How Will We Pay for Amp Modelers in the Future?

Modelers should be treated largely like pedals. Don’t ever buy it for the potential future of updates. You never know when a company is going to drop support for a device. Always be happy with the product you are buying in the box and then be bonus happy with new features. I have no problem with Neural doing the plugins as effectively paid DLC. They’re almost always working with a brand or player who is doing extra work for them. It also helps fund device blocks for all. Eventually modelers cap out on the number of people willing to buy them but the devs doing work to give away free stuff still need to get paid. Also F subscriptions You covered it very well

I’m a Kemper user. I have 3 units a stage and a toaster. Thoroughly enjoy playing with it everyday. If a QC was $900 l would have one to try. Musicians absolutely love to buy stuff. I have bought profiles. I appreciate the FREE updates. I would be willing to pay a small fee for BIG updates. I absolutely think QC if and when their plugins are available 🙄 for the unit as advertised like 4 or 5 yr ago, they WILL cost. I think their plugins are incredibly popular and quite good. The future is bright. I have no interest at this time in Tone X. I want an all in one. If anything l add a drive in front and maybe a quirky modulation effect in the loop. Pedals are great but a pilgrims progress of treaturous expensive adventures leaving me scratching my head asking why is my sound funny 🤔

It’s very similar to the gaming industry. More and more companies are selling paid DLCs or in the case of many live video game services, you pay-to-win. Ah-ha, I see you’re touching on this as I type it. In NDSP’s case, they’re a little better off. They have their plug-ins which are very popular and the market is used to paying for those plug-ins. NDSP has a pretty good revenue stream from that. If Line 6 started charging for their equivalent of NDSP’s plug-in, they’d be hated upon like crazy. I would be happy to pay a lower price for the Quad Cortex and pay for the tones I need. I’m probably in the minority though, most people don’t care about the company’s longevity, they just want everything to be free forever. When the company collapses from lack of revenue, they’ll just move on to the next free thing.

Most of these companies can’t find their butts with both hands , 🙌, only in the guitar community does quality control go out the window. Imagine if you purchased a tv and they said you’re gonna be able to view it in colour with the next update and then we will add sound at a later stage. Analog will always sound better to me, even undersaddle pickup still sound crap compared to a decent mic imo 🤪😍

In 1994, I was using MS Office and never had imagined that it would be a subscription based service. I am guessıng AMP modelling will be like that as soon as they solve the IP rights with software.
