I've been asked so much about natural family planning lately so I thought I would do an in-depth video chatting about my story, why we do it, and how!

Why don’t women learn these sort of things in school? Like the mucus and cramping symptoms in the middle of the month, I had no idea until now what that meant. Thank you so much for teaching me a bit about this! ❤️

Unfortunately religions want to push a more conservative abstinence agenda because they are afraid that educated people means they will go out and have a lot of sex. Even though statistics prove education equals lower teen pregnancy and stds
@brianamartin5303
@brianamartin5303 4 года назад
@@choosnau this is wildly inaccurate. Religious reasons is one of the main things that draws people to NFP in the first place. For instance, it is the only form of birth control approved by the Catholic Church. Therefore the Catholic Church pushes for this kind of education- they're all about learning your body's fertility signals for your own health and goals (conception/avoidance)

If you are breastfeeding and talk to your medical provider about birth control, they would bring this up with you. However, there is a form of birth control pill that is often prescribed for breastfeeding moms which does not carry the risk of affecting your milk supply, it’s often called the “mini pill”. It’s not quite the same as the normal pill because it’s more important that you take it at the exact same time every day. That said, the normal pill only carries a chance of affecting your supply and it is not guaranteed to affect every woman.

I totally agree. I feel like we’re just expected to go on the pill and receive no education about how badly it can mess with your hormones and even mental health. I am literally a different person on the pill and for this reason have been also successfully NFP for 4 years now

We also did natural family planning. It worked very well for 6 years after we had our two daughters (ages 7 and 9 now), but then WHOOPS! I got pregnant with our son. After YEARS of ovulating on schedule, I apparently ovulated one week early. And he is going to turn 1 in 6 days. I can't believe it! It definitely has it benefits, but didn't 100% work for us, haha! ;-)

It’s really cool hearing a non-catholic talk about NFP! I love love love that non-Catholics and even non-Christian women are catching wind of the beauty of NFP and women’s fertility! Personally, I used the sympto-thermal method which taught me how to predict my period and also about the symptoms I experience throughout my cycle (basal body temperature tracking is incredible but not sufficient to predict ovulation, only to confirm that you already have ovulated) and now that I am postpartum I’m using the Marquette method which brings a lot of certainty to the uncertain time of postpartum! Highly recommend NFP to all women, because it not only tracks fertility but also womanly health in general!

I do the sensiplan which is a sympto-thermal method: you look for the symptoms (mucus or cervix) and measure the temperature every morning. There are exact rules to how you calculate when you are fertile/unfertile. When done right its as safe as the pill.

Well me and my husband tried that...worked for 1 month after marriage and than I got pregnant...I´ve tracked my cycles and studied a lot for a year before we got married so I thought I knew my body...I was able to predict when my period would come etc...Obviously it doesn´t work for everybody. Didn´t mean to scare you but you have to be ready for that scenario. It could easily happen out of your fertile window.

My husband and I do Natural family planning and it only failed once. We had a communication error and the stars aligned (cause we only did it once) and I got pregnant with my 3rd and absolutely did not want to be pregnant, but we are also Christians and believe 100% in Pro Life. I had our 3rd and we naturally planned til this year when I said let’s just not care. I literally got pregnant 2 weeks later with our 4th. We are TOO fertile. Lol
@braria9855
@braria9855 Год назад
We joke about this in biology, but women tend to feel the sexiest and most in mood right before and during ovulation. Less breakouts, not bloated, more energy, well rested ... you get it, stars align. So while they literally can get pregnant only one day a month (however sexual intercourse several, up to 5 days prior to ovulation day can lead to still surviving sperm being able to fertilize the released egg) most women tend to be open to intimacy precisely during this time, they also tend to be more open into experimentation and longer sessions. They, ironically, also more often are willing to go without a condom :D They are more likely to put on sexy underwear and wear red, tight or revealing clothes. It helps explain more of the "only one slip - boom. pregnant" pregnancies :D

