From the DVD "Blues at Newport 1966"; Howlin' Wolf seems to enjoy the taste of His Harmonica maybe just a bit too much. This is a very good performance by a consummate Master of the Blues. Enjoy!
I don't know what to say. My dad is a huge blues fan and growing up, I knew many of the blues records by heart and would sing them regularly. This was a real pleasure to watch.
This music is so full of soul, emotion and history. Just realized how big of a legend Howlin Wolf was at the time and the foundation he laid. One of the few artist who was self made, financially stable and extended his educational knowledge to manage his own finances. Maintained a long marriage, raised their kids and even had health care for his band members. That was EPIC even for this era...a true pioneer.
When he opens his mouth and sings it's as if the very spark that created the human soul shoots forth and overfills my heart with the blissful pain of the potential of my own existence. Transcendent!
The Almighty has blessed me this Beautiful Day! Up with Howlin Wolf! Man! Delta Blues! Legendary Guitar and Singer Harpist! Thank you So much for sharing this incredible man!
Growing up on the south side of Chicago (43rd) street....I heard this type of music all the time walking past store front record shops and lounges...It was like walking in the park and hearing birds chirp.
The blues is the life in music stuff they had had to put up with and made things we only had happen.they were our grandfather's uncle's cousins dad's and mom's n stepfather's our ultimate friends.we cherished n loved them all.folkart in the most obvious ways take form.So from history standpoint rap rnb country tear jerking the hard times hip-hop even love songs we found in bars or blues clubs or on the radio as an inspiration maybe a girl lady or friend we met was from our blues at one time or another.we can deny it all but we are who we are.it doesn't matter where you live or who you are.Its called the blues for the ultimate reason it's the blues smooth with an edge or hard as it comes you can use a chaser with what you get out of it to smooth it down but it's just the blues we love it you can wipe it off and it still shines cause it's the blues baby ya dig.peace 2all my homies. The blues baby Come back now I'll be here playing my blues Rip Mr Bbking
The Great big, bad Howlin' Wolf. I know Heaven has the greatest Blues section to be found and when I get there I want to meet up with you all. Howlin' Wolf you are missed but thankfully we still have your music. Hugs Mr. Wolf until I can hug you in person. You still got it here, sir.
"cut it out wolf" - son house. its real cool seeing Son House dancing and watching Howlin Wolfs Chicago Blues. it would have been like witnessing the possible meeting of Mozart and Beethoven. and seeing Mozart dance to the music he influenced.
Actually, it sad to see the sorry state of the drunk Son House. He was in a very bad way and when you watch his performances from that era you can see that he was not well.
Grew up on this music...Howling Wolf is one of the greatest......every time I play his music I just wanna drive the roads in Mississippi and jam on out to his jams
There' s 70 people above who most definitely haven't got the blues !!! Thanks for uploading this ,just looking out my bedroom on this cold January afternoon 12 th night in fact ! and it' s got to be the darkest sky I' ve seen in years at 1,45 in the afternoon its nearly dark .This song somehow makes shine again ☺
Wolf and House unfortunately had a clash at this event, and it seems to onlookers and is incorrectly stated by people that Wolf was simply angry at house. Wolf himself said that it sort of hurt him on the inside to see his role model and hero act like a drunken fool. But, it is nice to see this great film before they fought. Also, for those liking the House-Wolf thing, check out the 'Dust My Broom' film, this shows House dancing while Wolf plays, it's quite interesting.
