Very interesting video. Lester, Howard and Sam were the “go-to” society band leaders. Lester’s organization is apparently still in business providing music for “upper crust” events.
I'm wondering who the Trumpet player is-I notice his Trumpet (I think it's a Conn model of some sort-can't tell for sure-) has the Bb/A attachment slide to change key-incidentally, this is early 1930 and it was only two years prior that Louis Armstrong made the switch from Bb Cornet to Bb Trumpet (thank GOD!!!) and Trumpet players everywhere quickly followed suit. At this period, there were only a handful of Trumpet influences (King Oliver, Satch, Bix Beiderbecke, Bunk Johnson, Red Nichols (who got his start w Lanin) & Freddy Kirkland were about it at this stage). Lanin's organization was based out of Philly, I think. Man, listening to this, it's crazy to think that 6 years later Goodman would usher in the "Swing" era and in 14 years (1944) Be-Bop would come in, then the combo groups, Rock N Roll, Rock, Jazz/Rock Fusion, and beyond.
I remember seeing a longer version of this where they played another song. I really loved that clip but now I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone else know what happened to it?
fhhjjk yfvvhjj it used to be posted on Aaron1912 channel but he left. The other song was “Thinking of You”, I have the full unedited video if you would like me to send it!!
@@marceloruanova3343I recall a longer clip with Cole Porter songs and more close up shots of guests. I always wanted to jump into that footage and not come back.
