One of the biggest issues with SBMM is grouping. I have a friend who is average at fps games, whereas I am above average. He would be fine when playing CoD by himself, but when I joined it took our average, which meant I was slicing right through the enemy team easily while he was getting frustrated from dying to them too much. We are liking xDefiant better, as I still occasionally get a good challenge from a high skilled player, and he can still get kills on other average players. Are the teams sometimes heavily imbalanced? Sure, but overall it feels better than the SBMM experience.

Average players and above average players shouldn't be in one lobby, it's like expecting 3 good players with a bad player in team to win against 4 good players, i mean it's possible if they are lucky, but, you can tell if a player is good by how lucky he is?

I did not enjoy shooter game like this since CoD BO3/BO4 era. Consistently doing well(with some exception here and there), having fun, playing with input based MM turned ON so no rotational AA players melting me with their 90-100% accuracy like in every CoD killcam. Deffinitely feels lower budget compared to something like CoD, yet it does everything I hate about CoD right (devs communicating, listening and admitting/reverting mistakes, no SBMM, input based MM as option, no yearly release where all grind and money spent are irelevant so soon). I feel like 17yo boy again playing this game, while all I feel while playing CoD is neglect, frustration, manipulation and rage.

A lot of lies... People play casual because they want to have fun, not to be better in ranked. To be better in ranked, you have to play only against good players... The lack of SBMM or EBMM makes the game more fun for good players because they can bully worse players and less fun for people that have no time for playing... SBMM is useless for ranked. If there is 8 players in one game with the same skill level, no one deserves a higher rank unless SBMM will make a mistake and there will be one better player. If there will be SBMM in ranked, it will mean that the rank of a player is determined only by the luck, this is not what we want.

Although Xdefiant doesn't have "SBMM" it does have skill based balancing once a lobby is created. Who joins a lobby is random, but after the lobby is created it balances the teams based on ELO. If you are a very high ELO player, your team mates will be low ELO players, and your opponents will be tougher. It's basically the same thing as SBMM but the pool of players being balanced is smaller (just the size of the lobby). I have a high skill rating and every match my teammates are mouth droolers who have toes as thumbs. Call it what you want, but Xdefiant has sbmm, just on a smaller scale.

Team balancing is how most FPS games used to be, especially games like Cod unti 2019. Even Battlefield still uses team balancing at the end of each round.

you cannot compare sbmm and team balancing from a design standpoint, go sink 2000 hours into apex legends or a modern cod game and you will understand the effect that it has on the average players experience, they are entirely different mechanics

I'm probably one of the few that actually likes a certain degree of SBMM. I'm in my mid 30s, so my reflexes are starting to slow down, and I've always been visually impaired, with less-than-stellar eye-hand coordination because of it. That doesn't stop me from playing multiplayer/online FPS games, but it's not what I call fun getting stomped in every match because I'm at a natural disadvantage that I can't really do anything about.

When you first get into the game that has no SBMM, you may constantly get wrecked by that one sweaty high-skill player in every lobby. Sure, it may be frustrating at times, but it gives you a sense of challenge, competitive spirit to grow and achieve. And then later on, when you adapt to the game mechanics, you finally begin to wreck high-skilled players yourself and it feels so good. That one pit of frustration and then a leap of satisfaction is what kept me in FPS games in the first place.

SBMM is just far too calculated and lifeless. It just removes all ups and downs from playing a game since it both denies a player the most dominating victories and most crushing defeats. At the end of 100 rounds, almost all of them will have been average and replaceable. Or just "mid" as kids say these days. On the other hand, in a more traditional system, you will have made a lot of fun memories to look back upon that will keep pulling you into the game even years later. You will have cursed other players and been cursed by the enemy, but you sure were not just bored. It also really messes with your ability to learn from and teach other players. If everyone is at the same skill level then nobody learns any new tricks.

xdefiant getting glazed pretty hard, its an average (at best) shooter with no sbmm, thats it. the only comp to cod in the 6v6 space (which is pretty dead anyways) and the only selling point is no sbmm. mouse input feels weird, abilities are annoying, most people in oce dripping in sweat, snipers op (flinch barely made any difference) people still jumping around like rabbits, netcode is rubbish etc. maybe i'm just a hater but all this love for xdefiant seems a bit overdone imo.

@@MalikATL actually, you couldnt be further from the truth, i dont play cod and i am good enough at xdefiant when i am not facing streamers. i know its hard to believe for some people but its not ALWAYS a skill issue, sometimes, the game is just mid.

Game is over hyped tbh. Gameplay is just bootleg Black Ops 4.. This game only has the hype it does cause of no SBMM, otherwise it's just another bland hero shooter. XDefiant is just not fun, I'm just not a hero shooter fan. I just want a game that is basic and fun as Black Ops 1, when can we get that?

I agree. I also have a lot of fun in this game though. It seems the "Hero Shooter" genre is the only other option to combat the overwhelming "Killstreak Reward" system that scared me from playing newer CoD titles. I loved MW1 - BO1 though. I think both franchises are great, have pros and cons, and have different audiences. One of my biggest arguments is the absence of SBMM allows the ability to "get gud" or build skills and talents and feel improvement and progress

I still just don't think SBMM is the big issue. IMO, the real issue is the change in mindset of a huge portion of the community. The thing I hate about SBMM isn't that my matches suck, its that every single team I get on after learning a game has at least one screaming, idiot streamer expecting his team to carry him to fame. COD MW and Halo 3 had SBMM, it was fine, because we were there to scream at our friends and insult strangers Moms while teabagging people, not get rich and famous. The idiot kid on your BF2 team that got mad at you for not playing right never had an army of stream followers to report bomb you in game and get you banned for telling him to suck a dick. SBMM didnt turn every lobby in every game into the toxic shitfire of a LoL comp lobby, WE did that shit, by turning playing a video game angry into a carrier kids want.
