omg, i literally have the exact same experience with reading. I've always wanted to be a book person but i find the action of reading difficult and exhausting. I've come to learn it's due to my neurodiversity, and my brain splits it just like you said: i can read or i can comprehend. As i've gotten older i've learned to be more gracious with myself, and understand that I can be intelligent and enjoy stories without necessarily having to be a book person. I think also it's understanding that I can teach myself to do anything, but I just have to approach it in a way that works WITH my brain. Also, i tell my friends all the time about checking their inner dialogue, and the power of that. I'm glad you're having this conversation with yourself, the awareness is the first step towards evolving your point of view
