Love the food in LA And San Fran. After moving here I was missing the food back home. Thank you for all the recipes. You are better than Gordon. I love your show.
i love these series! Also, I do love Howlin Rays! It's AMAZING. My favorite fried chicken sandwich ever. So delicious. I'm just as addicted to it just like any other Los Angeleno.
@Andrea's Adventures....High quality chicken, moist and crispy, exploding flavors with cayennes and seasoning. The bun and coleslaw they use have makes it’s a great balance of taste.
Thanks for this! I'm using this recipe for some sandwiches in the van today, but I'm switching it up a little and using the Mealthy Crisplid for the chicken instead of a deep fry.
This is not a recreation, The Chicken is dipped in a love juice (hot oil spice) and powdered with dry spiced seasoning, the Slaw is also vinegar based and so Bomb, no mayo based. They also use a french oil brushed onto the bun before toasting.
LotusLatte recipe does not need to be exact same but the style of the way its prepared should be. Vinegar slaw, spice shake, and developing a love juice that is dipped in is the main focal point that makes howling rays famous. Other wise this is just a spicy chicken sandwich.
Donal would you consider a more environmentally friendly product than cling film? I have reusable silicone lids that stretch to fit different sized containers.
While I agree for most things that reusable things should be used, in that receipe, you really want no air in at all and cling film is the only option, the other ones letting a bit of air pass
Hey, Donal: The origin story I always heard was the cheating husband birth of the chicken. Hattie B's is great, but Prince's was the first. My first time I ordered 'medium,' then started to doubt myself as everyone started to laugh. For good reason! Here's NPR's coverage of Prince's: www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2016/04/28/471436355/how-a-cheating-husband-gave-rise-to-nashvilles-hot-chicken-craze
FYI, they don't want people paying to wait in line and have banned that act. That was a thing earlier this year maybe but it hasn't really been a thing for a while. Also, doesn't feel like the marinade has enough cayenne to be a Howlin Ray's influenced sandwich.
Seems like he spent about oh- 5 minutes researching this recipe. Not even close to Howlin Rays, sorry. Annoying when anyone who thinks they have charisma makes a fried chicken video just to make money.
Merlin535 that's unbelievably crazy! Who's that? I know, joke aside, without all the pepper, there's just not a whole lot different about this sandwich
Chicken thighs are gross. You need to trim away the fat, gristle and sinew. Nothing more than cat food, and that gets trimmed up too before serving to him; him being the cat.
