Status quo is hard to maintain when Joesep Lai does not want to abide to the 1992 consents.

lol; from a global prospective. Isn't mainland's empire Xi that wants to change and rewrite the Status Quo (aka the existing world order which nearly all of the G20 had benefited from, which includes China) Lets keep in mind that Beijing isn't just claiming Taiwan but also 90% of the West Philippine Sea (aka South China Sea) - etc etc against multiple other nations. So yeah; it'll be like giving 20% of Ukraine to Moscow so it can agree to peace, rest and than demand for more in another 2-8 years. Ever wonder why the once Pro-Beijing S.Korea/Philippine and X other had all basically align itself in the Western Camp instead of blowing to Beijing... though there are several different reasons (e.g felt threaten by Beijing, Beijing's economic decline made it less attractive, mixture of multiple reasons etc)

1992's consciences is that "it agrees to disagree". Beside that was made between KMT party with Beijing's political party and public involvement is nearly zero. Not to mention that the former president that advocated for it now have less than 10% approval rate in Taiwan... meaning, there are just no taker. In short it is seem to be a rope that would have tie Taiwan to Beijing and the Taiwan of today who choose the wider world seem to be doing even better... while reducing its dependence on trade with Beijing.

technically ROC (Republic of China, currently known as Formosa Taiwan) was not just any member of United Nation. It was one of the 5 permanent member who established the United Nation :3 Guess this is just another one of the fact that Beijing has avoided telling its citizens.

@@michaelwang6125”was”, right? Although the CCP lies all the time, that is not hidden or unspeakable in China. The CCP actually feels proud that it managed to replace ROC as the representative of China, otherwise how did it get the position as the permanent member of the security council?

@@ross1273 O___o I would say Beijing lies whenever it is convenient but you are saying it 'lies all the time? I may have to take your word on it since I like many haven't experience what live is like under 1 state-run narrative media. It is however a victory for Beijing when it took up ROC's seat... the misstep was when they did managed to do it; whoever was helping Beijing do the translation failed to get the policy change on Taiwan. It only "Ousted" the KMT which was a political party's representation INSTEAD of using the word "Taiwan" which would have shut the door completely to Formosa-Taiwan. This is probably something Beijing realized soon afterward but it was already too late to make the modification after the fact... meaning if a hot war were to break~ USA and many other nation can immediately change their recognization in favor of Taiwan and/or question Beijing's legitimacy than it really could become a big N.Korea. China ironically had more than 1 absolute leader that end up causing the population to decrease by over 10-25% during their reign. ^Yes there was someone who did more harm to the people than Mao's Great Leap Famine (2-3 years xx million lost) + 1 child policy.

@michaelwang6125
@michaelwang6125 4 месяца назад
this is the main reason why Japan's late PM Abe said if Taiwan is in trouble, so will Japan. S.Korea also said the same and Philippine president became the first president that Taiwan has no official diplomatic relationship with to congratulate him on his victory on X. The tug of war between America and Beijing for Asia countries has always been.. Rely on USA for Defense and China for Economy. Many country was leading towards China for economic in early 2010s but; There is a big change due to recent Xi years of Wolf warrior diplomacy and Moscow's invasion that highlighted the value of Defense. Not to mention China's economic charm had hastily tanked due to Beijing's own policies... e.g Hong Kong's stock index drop down by over 30-40%.... ugh that would had cause any president to lose their jobs in democratic nation. This is why even Taiwan's president is supportive of Ukraine's defense.. despite it means the potential of decrease military support for Taiwan itself. Expansionist once they gain something will always seek for more....and there goes the rule base order if they are successful.

It's like the case with Ukraine/Moscow. Putin wants to dominate it, dictates its foreign relationship (aka turn Ukraine back to a region under Moscow's control) but Ukraine refuse. Had Ukraine choose not to fight back and the international community backs Ukraine (namely because Moscow would have expanded and endanger Europe) - Note: Taiwan isn't refusing to talk when that has always been on the table but stated it must be talk without any pre-condition (e.g Beijing wants Taiwan to agree to etc in order to have a talk) This is on top of Beijing was the one that ruined its own "one country 2 system model" in Hong Kong back in 2019. Taiwan's pro-democratic party got a landslide 2020 victory largely thanks to Beijing's crackdown on Hong Kong... and since then, many had view Beijing's word to be untrustworthy. e.g It can change its policy overnight and that's what had driven many international business away.