Thanks for sharing this! So important and vulnerable :) for me - NFP has been one of the most empowering things I’ve ever done! For so many women, their own body is confusing to them (and unfortunately the popularity of the birth control pill keeps our own fertility shrouded in mystery) I’m glad your experience on BC was positive; but it’s important to note how rare that narrative is! Besides all the truly scary potential side effects, the pill suppresses ovulation and ovulation hormones, which are sooooo good for the body and mind! Also: it is a myth that NFP doesn’t work for irregular cycles. Is it more complex? Sure! But totally doable (speaking from experience). Certain methods of NFP are going to be better for those with irregular cycles and irregular symptoms. Having an instructor is extremely helpful. Thanks again! I hope anyone watching your video is intrigued and does some research :)

The chances are much more slim than your standard sex Ed class will tell you. There is a chance of get pregnant outside of your ovulation course, but typically it would only be from intercourse just before ovulation. There’s always the wild chance, which is why sex Ed pushes the “you can get pregnant anytime” message, but yeah NFP is more effective than one might expect.

It can still happen because sperm can live inside you for 5 days, meaning if you start your ovulation within that time frame then pregnancy can occur. That is why the Plan B pill can be really effective within the first few days of unprotected sex.

I love the respectful comments you made on the prolife/prochoice section. So many others are so judgemental about things they don't agree with.
@erikaplante-jean7745
@erikaplante-jean7745 4 года назад
Usually «prolife» means that you are against women liberty of choosing by themself. Prolife means that you think all abortion should be banned because it's to bad of a topic to let women decide what they want. That's why it creates a lot of conflict: Prolifes are offended by women getting an abortion and prochoice are offended by people telling them what to do with their body. Personnaly, I'm prochoice, but I think I would be uncapable of doing an abortion. If it's just a decision for yourself and you say «other people do what they want», it's prochoice, by definition. :)

@@erikaplante-jean7745 I appreciate your polite response but I heartily disagree with your assessment. The way you have characterized and generalized pro-life individuals simply isn't true. What pro-life people do not agree with in regards to abortion is that every abortion ends a human life. I do not at all mean to attack you, I hope you have a lovely evening or day. :)
@erikaplante-jean7745
@erikaplante-jean7745 4 года назад
@@annarocha3254 Thank you for adding to the debate. I understand what you are saying. I agree that it's what pro-life means strictly. But if we extrapolate that, when someone say «I'm pro-life» it also means « I think it's bad to do an abortion». To me, what she said in the video: «I'm pro-life, but everyone do what they want» is kind of a contradiction. To me, when we think something is bad, we want nobody to do that thing, we want nobody to have the choice to do that thing or not. That's why the position of «pro-life» is usually considered «anti-choice» by «pro-choice». English is not my first language so I hope It was clear enough and respectful, because it was my intention! I could add that as a vegan, I understand the feeling of thinking something is super wrong, and being sad/frustrated that a lot of people don't agree. So I think I can understand what pro-life feel.
@ambera8302
@ambera8302 4 года назад
@@erikaplante-jean7745 I understand. I'm also pro choice. I just meant that I've saw other RU-vidrs shame people that are prochoice instead of simply stating that they understand there are other opinions and that they are personally pro life. I personally would never have an abortion either but I am pro choice because I shouldn't have any say so in what other woman want to do with their bodys.

I agree with Erika that it is confusing to label yourself pro-life unless you fully believe abortion should be illegal and those seeking and providing abortions should be punished. I don't think it's necessary for Delilah to label her anti-abortion beliefs, particularly on this platform, unless her goal is to make a political statement. That's sort of opening a can of worms. Otherwise, she can just tell us what she personally believes for the choices she makes and I'm sure all her viewers will be receptive to that. I think there's a misconception that being anti-abortion means your pro-life. I think there are lots of people who identify as anti-abortion, but cannot support policies against abortion (like some of the ones in the US that don't medically make sense), which makes them pro-choice by default.

