Now that spreading and spraying with XAG drones is legal in the UK, the AutoSpray team are working hard to provide the Health and Safety Executive and the Chemicals Regulation Division with the information they need to consider authorising active chemicals, such as Pesticides, to be used in drones on farms in the UK.
A vital part of the information required is the Spray Drift data for each drone in typical working conditions.
To provide the government with data they could trust, there was one obvious partner, the experts at the Silsoe Spray Applications Unit.
Clare and her team are acknowledged as the UK’s leading experts on agricultural spray analysis and have devised a series of tests to establish the drift characteristics of the XAG drones.
Following a very successful day in the lab measuring the droplet sizes produced by the drone with a laser, we spent a busy day flying multiple tests spraying blue dye over collection disks to determine spray swath width.
Once we have the results of the latest trails, we’ll tackle the final step, the spray drift analysis.
