In a world full of unrest, fears are mounting about access to our most vital resources - food and water. "The Grab" is a documentary that chronicles the way certain governments are attempting to control these global resources. The journalist and director behind the film, Nate Halverson and Gabriela Cowperthwaite, join the show to discuss whether the fight over our most precious commodities could lead to geopolitical conflict.

Here in New Mexico, we had shortages. I never saw a whole store empty, but certain sections would be, for example: no meat or cheese at the store. I’ve been posting for 10 years to anyone that will listen to start gardening. My grandmother use to garden and it seemed easy enough, until it wasn’t. There’s a learning curve and if you haven’t already started, do it now. Buy a cache of heirloom seeds and continue adding to it. Buy starter plants from your local, family owned nurseries and learn to garden that way. Find gardening groups in your zone and they will be happy to give you advice. Join a network of community so that you can barter when it’s time. Be prudent, the system is breaking and we are running out of time.

No, the more smaller farms there are, the cheaper food becomes because less and less are buying for big corporations that make up to 1,000% profit. Plant fruit trees in your own garden and stop making these huge genocidal companies richer. Food should be cheap as over 70% of food ends in the dustbin in 2024 due to big mega farming and food production companies forcing higher prices for higher profit and no consideration of the consumer.

As it stands right now not many want to pay a proper amount of money for any small farm raised product. As a small farmer myself so many people scoff at my egg prices and compare my eggs to what they could buy at Costco for less $ from an industrialized farm. Keep in mind, I charge just enough to cover my expenses. I don't make a dime for my time and I farm out of love not greed. The disconnect between the public and how food is grown/raised is far beyond repair at this point. People don't want to know. There are some who do care and those are the ones I sell my eggs to. But most people, do not.

Q Calm down. Cool 😎 heads do prevail. Start SMALL. ADD a little bit every single day. Start small: buy SEEDS...edibles like tomatoes 🍅, parsley, potatoes 🥔, onions, carrots 🥕, etc.. Dollar Tree 🌳 stores are a great place to start. Containers, soils, fertilizer. Next, stock a small pantry. 5 cans a week. Canned fruits, vegetables, and meats. After that, focus on dry goods: rice 🍚, pasta, and beans 🫘. 30 year + lasting food supplies: go with grains such as WHEAT that's unprocessed. Get a grain grinder. 3 simple ingredients to make life sustaining bread 🍞. Flour, salt, and water. To make more complex breads, include yeast and sugar, and herbs 🌿 in your pantry. SPICES make dull foods taste better. PRINT OUT 3 TO 5 INGREDIENTS RECIPES. Test them out to see if you like them. Stick to those you will enjoy 😉. LASTLY, LEARN TO TRADE AND BARTER. What do I mean? Develop a network of people who are willing to exchange things with. If you have useful clothes you would throw out or donate...instead, find a friend 🧡 to trade with. They might 🤔 know someone your clothes fit! They might give you lemon 🍋 or oranges 🍊 or something for your generosity! Q❤

Fear not the imaginations against thee, let not the incredulity of them trouble thee, that speak against thee. For all the unfaithful shall die in their unfaithfulness. Behold, saith the Lord, I will bring plagues upon the world; the sword, famine, death, and destruction. For wickedness hath exceedingly polluted the whole earth, and their hurtful works are fulfilled. Therefore saith the Lord, I will hold my tongue no more as touching their wickedness, which they profanely commit, neither will I suffer them in those things, in which they wickedly exercise themselves: behold, the innocent and righteous blood cries unto me, and the souls of the just complain continually. And therefore, saith the Lord, I will surely avenge them, and receive unto me all the innocent blood from among them.”

Food, Water, Shelter. The utmost basic needs. Water security is at risk, food security is at risk. Well... at least we have all these sub divisions along with the added infrastructure to all of that, on what was farmland in many areas of the U.S. Where I am on my 40 acres of agricultural land, I'm only permitted to irrigate 1 acre. However, I can water as much livestock as I want. Our water laws make as much sense as a monkey picking it's butt to organize it's thoughts - while on an acid trip, no less. All farmers can do better with the modern technologies available like, drip irrigation, however, the government water laws, politicians and regulators can't pull their collective heads out their nether regions, here the southwest, to make such options available.

