Hi Pat. Love your videos I have been watching for years and I have gotten some great tips from you. So I wanted to return the favor, 😂. This one is one I picked up from another cross stitcher about gridding. She recommended Sulky Sliver Metallic thread because as you are stitching your work you won't pierce it, which will make it much harder to remove. It has worked perfectly. Hope this helps. Have a wonderful day.
I did! I am finally finishing up the Halloween Spooky Sampler from a past sew along, and this is perfect for using up all the left overs from that build. I am going to add the witches hat to the dog. Super fun!
The red & white horse fabric would make a lovely Christmas project for your horse loving niece - tree skirt or table topper. Something simple, but oh the impact on her heart and home during the holidays.
I’d love to do a sew a long in September with the Wiener Dog pattern. It’s a perfect quilt for my son who just lost his 13 year old min pin wiener dog. His birthday is in October, so this quilt is perfect timing ❤ I can frugally use one of my jelly rolls from my stash too. 😊
Weiner Dog QAL - I said to myself, well I won't be doing this one, then all of a sudden I am on FQ Shop and downloading the pattern. It is so stinking cute. Thanks Pat!
Just LOVE your “Fruitcake”!! I really like that background. It gives it “happiness” in my mind. Just wonderful. Looks like flowers so I’ll have to make it for my little granddaughter who loves flowers.
You are so patient! Happy you are taking time for yourself - you are so deserving. Watch your posts with breakfast everyday. Yes to the wiener dog SAL. Thanks for always sharing your tips, tricks, and insights!
Love love love Weiner dog!!! I bought the pattern 2 yrs ago...started it, but have not finished . Of course, I decided to increase the size and frustrated myself with figuring out measurements. A sew along will spur me on to finish it!!! Yeah 🎉
Pat some of your novelty fabric would be cool for the dog quilt, and be super fun for a kid. This is me thinking outside the box for fabric selection, especially for kids.
I always wanted to make The Weiner Dog quilt ever since Donna Jordan made the video. I'll look forward to quilting along with y'all. Pat, I wonder if the lady who sent you all the acque quilt animal cut outs is interested in selling me a set of applique animal cut outs? I don't recall who sent them. Missed you yesterday morning. Y'all have a fabulous week. 🥰🥰🥰
Loved the video today and that long, long wiener dog. I have wanted to do this pattern for a while. I paused the video and hopped over to get it. Ready now. I have a jelly roll, but it may not be the one I use. We’ll see. ❤ 😊
Hi. @The Guy Who Sews has been working on the weinner dog as well. Check him out. Sean is a great guy. Thank you for the post regarding borders. Always informative. Thanks Pat!
Count me in to do the weiner dog sew along! Love how the fruitcake quilt turned out. I never would have thought to mix those colors but I love how they work together!
Three years ago I saw and fell in love with this wiener dog quilt pattern and made three of them for grandchildren. I used bright batiks in three different colour ways for each quilt. The quilts were fun to sew and the results were beautiful. I highly recommend this pattern!
Twelve years ago I made a wiener dog quilt for my nephew from the book dare to be square by Boo Davis. It’s a great book made many quilts from it over the years
I'm with you on the Weiner Dog quilt--I have a good friend that I "owe" a quilt to & she has this breed & they are her babies! I have thought about making it For Years--so this will give me the "kick in the pants" that I need. Thanks Pat. YOU really MADE that FQS pattern sparkle with the addition of the re/orange 9 patch crosses all through your "Fruitcake" quilt--such a great example of how a pop of color makes the difference.
I don't care for many borders that I see on quilts. Too busy and I think that they often detract from the quilt itself. Even ones where the fabric is used to color the center blocks. To me, seems too congested in one area. I know I'm in the minority. I made the red quilt on your wall. I made it in blue, turned out great. That border compliments the quilt. The center blocks are so great that I think they should shine and they do. You do such a great job with your reasoning and explanations. Thx for all you do.
Love the Fruitcake quilt… & love the border (back fabric)… the Critters are darling… I think this one is better than the first!! Wiener dog will be fun!! Missed you yesterday…but you really deserve a long weekend! ❤❤
Like the idea of putting the selvage on the hanging sleeve! I've been trying to put selvages on my labels and my backings to name the fabric and designer. Only got this idea from watching you make your pretty red selvage quilt. I watched Donna Jordan make the weiner dog quilt a while ago and didn't think much about making it, but now my niece is almost 4 and getting a baby brother for Christmas. I think she needs a weiner quilt for when I give my new nephew his baby quilt. Jelly roll day sounds like a great day to make one!
I have just bought that pattern and Dog Daze fabric…so yes I have lost mind! Now I definitely will be sewing along with this one …my order will be here soon enough to participate.
Hi Pat. You will love working on the Halloween sampler! I've been working on it since March. A quick tip, take your book to a copy store and have them copy it for you. You can tape all the pages together so that you can mark off different rows/sections as you stitch. It makes it go so much faster. There is a note in the front of the book giving permission to copy for personal use. I like working from a paper copy because I can keep my original patter nice and neat for future use.
Today I was working out a boarder and used your technique all ready had little boarder then tried a 4" boarder and then remembered I had some prairie points ready, hadn't had quilt out for a while and saw a perfect fabric for a boarder but will use points as a teaching exercise for my quilting group.❤
Your Fruitcake quiltis adorable. Thanks for the border review. I don't know why I am border adverse. I feel like my eye is drawn immediately to the border and away from all the work. I only use background fabric borders and have the binding frame it. That is the result of my "extensive" six quilts produced experience :). But some day I will have to try one. Have had my eye on the weiner dog for over 2 years. so cute!
Great discussion on borders! We love tiny 1/4” inner borders on our OBW quilts. It’s surprising how that little bit of color pops. But most use the 1-2” inner sizes like you do. I liked the orange on that one.
Question: Do you have a video discussing how to put all different size blocks together into a quilt without a pattern, like your critter quilt. I have a group of blocks from a theme exchange, and I am struggling on how to put them together. I haven't caught all of your videos. I love the idea of the Weiner dog QAL! I have not made a jelly roll quilt yet and this one looks too fun! Thank you.
Yes!! I’ve been wanting to do the weiner dog for awhile now. I actually have a wonderful weiner dog named Diamond Girl who just turned 1 year old. She is an English Cream. Love her! Now you’ve given me the inspiration and I’m going to download the pattern and get my wieners in a row for September! YAY!
I have the dog pattern! I got it to make for my daughter-in-law for graduation from Surgical Tech school! She has another graduation and that gives me time to make it. I hope all works out to sew along with the group! 😅💜👩🎓
I'm in for Sept quilt -along! Think I'll make two. Or three. One to keep, one for Linus, and one for our annual Holly Daze bazaar in November. You should visit us in Kitty Hawk/ Southern Shores in November. We're pretty popular. Thanks for all you do. You keep my momentum going. (No easy task)😊😏
