We could ALL use a good dose of Pauly Shore right now ... and the fact that he took this project seriously, and handled it with class and good taste throughout ... I'm sold. I hope Richard Simmons comes to appreciate how much he is being celebrated and admired. He is a legend.
Watch the short. It does exactly what you said he needed to. Pauly does a serious job of playing Richard Simmons - the drama, humor and energy are there.
He did not make a joke out of Richard Simmons at all. He definitely captured that truly bizarre behavior that has made Richard Simmons so endearing. We love that kook. He's one of the nicest people to ever exist and he'll blow your mind with harmless, wacky, fun behavior. Pauly isn't Richard but he did it right. It was very respectful. It's worth watching.
I have never been a big fan of Pauly. But after watching the short, I have to say, this could be an Oscar nomination if this goes full silver screen. Pauly literally becomes Richard, that 'role of a lifetime' as such.
Pauly deserves an Oscar for the short film. He did a phenomenal job. He nailed the character of Richard Simmons and delivered a hart felt message at the same time. Loved it!
I was blown away and emotionally felt his performance has Richard Simmons. That’s literally kinda feeling Richard Simmons gives you whenever you watch him. So that’s showing you just how talented Pauly shore really is. I hope to see the movie, cuz I’m 100% invested in it from the short court jester film.
@@drinkingpoolwatershe probably didn’t eat as much watching him. So maybe she didn’t lose any weight but she gained less than she would have. Who knows? Why do you care?
Dude you are the only one that can pull this off bro. I just want to thank you for bringing Richard's name back into the public's eye. He was everywhere you looked most of my life, then nothing. I thought Richard was dead TBH until I saw your short. I for one am glad he is alive, and I also want him to be happy and if staying out of the lime life is what he wants then fine. We don't have to bother the man to honor the man. Just Sayin...
Honor the man that asked to left alone by not leaving him alone. Make a goofy movie with a title that treats him as a joke. Alright then, sounds like a plan.
@@mszuzubookitty4646 Yeah, I didn't like the title either until I watched the whole thing. Apparently you didn't watch the nearly 10 minute video. At the 8 :41 mark, Richard is dancing away as the young man picks up the business card that Richard left lying on the floor for him, and it says, 'Your Court Jester'. That was what RICHARD had written on the card, so Pauly wasn't making fun of Richard; he was quoting him. I watched Pauly talk about making the life story about Richard, and it was all about HONORING him.
Pauly has always had the same energy as Richard. Both very positive, uplifting people. I loved the short! I hope Richard could embrace this and not see it as being mean or making fun. ❤
The court jester was a very well paid job in Medieval times. Few got to go entertain & make the king & court laugh. They received money ,good food ,and a dry warm place to sleep. If you did your job well you lived in a castle for your entire live, few got that option.
@@mszuzubookitty4646 they are using Court Jester as a positive narrative, Richard Simmons is our, the world's positive light! There is no meanness in this film, it is done out of love for a very beloved person we grew up with. All Richard and Pauly have ever done was try to make us laugh, bring self love and spread joy to everyone!
You're right, I never thought of it that way! I loved Pauly in the 80s on MTV then in movies. He's very genuine & silly in the best way & I think he'd take the role very seriously.
While I get it would be upsetting for Simmons to not be a part of the short at least, Pauly did a great job in it and really nailed Simmons overall kindness. To me the short was about a kind man in his endless pursuit to help people, whether it be physically, emotionally, or psychologically. I think he nailed it from what I remember of Richard Simmons
Wonder what broke Richard Simmons' positive light, he is needed. He probably saw how nasty Hollywood is and said nope. Pauly Shore is a great actor and can do a great job bringing Richard Simmons' great vibe.
If your mom had a Richard Simons Workout VHS tape in your house as a kid raise your hand! ✋ I would definitely go see it too, hoping it's somewhere between the Weird Al movie on Roku and Barbie movie. It should be weird, but fun weird!
i watched it the other day, and it was wonderfully done. i'm sure if Mr. Simmons could see it, he would be surprised, and maybe come around. i appreciate he doesn't want anything to do with the spotlight, but, it was done tastefully and respectfully. here's to hoping it goes further.
I loved. Richard as a little girl. I remember mimicking all the moves. He was just positive energy and influential. And this was way before the oldies tapes he did. You couldn't help but love him. Pauly definitely looks like him and embodies that same positive energy. I could see it working
I went on a cruise with Richard…one of the sweetest guys I have ever met….kind to everyone. I will defend him, and his choices! He deserves peace…he helped so many of us! Also Pauly needs to lose some weight to play him accurately!
@mszuzubookitty4646 the short was almost as good as barbie which somehow got any nominations lol point being oscars dont mean fuck all anymore and havent for ages. Half the movies that win get forgotten anyway and sometimes the best movies from the time dont even do well (willy wonka with gene wilder for instance)
I think it should be 80% drama and 20% comedy with a heavy and endearing ending I love Pauly but the goofy shtick should mostly be set aside if he wants to earn an Oscar for a film like this - as much as Richard was extreme and goofy, there’s a very deep and emotional side to him that the short film depicts and a full 90-110 minute movie would do best focusing heavily on that part of his persona You got this Pauly - we all stand behind you 🔥
Pauly looks the part, but Richard was one of a kind. Such a positive guy. Shore could never truly act like Simmons. Richard was like the twinkle version of Arnold really, in that he just loved people and interacting with them.
