Howard was never anti-establishment. That’s a common misconception. Howard never wanted to be anti-establishment he wanted to make the establishment more fair. Also, as people get older their mentality changes. This isn’t privy to Howard. This happens with most people. It’s the decade theory. Every decade starting when you’re born, you change. So when you’re 10. You don’t really care. When you’re 20, you care to rebel. You wanna go against the grain even if you don’t fully agree with every aspect of the other side you wanna start making your own decisions. You don’t wanna be told anything. By 30, your brain is fully developed. You should be building a brand by then. You start to realize the obligations you have in life. By 40 you start to realize just how short life is, and most stop caring to clown other people or pick at the little things. Like trying to rebel on every little thing like when you were an undeveloped 20. After 40, it’s downhill. But recently, we’ve added 10 years to this system. So back in the day most people were out their house fresh outta college at 20 or early 20s. Well, now the majority aren’t even leaving home n having kids until their 30s. Most people now don’t reach their peak career until early 40s. But Howard was never actually a TI-establishment. He saw value in going against the grain. He captured the hearts of the rebellious 20s. But the guy is in his 60s now I believe. Also, people get confused because they think he’s a righty. He’s not. He was always super liberal but his fans were mostly conservative Republicans. He only leans right SOCIALLY. And social politics is based solely on emotion and feelings. As he got older, like the rest of us, we eventually learn the difference between policy and social politics and how social politics is an at face value view. It has no depths it doesn’t explain why, only what is…..

The golden era of the stern show was definitely the Billy West years. That’s when the show was truly a comedy show. The show and what it truly was intended to be died for me when Jackie left. That’s when it stopped being a comedy show and focused way too on Howard himself. Artie kept the show on life support, and then it was officially dead after Artie.

Then the endless vacations and endless stories of luxury boats, luxury cars, parties, besties with celebrities. He completely became the person he would mock when he was starting out. That’s when I bailed out and haven’t missed it at all. Today from what I heard he is a Uber politically correct bitter old man trying to be relevant. The Stern show was at it's very peak when Jackie and Billy were there and I can explain why: On terrestrial radio you had the seven dirty words (George Carlin) that you could not say. This created a comedic tension that would force them to push the envelope, hard. That's where the funny stuff was. Jackie and Fred did most of the writing and they would come up with some real gems. Like when Billy did Nelson Mandela; that was hilarious. You could never do that today. Or Marge Schott. Now they can use whatever dirty words they want but it's not funny. The cackling laughter of Jackie is the missing ingredient. When contract talks broke down, they should've kept their powder dry. Eventually, Jackie would have accepted their offer. He said so. The others felt betrayed. Not Stern but Robin, Fred and Baba Booey.

Let this be a lesson to you in business, never trust anyone, expecially ones who are overly friendly and want to get to know you. All these guys are naive and Howard found their creativity and milked it. What's amazing to me is how they all love this cold blooded lizard. Howard has become the thing he used to make fun of

Furthermore, the decline of his show has ZERO to do with age and everything to do with content. No one will ever say the content from 2010 until now is their favorite. @mikestevenson576 2 года назад
@@jog8483 It's not just about nimble, it's about stamina, it's about desire to do it full out, all the time, and it's about being connected to the era. For sure none of those people were as good at 68 as they were at earlier points in their careers. Though all of them were exceptionally potent at 68 with the exception of Johnny, who was done at 66. The talk show hosts are good examples: Johnny, Dave, Jay, Conan all exited as legacy acts as opposed to the culturally influential figures they once were. And the physical does play a role. Johnny's fake teeth created a slur and his voice had degraded, Dave's voice was creaky, Jay developed an old guy slur in his monologues.

100% TRUE: In early Jan. of 1980, I was new PD of W-4, Detroit and I heard a scratchy cassette of Stern on WCCC-AM, Hartford. Used my birth name, DICK HUNGATE, then. Flew into Hartford w/my GM, Wally Clark, and met Howard @ Holiday Inn, downtown. He was making 14K (incredible, huh?) & we offered him 30K, which he JUMPED on. Howard started on mornings and afternoons were handled by Mark McKuen. I did middays and each day M-Fri. Stern & I had lunch at two at a veg. place in Detroit's Greektown area known as "The Old Parthenon". He had ZERO EFFING ACT, but I gave him tons & tons of time/rope to get his shit together. All this & more, the TRUE story of his career was written by Paul Colford, "King of All Media: the UNauthorized biography of H. Stern" and Howard was livid when the book came out the week before "P. Parts" the movie. He TOTALLY omitted me from his puff-piece AUTObiography, but everyone from Doug Podell of WRIF, Detroit to my former boss at 93.3 WMMR, Philly, Jeff Pollack to consultant Fred Jacobs ALL know this true version. After WWWW did a switch to country, I returned to Philly as PD of 94 WYSP and, ALSO not just bullcrap, there in early '81 I invented the Classic Rock format. Haven't spoken even one word with Stern since 1981.

Now Howard wants to be the friend of all those rich celebrity hypocrites and the WOKE political establishment. Howard is suffering from burn out and it is time to say goodbye. He did what every other person on radio does, gather an audience of a certain demographic, and sell that audience to advertisers. Doesn't matter if you're a shock jock, or televangelist. It's the same formula, and HS lost his original core audience when they grew up and didn't need him anymore. Along with that, the Internet can make anyone provocative and edgy. Say what you want about Howard, but he is one of the most loyal guys on the planet. The majority of the people who have worked there still do. Stuttering John went after the money, KC lost his mind, Shuli left on his own, I don't know the entire story with the HOWARDTV guys or NEWS guys, but businesses make cuts. It sucks, could've been handled better, but it happens. @@SerlingPictures - Howard loyal????Stop drinking the Kool-Aid - I agree about John going for the money - which anybody else would have done - Howard would have never paid John what he got at the Tonight show so I don't blame him for taking that job - Jackie however was an idiot - he should have known that he was never gonna make anywhere near what Howard made (it's his show for chris sikes) - should have know from the previous negotitions that he was not gonna make more than they were willing to give him. I think it was a combination of 2 things - he listened to his no talent wife who probably encourage him to hold out for more money & he actually thought Howard would never replace him - when he was replaced I know he was shocked - when he shouldn't have been. One of the biggest missteps in show business history. My problem with Howard and most people say this - he is notoriously cheap - Robin & Fred & Jackie for that matter should have been paid more - Robin & Fred accepted being underpaid - Jackie - right or wrong wanted to get paid more - too much more in my opinion but he was right about them being underpaid. Howard had the power to ensure his people were taken care of - he just didn't care to make sure that they did - he was always the boss until it came to paying his people decent pay (not over pay them - but more than they were getting) Everyone else outside of Garry are on the low scale of pay - getting paid by Siruis but no where near others in their positions are making - which Howard is okay with because he is severly overpaid from Sirius for 3 days of work.

These are the people who could keep him in his present status and also propel him further in the industry where he stands at the moment. But what about the folks who helped him get where he is today? Where is the gratitude for those who were in there early years besides Robin, Gary and Fred? They deserve respect too. Sadly, Howard is not as evolved as he thinks he is. When he remembers where he came from and those who helped him get where he is today, then and only then will he be redeemed. That would be the ultimate reunion if done for the right reasons.