Vice-Versa: China should abandon its communist non-transparent system. If it becomes even more democratic than even Europeans nations than Taiwan would naturally wants to move towards the mainland. Oh wait- Beijing's political elites are the owner of China so guess no one outside the system has a say about it. O___o since when is being dissatisfied with a political party a crime against the nation... except in N.Korea and now N.Korea 2.0

Taiwan is not independent because Japan removed itself from the Taiwan issue without recognizing Taiwanese independence. Japan did not cede Taiwan to China either. Japan only renounced its territorial rights. The ROC on Taiwan is not a state. Taiwan is not independent. Taiwan does not belong to China. Taiwan is not separated from China. Since separated from Japan, not from China, Taiwan’s international status remains undecided. William Lai never manifested separatist ambitions that China should take offense of. China does not own Taiwan. China has no say in the issue of Taiwan. China has no legal claim to Taiwan. William Lai is only recorded as saying that the September 8, 1951 Treaty of San Francisco which did not cede Taiwan to China, to any China is the cornerstone of Taiwan’s currently undecided international status. He also voiced his hope of seeing Taiwan shed its ROChinese hide. This is an internal issue of Taiwan best left to the sovereign electorate of Taiwan to deal with. It would help the Taiwanese to know that the protecting power, the US Congress, in the Jan 1, 1979 Taiwan Relations Act (TRA), a US law, posits that the alien Chinese regime on Taiwan and the Taiwan inhabitants who deem themselves of Chinese nationality according to the laws of that alien regime exiled on non-Chinese Taiwan are, perforce, “people ON Taiwan” instead of “people OF Taiwan”. That construct follows from the legal truth that the SFPT did not cede Taiwan to China, to any China. The TRA also suggests that Taiwan is just “Taiwan" and that the US would condone a name-change switching from ROC to plain “Taiwan”. But the Chinese language translation of the TRA fails to convey the intent of Congress and the letter of TRA. The Chinese translation of the act, except for the first occurrence of the key phrase, mangles the oft-repeated “people ON Taiwan” into “people OF Taiwan”. The 46-year old TRA in its Chinese language version undoubtedly misled, hampered the Taiwanese in their rightful pursuit of a Taiwan liberated of the Chinese regime Americans useful idiots had foisted on Japanese Taiwan almost 80 years ago. Sensing that the protecting power, prevents them from shed their Chinese hide, leaders of Taiwan chose to put up as best they could with the alien Chinese regime. They are deluding themselves into believing that they successfully localized that alien regime through electoral democrac and that it should be good enough. Lai Ching-te and Tsai Ingwen have been mislead by US-DOS in upholding the alien Republic of China regime on Taiwan since the demise of Chiang Ching-kuo. US-DOS has been once more too creative. US-DOS should be held in contempt of Congress for their underhanded mangling of the letter of the Taiwan Relation Act.

@michaelwang6125

yes; it must drop down all its defense; enable the population to be washed with pro-Beijing citizens so it can remain peaceful like Hong Kong and Tibet.. that basically had no sovereignty left. Can see why several nations and not just people are drifting away from Beijing; when even its own people are voting with their feet. If you can call the era of Mao on the mainland as "totally peaceful" than try explain why the quality of life was so poor and in some case shorten during those 'peaceful era with 'total freedom' (?)??

@michaelwang6125 4 месяца назад
@@jeromebesson It was Beijing's crackdown on Hong Kong in 2019 that lead to Taiwan's pro-democratic victory in 2020 since Beijing proven the current China to be not trustworthy. It was like the time when Mao promises Tibet their internal sovereignty and become part of China but broke it within Xi (10) years. Beijing even want to be able to pick who they next Lama is.... so yeah. Looking back; Putin wants to weaken Nato but his invasion into Ukraine had only made it stronger with Finland/Sweden both becoming a member.

Status quo means permanent separation of Taiwan from China. That is not what China want, nor is it the objective of the DPP, which wants Taiwan's independence. Thus it is a moot point. The truth is that China pushes toward reunification, while the DPP government pulls toward independence. This is the real situation across the Taiwan strait.
@michaelwang6125

The best way for Beijing to take on Taiwan (a decade ago) was to use its economic might and maybe create a more transparent/fair political system than existing global order if it seeks to change it. Sadly even Beijing knows communist system itself isn't good but they can't give it up since its what kept them in power. ^ this being said; the above is no longer a possibility since Beijing itself destroyed its own credibility on the global stage far too many times within the past 5 years. So we'll be seeing more of USSR's old tactic on 'divide and rule'etc to win over Taiwan... In my opinion, I would never risk an entire mainland over an island 1/100 of its size but Xi may want to try to do it for the sake of his legacy.
