Hearing Fuzzy wants to see more push towards diversity and experimentation within the scene is a very encouraging thing to hear as a person who plays relatively niche weapons The community has always been incredibly meta focused, so playing something not meta can often be discouraging Hearing a top level player say, “Yeah, keep playing what you’re playing, keep pushing it, maybe one day it will be meta and you’ll be so much further than everyone” else truly means and helps a lot

I started playing Undercover from day 1 hoping that the amount of practice on the weapon would help when it got a good kit. Unfortunately we’re a year in and we don’t have that 2nd kit but I do love Vunder.

The point about splash versatility is really why it was/is such a problem. We’ve definitely had metas where one weapon was dominant in its role. Outside of splash in S3, I can’t think of a time when a weapon was simultaneously a top 3 frontline option, a top 3 support option, and a top 3 backline option.

@@christopherpetit1718 a play style and build focused on spamming burst bombs and crab tanks can not only effectively serve as an anchor role for a team by a player who isn’t as skilled/comfortable with chargers or splatlings, but even top charger and splatling players were dropping their mains to do this.

@@christopherpetit1718 backline players flexed to splash a lot in the earlier metas, they would sub spam, farm crab, and provide jumps to their team -- the latter of which especially fills in the concept of "anchor" when backlining. their number 1 goal was to stay alive.

I have 3 pures of every single gear ability and still got around 100 leftover chunks on all abilities. Been playing SR on almost every rotation until 1200, opening daily 5K capsules, and that's about it.

The flexibility in moment to moment play is one of the reasons why I've fallen so in love with the Tri-stringer. Sometimes your going for those oneshots, sometimes spamming the field with the more spread out single charge volleys is what you find yourself doing. It can even skirmish a bit when forced to.

I tried shooters, chargers, splatlings, rollers and blasters, etc. Out of every class in any Splatoon game, I'm good with rollers, so I usually stick with those (I was a shooter main in 1 and 2, but still). As for my preferred roller, it's the vanilla Splat Roller because of its versatility; the curling bombs allow the user to be a frontline player and the bubbler allows for either defense or offense depending on the play style. If I need some longer range, I switch over to the Flingza; it also helps that the tenta missiles it comes with can either splat enemy players by surprise or force them to abandon crucial defensive positions. For really aggressive plays, the Carbon Roller Deco works for me since it swings fast and, when used in conjunction with burst bombs, quickly two-shots enemy players every time I land those hits. It never hurts to switch weapons every now and then, even within your preferred class of weapons. That being said, this interview convinced me to experiment with sloshers once more.

i appreciate your love for one tricks! both my best friend and i are one tricks (she's dapple dualies and i'm splattershot nova), and while we can deal with other weapons (for example in the first two games i was a pretty avid roller main), we always go back to our one favorite at the end of the day ❤ edit: to clarify, i did not pick up the nova for its jetpack. i picked it 10 months ago back when i was a casual player, because inkjet was fun and the weapon had good range

I'll be honest, as someone who's been (not solely, but mostly) maining the Gray Nzap since Splatoon 2 I'm actually quite happy to see it back in the meta as Cooler was definitely something I had to get used to it having now in Splatoon 3, so when I kept seeing it not being seen as a valuable special I was starting to get a bit discouraged about continuing with using zap for those games when I wanted to put my best forward, in other words I agree with what Pkfuzzy said about you never knowing when your favorite/best weapon will become a meta pick so you shouldn't give up on it completely if you feel it has the potential.

I'm not a professional player by any regard, in fact I basically don't play splatoon due to latency issues, but one bit of advice I will give. If you're like me and always change weapons all the time, sticking with one weapon for entire play sessions might be a game changer for you. I've got ADHD. If I'm playing a game with multiple weapon choices, I tend to swap between them constantly. And while I know, on an intellectual level, that sticking with one weapon will make you learn that weapon faster, it didn't really click for me on a subconscious level. But a couple of days ago while playing Monster Hunter I decided to counter my natural urge to swap weapons constantly and force myself to use one weapon for entire play sessions, and the level of improvement I saw in my play was massive. So if you're like me and you swap weapons basically every match. Try using one weapon for the whole play session. No obligation to stick with it outside of that, but keep using it for a whole session or at least a big chunk of matches in a row rather than swapping immediately. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Regarding Kits being less important, this means that beacons, which pair very well with aggressive comps and tacticoolers, are very strong in this meta.

It's always fine to take a break from a weapon for a bit if you're just not in the mode to play it, especially with this games kits it might be good to detox with a weapon where you can fall back on other stuff besides your skill with the main (I just got done with a squiffer break, the fun of the main can only supercede the constant skill floor requirement the kit causes for so long)

I'd recommend trying out one of every-other class, or if you have the time, trial one from every class. Or, if you like a particular "role", try out more weapons like that, or switch to a completely different one, i.e. From backline to slayer for a few matches- (This is from someone who just left a main weapon crisis, hope it helps!)

