probably more ideologically based. The misunderstanding of China actually put the US in disadvantages.

The US should look at their problems honestly instead of blaming China for her woes.

It is very funny that when I started to contact the Western media, the Western world thought that China would collapse tomorrow But five years have passed, and we have become stronger 😂😂😂 Initially, I felt that the CCP was lying, but now, I feel that compared to the Western media, the CCP is the cleanest, cleanest, and most efficient government in the world

But here in the west we have less and less democracy. More and more are we dictated from private corporations.

There are inaccuracies by your guest speaker. China did NOT become a republic under the Communist revolution of 1949, this was 3 decades earlier; It forced the last Qing boy emperor Pu Yi, to abdicate in 1912, with the early republic under it's first President Sun Yat-sen.

I've been living in China for more than 20 years. I want to point out that "one-party" or "No general election" doesn't mean that Chinese people cannot express their opinions or criticize the government. The West always tends to describe China as a nation without "freedom" and the people living there are "unhappy" under the high pressure of the central government. But the fact is actually the opposite. Chinese people are satisfied with their leader and system. They trust the government because the system enables the government to find the most capable politicians to "Serve the people" but not make the election become a ridiculous game of the rich.

In other words, Western success is to keep China down. The West was very successful in keeping Africa down until China helps Africa to rise.

When a country is (politically,economically, culturally, racially ) divided , keep borrowing money, and can’t even pass (edit:SIMPLE) laws what do you expect.

The Chinese success is actually more about east Asian culture, not democracy or authoritarianism. We can look at another issue that the Asians have been doing much better than the west, especially America: drugs. In China, and all other countries that have been influenced by Chinese culture in the region, have very strict laws against drugs. Users would be sent to forced withdrawal, drug dealers can be put to death. This is completely unimaginable for westerners.

It has more to do with hard work and down to the potential and ability of the Chinese people. The Western countries are still the riches and most powerful nations on earth. China's Rise was not built on stealing lands from native people, on the blood and bones of black slaves or from colonisation to steal the wealth from other countries.

In China we call these volunteers in hospitals 白衣天使and白衣战士,which means The Angel in White and The Warriors in White. They come from all over China, some medical staff, some soldiers, some just normal citizens, answering the nation’s call for help and organization. Many of them are ones of the new generation (born in 2000s), who many consider to be young foolish and lazy people. But they bravely stepped forward, not seeing family for months, fainting from the heat in their protection gear, faces swelling up from long hours with masks, hard work in exchange for the happiness and security of their homeland and their fellow people. They proved those accusing voices wrong, and in doing so earned all of our respects. Salute to them❤️

How many times do us Chinese people need to repeat ourselves? We are not interested in replacing the western political system. How about you can have your political system and we can have ours? I don’t see how this stop us from doing business with each other.

I was in China once. It seemed to me they are rising through their own hard work. I may be wrong though, but i doubt it.

One thing that I have learnt recently is to never be invested on another person/party failure. It can make you do despicable things. I think US is focused on how to slow down China and rather it should focus on, how can we better country. One of the biggest failures of western countries I observed is that instead of acknowledging and working on their own social, political or racial problems, they tend to blame all problems on someone else or divert the focus by making new problems just because it's easier. Fundamentally it's lacking of accountabilities. I believe competition is essential for improvements, why do we always have to spilt the world by ideologies such as democracy vs autocracy, capitalism vs communism, liberalism vs conservatism? Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone can learn from their counterparty, compete freely and evolve?

Even pushing aside the Chinese political system, that the USA is the beacon of democracy is ridiculous. Within the western countries, many countries are showing better performance than the USA in terms of the benefit and equality, such as north European countries. Speaking of taking care of the working class, contrary to the USA which has been abducted by the capitalists, German has a healthier and more balanced economical structure. So the problem is not about the communism or authoritarian. It’s the declined hegemony that the USA is facing.

Not only ideologies. Bloomberg won't say anything about the power of lobbies in a democratic governments. Many countries in Europe changed their system because of prolonged wars and crowny capitalism within kings and their clergy group. Now US is in the same situation where lobby capitalists have influence in the government including Bloomberg. But in China there are capitalists even within the government, but not "capitalism". And after the war in Ukraine, US and their allies are showing more weakness by inflation, debt and ideologies, China is asserting it's influence through Belt and road initiative.

Just keep in mind, China saved US from the death bed in the 2008 financial crisis. Of course, China did it not out of altruistic motives, but to save the American market for its export. You can also rest assured when the next financial crisis hits US, China won’t lend US a dollar, because there is no need for China to save US. Rather it would probably make the situation worse for the US. I’m super happy about US losing its dominance and hegemony, and go back being a moderately successful country

He mentioned Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Singapore - all countries are basically islands (including South Korea because the border with North Korea isnt crossed at all). It's amazing how human beings are effortlessly biased,. When the gentleman talks of the successes of democracies in handling covid19 he conveniently leaves out Brazil and India which are amongst the world's largest democracies and have failed extensively even when compared with the likes of Iran and the rest of the "stans". His examples of democratic successes reveal bias towards Western nations.

As a Chinese, China has many problems, but problems and achievements coexist. I often scold Xi jinping at home, but we don't seek to replace him unless he can't solve the Taiwan issue in the next five years.

Which system is correct. Who cares? Most importantly, people in the county feel safe, happy and harmony.