That was the shtick. He'd run in unannounced while signing and it would be nonstop mayhem and then right on cue Richard would "storm out" in "tears". 😂
Saw the film....Shore was very good as Simmons. That being said, he MIGHT get a nomination, but it wasn't an Oscar winning performance. Fraser in The Whale portrayed a very emotionally and complex gay character dealing with the estrangement of his daughter and the death of his lover. Quan in Everything Everywhere all at Once was adequate UNTIL he became the debonair version of himself from another reality. That believable juxtaposition (it took me a second to register that it was Quan!) is what earned him the Oscar. He WAS a different person. It would take more than just a very good impression of Simmons (which he did) to win Shore an Oscar even though the Academy loves biopics. Glad to see Shore working again.
A Richard SImmons bio-pic is what we need! Richard is part of 80s culture and deserves to be recognized for his contributions to the fitness industry. At the very least, look at some of the steaming piles of dung that Hollywood has made, and remade!
I'm not buying that EVERYBODY thinks Pauly Shore is so incredible. I'll never forget the interview where he cries about life is so sad for him; he's shocked he's no longer on billboards. F Pauly and F Timmy too
We want Richard back, and I get that he wants to live his life out in peace, he deserves that. But I hope yall can work it out so everyone can be happy and we can have a little more Richard and Pauly.
I love Pauly Shore in ''The Court Jester'' and after seeing the short film, I can't imagine anyone else in this role as Richard Simmons. I thought his voice, mannerisms, and body language all were completely on point in this role as Pauly was sincere in his character delivery, with his body language, voice, and character mannerisms. An added note, I majored in theater and studied Shakespeare my first two years at the University of Montana's in their intense theater program for my BFA with an Acting Emphasis. I did not detect one slight moment of insincerity in his choices. I can also tell he had fun with this role, which really is infectious to the audience watching and therefore enabling the audience to carry on that energy which makes the experience even more enjoyable. This short film brought tears to my eyes, really. Very well done. I haven't gone to an actual movie in theaters in years, but, if Pauly were to actually star in a full length film as Richard Simmons, if done as well as this short film, this would be one I'd go see. The only critique I have is he'd need a better wig or hair stylist for the full length film, to really take on Richard's perm/afro.
Hell yeah Pauly, I believe in you! At first I thought they were talking about him playing Gene Simmons and that was less likely as far as Oscar winning but as Richard, friggin Pauly, being an excellent comedian, can dial Richard in, also his proportions are more closely matching and he’s capable of playing outlandish fellas, god speed!
Why would you discuss this without seeing the short? It's really, really good on all levels. Very genuine performance, not mocking Richard whatsoever. It was very moving and so many people said it really touched them. Give it a look!
Thank you! You encapsulated the exact reasons why I did not like the short. Pauly is far too deadpan, far too serious to pull off Richard, even in his waning years. In the short, when they did the segment on "Ellen", Pauly looked like he found out his dog just died, but was contractually obligated to do the segment. Pauly is _blatantly_ making this movie about getting his Oscar because his "Encino Man" co-stars each got one. Pauly, they didn't get their Oscars _because_ they were in "Encino Man", but because they evolved their acting skills _beyond_ what they did in "Encino Man." I'm Team Richard on this one...there may be a facial resemblance, but that's where the similarity ends.
Pauly appears to pull off Simmons iconic persona and spirit spot on. Now if we could just find someone that can perfectly re-create Chris Farley's entire act spot on.
I watched it....I thought Pauly Shore did a brilliant "Pauly Shore" version of all of it. Pauly Shore is brilliant and I'm proud of him! I'll give him my "original Grammy Oscar MTV Bullshit Whatever Everyone Else Wants award" or whatever ya call it. ❤❤❤ y'all!!!! Be happy!!!!
I am 100% with Richard Simmons. Let that man live. If Pauly looked like Gene Simmons he would be pushing to make a Kiss movie. This is the most disingenuous think parading as wholesome I have seen in a long while.
I loved the short and would love to make a movie, they do all these bio pics, but Pauly looks and acts like his Doppelganger. I really hope they do it and Richards gives them his blessing if it means to keep his message hes always tried to promote, be good and love yourself and I believe they'd do just that. As an overweight kid growing up and putting on sweating to the oldies on vhs and no longer that obese fat kid, I would love to watch a full bio pic
I always thought Pauly would play a great Richard Simons for many years.Seriously!! They look and act similar in certain ways. I’d love to see a serious biopic of Richards life. He has been in a lot of our lives on tv and much more since childhood. Everyone in there 40s to 90s knows RS and his flamboyant personality plus helping millions with weight issues. I hope he embraces the idea and reach out to him if possible. Someone will eventually do a story of his interesting life, better if he’s involved in the process. Good luck Pauly.. love the silk tiny RS shorts.. classic!❤️