I had the same issue until I tried out the Custom Dualie Squelchers. I rarely played Dualie Squelchers prior, but for some reason, it just worked for me. I don't know why.

@@softy5447yeah I took a break from mini for a bit (mostly just ultra stamp) and used heavy deco for a while. Breaks can be helpful to keep people from getting burnt out on the game or the specific weapon.

I know some others have already given you advice, but here's mine anyway. I go by way of classification: Step 1) Try out the basic weapon for each class (VSplattershot, VRoller, VCharger, etc.). This would help discover which class of weapons you love to use and/or are good with. Step 2) Try out the weapons for each playstyle. Now you'll know which style and position suits you whether it be frontliner, midliner, or backliner. Step 3) Try out the rest of the weapons that fit your playstyle. Now you'll find which specific weapon is your best and/or favourite! Then if you ever find yourself at a dead end with the current weapon, you could try doing this again. This certainly comes with its limitations but it's just my way of discovering new weapons that I enjoy playing

I feel like one-trick is such a vapid term. sure it's not good to *only* know how to play one weapon, but if you truly achieve mastery with one select weapon, there's no issue with that. this is coming from someone who's played carbon and splash since 1, along with stamper, mini, and rapid blaster.

Yeah I sucked while trying to play splash lol (somehow). Turns out I was just meant for splatlings because I enjoy the overstimulation of managing a charge. Idk it makes me feel useful and helps me notice more things.

Uh good luck with that. I also do not always stick to my main as I would get burnt out easily due to the stamp ):( (v mini main). Just try stuff and see what works, it’s more about the skill set of the player than the weapon. You’re not going to win everything just because a weapon is good nor the fact that you like it. Hell I’ve gone on losing streaks with my main but I still come back because I enjoy it.

hot take : inkjet kinda still sucks, i mean, like it’s just a blaster without the mid air aoeand more range , it can’t paint, and you have a bigger hit box, and your movement is very slow and predictable. like after the boost it has like a 3 sec cooldown so you can just push it then shoot it down. i understand how it did get better but it’s definitely not the best in the game, i think crab and booyah are on top. (pls don’t hate me chara)

Individually, yes, inkjet has glaring weaknesses. Except, in a team situation, where all players are aware of when and where an inkjet on their team is going to deploy, it becomes incredibly insane to deal with. Looking at the inkjet? Bet you didn't notice the Splash rushing you. Ignoring the inkjet? Splash hit you with a burst bomb and now you just got comboed from the inkjet. Playing a short range weapon? Sorry buddy, the Inkjet jumped a SINGLE TIME and now you cannot reach them at all. In solo, it's not a top 1 special, but in a team environment, it's pushing power is ABSURD. Your opinion is understandable, though.

also, with inkjet you can go into squid form for another dodge option so it’s much harder to predict when it can shrink it’s hit box if it wants

Can anyone help me? I've been stuck in S for a very long time. However, I don't think its really my fault. Almost every game I will consistently outperform my teammates and play for the objective, while also filling my role as a support weapon(n-zap 85). However, I always seem to lose my games. The enemy team always just outperforms my team. Is this my fault or am I just really unlucky?

I'd say a mixture honestly. I also dont think it's anyones "fault" , it's just hard to coordinate in Series games so everyone is doing their own tactic and expecting everyone else to follow in congruence with it with no communication. I'm in X rank and getting out of S got easy once I only played in gamemodes I was strong in and really enjoyed. Try focusing on a consistent issue you're having and try to solve it. For example, I love splat zones, but in S people almost NEVER ink the zone or pay attention to it as much as you're supposed to, So i would straight up just keep focusing on painting the zone the entire time and killing people that get near while my teammates did whatever. If you're having the opposite issue, like no one will go push forward to keep the enemies away, then do that. Essentially focus on taking any responsibility that you see the people around you not doing! Look for holes in what you want to happen and fill them, dont expect randos to do it because they're not reading your mind. It gets easier in S+ rank and beyond to coordinate because people r generally just more educated and pay attention to what might be helpful for what their teammates are doing. This isnt to say you'll win every game like this or you have to carry your entire team on your back, obviously you cant do EVERYTHING thats needed sometimes. sometimes your teammates will not work together at all and its granted when you cant say anything but "this way " and " booyah" ! good luck.

@@ridleyrolo Thank you so much for your advice! Yeah, I noticed the games go a lot easier when I'm playing with someone else, communicating makes the game a lot easier. I'll also take into account what you said about filling in the gaps that my teammates can't cover.
