Oh yeah - wicked version of Pat Travers "Snortin' Whiskey, Drinking Cocaine". Greg tore it up for sure. His tone was killer. He had great sound for the Howe ll project. Greg Howe is so versatile and has had a great career. With Howe ll you can really see where he came from - and that is the school of King Edward himself. At this gig they tore up Light Up the Sky. The tone he gets with his Fender Strat and Fender rig is nice. He actually plays with a low level of gain and a lot of mid-range tones. Again, this dude clearly came from the Brown Sound EVH school of tone - which is a great, great place to come from... Great sound, great gig, great band and Greg is a great guy. Thanks for this posting...

it doesn't matter if one doesn't "blow it up"....real musicians (like the Howes) became musicians simply because they could not live without music. All the rest is literally the luck of the draw. JS Bach never made a cent for his music....Vivaldi died like a pauper....Mussorgsky too....I could give you tons of examples.

@@luigipati3815 Very true. I was playing in bands in the same scene. I was a teenage shred guitarist. It was a lot of fun even if most of the music sounded the same. Every now and then you'd hear a band like Howe II or Racer X but it was very rare.

They didn't blow up because Van Halen already existed. As soon as Greg started making his own original music, not only did he blow up, he became one of the most influential and inspirational guitar players of the last 2 decades.

@@danielhadida3915 100 percent truth!!!! I had the opportunity to see Greg and his brother play a show at this club called the "Cell Block" near Philadelphia in the early 90's. The club is no longer there but I left that show thinking "If these guys just drop the Van Halen act" they have the talent and vibe to make it out of the herd. However, back then everyone was trying to be the next Ratt, Van Halen or Motley Crue to get a record deal. It was the scene and what the industry wanted so I get it. Regardless, Greg Howe is an incredible musician and an even nicer person!! If you have the chance to check him out live please do so. You will not forget or regret it. I was there, too (student 1989/1990), did an interview of the brothers before the show since I was making a little money as a journalist for a French musician's magazine (the same year I also did people like Scott Henderson (a great fusion guitarist but a total asshole imho), Frank Gambale, Al di Meola, Jeff Berlin, Jennifer Batten (who got her record deal after I got her the cover story of the magazine (very underrated musician, she could litterally play anything)), Paul Gilbert (whom I spent a whole afternoon with in his apartment after he came back from Mr Big's first world tour), Bruce Bouillet, Joe Diorio, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Lee Ritenour, Gary Hoey... plus a few more I forgot. I remember walking behind MI's main building (that small street behind the Church of Scinetology) and bumping into Ritenour & Carlton who at the time were my favourite axemen and they burst into laughter when they saw my state of shock. Anyway, listening back to this show, I must say it hasn't aged that good, and Greg was so much more impressive throughout the 1990's (especially on his fifth album.... the one starting with "Howe about it"). But it definitely brings back great memories... and that was the end of an era, that's for sure !

Caught a Howe II performance way back (in what almost seems like the stone age). While waiting in line outside the venue you could tell a sound check was happening. I turned a nearby door handle...door was unlocked and I went in. Howe and the drummer were going through some of the most brain frying stuff I've ever heard. Got kicked out after about 10 minutes, but that shit sounded way better than what happened at the show (which was great) a couple hours later.

Greg Howe should be the guitarist for the EVH tribute show with Sammy Hager and Michael Anthony instead of Joe Satriani in my opinion. This guy has the correct "feel" and "vibe" in his hands. I'm just surprised how this guy wasn't as big as the other bands back it the day. I've always considered him a top tier guitar player. He's right up there with EVH, George Lynch, Nuno Bettencourt, Warren De Martini, etc. I like these musicians too, cause you can hear a little bit of grit and dirt in their playing. Not as clean as Satriani and Vai. I like Satriani and Vai as well, but it sounds more cleaned up and refined with their notes to my ears. Hard to explain.

It's simply one of the best pups out there for metal shredding. It's got a very rich sound to it, very warm and bright, full of harmonics, and it coil splits very well.

First time getting to see/hear more than one song from these guys. They are awesome players, but out of the four songs I’ve listened to so far, they just weren’t there. I bet they got a lot of respect, but they didn’t have much pf a chance if they didn’t step up the songwriting, which I guess they didn’t before they ended. Al Howe seems great, but he was way more screamy and growly than he needed to be and the incredible Greg Howe’s playing is just TOO busy here. The comparison to the Mighty VH I keep seeing about this band is more about the guitarist’s virtuosity, how animated they are, the number of guys in the band and the fact that the band is named after the brothers in the band. But the songs they’re playing..... Hey wait! Light Up The Sky! But they didn’t write that. Damn. What coulda been.

Greg's all said FENDER...and mine said STRAT. He sponcered the HM STRAT for Fender, and as a matter of fact I got one of mine through Greg, since he could go through Fender directly and get all the specifications met. For amps he used Fender Duel Showman 100 watt heads. They were converted from 6L6 tubes to EL34's with a mod done to the bass to give them more of a Mashall bottom end. My first time seeing Howe II (dumb name btw). Albert looks like he could be a good singer, he has a lot of style. But he is trying to do too much at once and doesnt hold a defined melody. He could have been good if he had gotten vocal training. fun fact: David Lee Roth got vocal training shortly before VH got signed (probably the reason they finally got signed after many years). Seeing them cover Light Up the Sky was interesting, probably the last VH song anyone would think of covering and they added to what I consider to be a filler tune for VH.
