This is a step by step how-to video showing the installation of underwater LED transom lights with no drilling required. The lights fit through the drain plug hole and are easy to install or simply connect to your battery. They are available from RunninHotRacing on eBay. You can find them here: stores.ebay.co...

So from an electrician input, if you use the proper environmental splices which shrink and seal with silicone you won't get moisture in.

That's nice. You won't loose drain plug no more when you have wires hooked to it.

+Steve Andrews I still carry the old plug just in case. lol

Another no hull hole option is mounting on top of trim tabs. You need to get ones that operate out of water but you get some serious bright ones.

So it doesn’t swivel when tightening or loosening the plug? How bad does it twist the wires and what kind of longevity do you think will come from the wires being twisted like that?

Wire nuts are for solid wire lol. You crimp to gain surface area of a wire for the amperage and vibration. But yeah safe boating

Good cleaning and seal on that boat would go a long way. I have this same light and u will burn it out leaving it in out of the water for very long.

+Joe Josephs I love the lights. They are not as bright as previous leds on my other boat... but still give the desired effect and no holes in the hull.

Is it bright under the water? Thinking on buying one just like this for our seadoo jet boat! It looks fantastic!

Not as bright as the ones I put on my previous boat... but given the price and ease of install, I'm happy with them. I spend the night out recently and used it at anchor. I didn't notice any bait fish around though... it was rough conditions. Can't wait to light them up while underway at night... although that rarely happens.

Wire nuts is a bodge job! You can not beat a soldered connection with shrinkwrap. I do understand, its your boat. BUT if you are doing a job, do it properly first!!!!! No matter how good you think your memory is, you will never remember different coloured wires which you are joining together. Thats poor workmanship!

Garry, while you are correct in no wire nuts on a boat, soldered connections also are not to the ABYC Standards. " A more practical solution is to use a crimp connector described above. Wires should never be joined simply by soldering and taping (or heat shrink)" You must use a crimp connector. You may choose to solder and crimp, but not solder and no crimp.

I put this one on my boat and it is extremely bright. Just about blinded myself testing it out on my kitchen counter. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YHT7PR6

I purchased a boat that was wired using wire nuts. Needless to say I ended up completely re wiring it. Pitiful that you can find the time to make a video, but not use a soldering iron.

Soldering iron still isnt the best way to tie wires, its always recommended by the abyc to use heatshrink crimping wire connectors only.
