THE FIRST 45 seconds ALONE is one of the best intros to a step routine I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! PERIOD, POINT BLANK! The whole "Kill Bill" asylum thing was verrrry creative, who expects to see AKA'S rolling around on the floor, and doing hoisting each other up like cheerleaders? I LOVED IT! Because they didn't do what is normally expected from them. I WISH MY KAPPA BROTHERS COULD TAKE A NOTE FROM THIS. For one time only, I wish I could see a routine MINUS THE KANES. Everyone expects us to use them!
I was there in person. The vids dont do the show justice. The ladies of AKA really showed up and showed out. I was thoroughly impressed and Ive never seen AKAs step so hard and so well. I loved the theme and when they did the scene from my fave scene of my fave movie....I was too undone. I love my D-S-T...but their win was well deserved and I will always give props where props are due. They definitely tore it up. Good job ladies! DST Diva
Agree with you NJNupe 1911 (from 11 months ago). No one should die pledging. It is not that serious! I went to Howard, so I give props to all these groups.
Just as an FYI--AKAs stepped in 01, 02, 05 (and their 2nd place finish is debatable), 06, 07, 09. Hopefully, there will be able to be more consistent participation. Especially since everyone really comes to see who will prevail--the AKAs or the Deltas...
Well I was there, and I MUST say great show!! Even though I favor the women of DST, The AKAs did just what the girl on the video said...SHOWED OUT!! The win was much deserved. They had me laughing and bopping at the same time w/that choreography...I just wish I could have recorded it myself!!
This is bull because it's okay for the Deltas to outright fry the AKAs the last few years but because the AKAs got tired and they came back this year......yall hating!!! Please let them have this one because I'm sure next year is gonna be awesome...........again Alpha Chapter congrats!!!
I AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT. I'm really getting sick of people screaming PAPER as a way to demean a person or chapter. WHO CARES IF SOMEONE STUDIDED, TOOK THE TEST, AND WAS ALLOWED INTAKE? Nowadays that is the SAFEST WAY FOR PEOPLE TO GET INTO OUR ORGANIZATIONS NOW! A young man from Prarie View who was online for Sigma JUST DIED PLEDGING!!! ALL FOR THE SAKE OF NOT BEING VIEWED AS PAPER! AS LONG YOU DEDICATE YOURSELF TO THE GOALS OF YOUR ORGANIZATION PAPER OR NOT YOU ARE FINE WITH ME!
I love this.....the Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha definitely ain't playing games......so honestly DST might want to step up the game next year. Plus the AKAs are probably planning for next year already
@bfree2live If you look closely, those are the type of heels that my mother would wear because they are more stable for the ankles. But, over all they did a great job!!
Good job sorors! Congrats on the win! I have one question though? A friend of mine just told me that he heard the Beta Alphas where suspended from Howard. Is this true? Can someone tell me why and how long? Peace....
this is a good show. I need to watch Part II (if I can find it), but I would say that it seems a bit 'choppy' so far. Not enough of a balance between stepping and showing small step/dance 'snippets.' Good steppng and performance, but slightly fragmented.
CGrantol, Being proud of yourself and your organization is cool, but be honest, the AKAs won because they had the best show this year. Two parts diss, the rest class, style, entertainment, creativity, energy and precision.
@27bosslady: Thanks for the points of clarification....I just know on my camera I see a bunch of colors being less than cordial....lol. I didnt say it was the HU AKAs or SGRhos...but I know what I have on tape and it doesnt lie. @Bison: The shows Ive seen are alot less intense. The themes are usually very cookie cutter. i.e. The UMCP AKAs did a Fairly Toyland. I really liked this show bc they were entertaining and actually stepping. I also appreciated that they stuck with the theme.
Definitely have to agree with foruchocoholics, not much stepping going on at all. Step shows have begun to turn in to SHOWS without stepping....so whoever can perform better and get the crowd hyped the most seems to win. Good judges would site that.
@bisonlady: Well, i do see what she may have been saying....they did step hard which is atypical for any AKA shows that I've seen *note I said "that I'VE seen"....Yea, we saw them...Im not sure how ladylike fighting the SGRhos was but that's neither here nor there....
Sign papers as in skatting or not pledging like the rest of the other sorrorities. You know exactly what I am talking about and this goes to all the skatters. There is nothing wrong with signing papers to be honest. Be proud of it. If your chapter does not sign papers, then good for you, but let me make it clear to you that many chapters do not participate in "pledging" or "hazing", which is good, My point was that I would rather much sign than get my ass whooped.
Never used the term "haters"...just commenting on the listing of Delta wins (including shows outside of HU Homecoming). No feelings were caught, and as you said we can agree to disagree. As mentioned below, I think the HU Deltas are strong competitors and have had great shows, I just don't think I would have listed a competitors wins under one of their videos. That's it : )
LOL @ MsPearlsandIvy: Dont worry they did enough primping, posing, and hair flipping after the show on the side of the stage and on stage to make up for anything you'd consider "unladylike" in their show....that stuff doesnt entertain, enthrall or win shows...however, what they did in their show does! There's a time and place for the prissiness (IMO) Your Sorors did an excellent job, you should be proud of them. Really.
Hold up, who gives a fuck if people sign papers or not? Should that really matter? Hell I rather signed papers than get my ass whopped for "respect". Respect my asses shit!!! They did really good!!!
It was a good show. But in GENERAL I think female step teams are judged more favorably on costume, theatrics, and themes. Seems to be more common that winning female teams have that going. And that winning male teams might have a tight theme, but definitely some serious steps & stunts.
some folks are really mad... consistency is not coming in 3rd place...EVER...but what do I know? #kanyeshrug YOU (bisonhoney22) seem to know ALL the Delta wins...just comment on the DELTA's video...*just for consistency* *side eye*
@leeu9-- You're very funny...this 'paper' chapter wins national step shows, has been chapter of the year on campus and in the Region, continually has the highest GPA in the region and its members continually dominate campus activities...Perhaps YOUR primary concern is stepping and your lack of understanding of a real 'pledge' process; but THIS chapter can handle it all AND hold it down.
The AKAs did not FIGHT the SGRhos...The SGRhos were a little upset about something, maybe being SGRHos, I dont know, They got "Crunk" by themselves...and the Alphas separated the AKAs and the SGRhos...now what happened between the Alphas (Non Beta Chapter) and the SGRhos (Not howard SGRhos either) I cant call it...but I am sure I got the AKA and SGRro confusion right ;-)(Howard University Greeks have more class and tact than that...we know each other and we are always cordial)
Who won the show??? I have judged several shows and I think this show had too much going on. They didn't step the entire show. TOO Much music. THe dissing was O.K. TOo much like cheerleaders in the beginning. However, the crowd was all for the AKAs. Good show ladies for that campus.
If that were true, you would have come in 2nd place, not last...grow up. No one cut your mics. Technical difficulties happen all the time--musics not right, video does start on time, sound system sucks...a great show can overcome that.