This is very interesting! I didn't know there were more signs you can look out for to tell if you're ovulating or not. I'm definitely gonna look more into this as my husband and I try to decide when to have another baby 🥰

What need to be added is that you shouldn't use this method if you are not «ok» with becoming pregnant by accident. I suggest people do that when they feel ready to have an unplanned baby.

@@vickyazabal3038 It works great if done correctly and with regular period. But, it has more chances to be done incorectly than other method (pills or IUD)

Hi Delilah! I love your videos. I had a similar journey being on and off the pill, and I initially began BC because I had super irregular periods while I was a teen. I used the pill for 5 years to regulate my cycle, but it went back to irregular after quitting the pill. I just wanted to add to the conversation that NFP is MOST DEFINITELY for women with cycle irregularities!! Even if your cycle length varies in number of days, tracking your temperature and cervical fluid will ultimately tell you when you are/are not ovulating. That has allowed me and my partner to enjoy a fulfilling sex life without additional protection or contraceptives, even if I can’t fully predict my cycle. ❤️

There is a really good book about this. Its called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Talks about the FAM method “fertility awareness method” which is pretty much what you’re talking about with a lot of more interesting backgrounds information. Its a really good read!

Just because you have an irregular period doesn't mean you can't do natural family planning! I would encourage you to read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." In the book, she talks about how you can track your irregular periods and understand why they are irregular. There might be something causing your irregular cycle. This book is amazing. It changed my life, and I can't recommend it enough !!!

We use natural family planning as well. I’m happy that you’re spreading the word about it. I wish more woman knew that they can use more natural methods. I told my doctor we were using NFP as a birth control method and she told me it doesn’t work. We used it 100 percent successfully for 6 months straight until we decided to try to conceive. We use Marquette method. :)

Marquette user here too! The stigma that NFP is just the calendar method is so sad and does not give justice to the wonderful ways in which you can know your body as a woman. It's the best feeling ever for me to know exactly when we could potentially conceive and when we should abstain.

My OBGYN told me the same thing when I told her we were using NFP, which is hilarious because at that time we had been married for over 2 years and we hadn't gotten pregnant yet, so I would say it's pretty accurate!

I’m definitely trying this method after my baby is born. This will be baby number two for me, and I’m not concerned with preventing number three too strictly (as in if it happened I wouldn’t be bothered), so I think it’d be an interesting time to try! I’ll have to wait 18 months to start nfp- as I’m a c-section momma- so it’ll be plenty of time to regulate and breastfeed before giving it a go! Thank you so much for the extensive video, as some are a little more brief/confusing! Also so happy to hear about your views on what you’d do if you “accidentally” became pregnant, as I share the same belief as a Christian woman!

Yes to all these ways of knowing when you ovulate! Ovulation is a great thing... not just for making babies! I used temperature tracking for over a year.. coming from a woman with irregular cycles, & struggling with hormones/infertility (PCOS cyster). It worked great to see if my body even reached ovulation (a common thing that happened due to the PCOS) and I found it very informative! Years later and we’re finally expecting our miracle baby - obviously thanks to Jesus, but I was able to know when & that I ovulated from the increase of my body temperature! Glad natural planning is working great for you guys ❤️

I am very interested in switching to NFP from a hormonal IUD, which I have had on and off for 8 years. it's never failed us, but I regret that I'm so out of touch with my cycle and my body-I don't even get a period anymore. we are craaaazy fertile (like got pregnant first try both times) and we are very much planners so this would be interesting to work out, lol. great video, Delilah!

Nice that you talk about it!! It's also possible to use NFP with irregular cycles because you always chart day after day and know that day if you're fertile or not. So it doesn't matter if you have irregular cycles 😊

Even though I was conceived with NFP, I still think it is the best method to go with. When my mom was pregnant with me and showed her doctor her temperature diagram, he told her, she couldn’t be pregnant. Yet here I am 😊 My parents were super happy to finally have a girl.