Food has been a Geopolitical issue for thousands of years. Especially in Europe during the industrial revolution until the 1950's when petrol fertilizer increased yields. The only reason the people in the Western Hemisphere were not aware of it until now was because this Hemisphere was not as dense as the other Hemisphere and had more arable land -- until now of course Russia in the last 1000 owned the Ukraine most of that period, and they did use it for exactly the reason the video says. The Russian Soviet was not happy when the Ukraine Soviet broke away and became another country late in the last century.

All of us card carrying humanists (myself included) generally like to think that it is a right to have clean water and air, a place to lay ones head at night, food, health care etc. What if the delivery of those commodities is not in fact something that can be given, improved or guaranteed on an abused and overdrawn planet? Exploitation is the name of the game whether it offends the sensibilities or not. As long as I value my status and ability to command ease such as flicking a switch or turning on the tap, I can never really know what goes into making the sausage of modern life. The meals have stopped already for much of the natural world. Can we humanists really continue to place ourselves on the pedestal that states that being a good person means treating other people well while abusing the rest of creation?

They'll get behind a little regulation if you fear monger a little bit about foreign corporations, but forget about the foreign corporations that own U.S. companies. Or the U.S. based companies that are international and working against our best interest as U.S. citizens.

Why we can’t talk about controlled birth is beyond me; nah let’s allow millions to live below poverty be exploited for cheap labor or ignored while they and thier children starve to death generation after generation, meanwhile let’s artificially sustain the unsustainable > existing is not living sadly we’ve interfered with nature and our own evolution…here we are in a big sinking ship due to compassion, completely defying logic< that thing about humans that makes us better than animals? 😢

There is a shortage… I guess there is a lot you don’t realize about how much we are consuming and the land not being able to keep up with the demand… plus we have a lot of food waste. As a person that lives in middle of nowhere Texas where I am literally living right by oil wells and cattle grazing land and not far from farms and talking to farmers and knowing a lot about the land, yeah there is an issue. You got water pollution, you got issues with land no longer being able to be used for farming for xyz reasons and we are having to use so many fertilizers and pesticides to make growth happen, which also contributes to water pollution. Like I said, I live right by oil wells and I see cattle grazing around me some days. What the cattle is eating out here, even though they try to keep the cattle away from our oil pads, I would gather is just not that healthy. The air out here im sure is not that healthy. You got the skunky smell of chemicals used to kill H2S in affected oil wells, or straight up rotten egg smell from dirty wells, you got the smells coming from the flaring of gas. You have new wells being drilled all over the land and our land is just suffering… we are consuming and consuming and doing irreparable damage to the land to where the land may not be able to give us life anymore. I agree with growing our own food as it would help ease a burden but we got issues and they are going to affect everyone.

@gingerc5292 Although I agree with you and gave your comment a "thumb up" endorsement, it has long been our American "lawmakers" who have transferred the political power of the American People to the vast moneyed interests of the world. Even though there is no US Constitutional basis for this Duopoly Political Party control over ALL American elections, THEY MOST CERTAINLY DO! Then the question becomes: Who controls them? Through the laughably misnomered legislation entitled "Campaign Reform," they invented Dark Money PAC's. And the private non-profit corporations that control both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, the DNC and the RNC, have no obligation whatsoever to disclose the identities of these worldwide massive moneyed interests WHO MOST CERTAINLY "CONTRIBUTE" TO CAMPAIGN FINANCING IN THE GOOD OL' US of A! And that's even though the federal law is still "on the books" prohibiting ANY foreign person or power from contributing even "one red cent" to ANY American election - even if it's for the local dog catcher!

Water, coffee, nutritional perishable food is as valuable as diamonds, rubies, pearls, gas, oil, john deere heavy equipment. It takes 5000 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. It is a fact that meat production is a huge user of water while the plants being raised and fed to cows can be directly fed to humans in the form of whatever. I have been vegan for 30 years, I know it's not popular, but so is running out of water not a popular idea. People don't want to change. Many many intellectuals have seen this coming, Ernest Lazlo, for example, said instead of competition we need to cooperate and communicate, I see that we are not doing that and without doing that we probably will not survive as a species. Hard realities. In nature it is those species who do cooperate with each other, and adapt, who survive. BTW many restuarants now feature bean burgers and such, they are just fine, delicious actually, I prefer them to the "fake" meats, but each to his own. I just know without personal sacrifices we are probably in dire trouble --alternatives, however, are intrinsically of a higher order.
