This is quite a find from our archive! This is a rare solo acoustic performance by Howie Day when he was UNSIGNED!
He uses the line 6 DL-4 to create awesome loops at the end of the song, composing all of the parts of one of U2's most iconic songs live, one on top of another. (Jump to about the 4:00 minute mark to see the amazing live loop talent).

I used to see Howie play at the Bear Brew Pub in Orono Maine when I was in grad school. He was in high school, his mother would drive him to the bar and wait in the back while he played his set. At 16 or 17 years old he was performing like a seasoned pro, he would have the whole audience captivated. This video is very much like those earliest shows.

I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live around this time in his career and I will always remember that show. He opened up for Tori Amos and the whole ride home my friends and I kept talking about Howie and how badly we wanted to see him live again. We got to meet him briefly after the show and he was a very humble and quiet guy. I consider that one of the best live shows I have ever attended to this day.

I saw Howie @Canes in San Diego back in the summer of '01 and he was amazing...probably 75 people in the bar and him alone on the stage..the guy has some serious talent!!!

Both can do this song very well. Howie has an angel's voice, and he was younger than Bono when he performed One. Merit goes to both Bono and Howie, but I have to agree that the latter blew the former out of the water - at least this time.
