@@sirsuntar8717 Nope, player count matters more, because it shows that the game is popular. If you would choose between someone that pays 100 bucks on your f2p game but quits after month VS someone that doesn't spend anything but is addicted and grinds the game since day one, you would choose second option. Because that person boost your active player count and also makes free publicity for your game (that person most likely recommended game earlier to friends who may spend money)
I have to imagine the VA pulling a "surprised Pikachu face" when told that, cause the VA probably thinks the employer will get on all fours and beg for the VA to stay, with promises of change suiting the VA. TL;DR VAs have no power over their employers.
As a Chinese person quite familiar to the Chinese community and Chinese culture, allow me to reenact how Hoyoverse reacted to the boycott: Employee: Boss! Boss! The Western fanbase is boycotting us! Boss: What? Employee: They are saying we are appropriating their culture and say they won't play our games anymore! Boss: So? Employee: Sir? Boss: Are they still playing our games? Employee: uhhhh yes? Boss: Are they still paying money to pull for characters? Employee: **checks** yes sir Boss: So whats the problem? Employee: ....They don't like us sir Boss: Get back to work the end
This. These boycotters refuse to acknowledge that playing the game even as f2p still supports the game. Yes, spenders are important to them to get the money but players count is important to get investors. f2p are making sure the game still alive and relevant.
EXACTLY what I was thinking. I know nothing about Hoyoverse but I saw people trying to cancel it on Pinterest and just thought, "If everyone on the global servers stop playing, the only thing that would probably happen is that they stop spending money on the global release and shut it down, since their target audience is probably within their own character anyway."
They act like they are creators or something. They literally go into a recording booth and read lines that are already prepared for them the VAST majority of the time. They are about as impactful to the game as random bar owners in red dead redemption 2.
It’s western audience fault I think. They really treat famous VA like some kind of superstars. If you wstch letsplay of every japanese game where will be fucking hours guessing where the letsplayer heard this VA, not paying attention to dialogue lines. Dont get me wrong, they are amazing, but praising them nonstop we can easili forget about writers, who write there lines, artists, programmers etc.
As a Latino person, I hate people trying to represent or standing up for us when we don't have a problem with any of the things that they see as "problematic". While I do think that Genshin could use some darker skin characters, I do not think that what Hoyoverse is doing is cultural appropriation and in fact, I do like the new characters of Natlan. And in fact, shocking news, there are latinos with pale skin, me being the example even though I have both indigenous and black descendance for both of my parents. To this voice actors and false activists that are trying to speak on behalf for us, I only have one thing to say: "Shut up, Gringos, we don't care"
As a black American all I can say is.... I'm very sorry that Americans are cringe. I know it sucks when people who don't know or identify with your cultural standards decide their voice speaks on behalf of your interests Because there's nothing more annoying than a bunch of jackasses virtue signaling, or declaring racism in places that the "victim" of said cultural appropriation don't see as an issue. If it were as big as an issue to the Latino community as it was the VAs, then well.... I'm pretty sure this would be much bigger than it currently is. (Sidenote: like you said I do believe we could do with a few more darker characters, some of my favorites bronze characters like Dehya, Xinya, or Cyno are just really good looking models.)
I mean, it's normal for someone to loathe their abysmal jobs. But it takes another kind of deranged to openly disdain your place of work on a platform that your employer also openly use.
What's also hilarious is that Genshin's livestream announced a bunch of long awaited, exciting QOL updates and gifts, and now people are fucking ecstatic and can't wait to play. Including the "boycotters". I guess 'disrespecting cultures' doesn't matter to you as much as your fun
tfw hoyo releases various fixes for the games that people have been asking for since the game came out, but the only thing these mfs care about is skin colors on actual, literal NPCs. lol
Most people in this boycott don’t care jacks**t about culture appropriation, they’re just using that to mask their Disdain for the game not giving them enough free stuff.
Sex =/= Attractiveness. A good amount of men are willing to have sex with a woman they wouldn't be willing to be seen in public with because clapping cheeks is preferable to beating meat. The star of this video is straight up proof of that. She doesn't understand that letting some dudes in her guts doesn't mean she's pretty. It would almost be sad if she weren't so insufferable.
that VA blacklisted herself not just from hoyoverse projects but also any other projects from all studios since no studio would want to work with a VA who is so unprofessional
Crunchyroll would. Unfortunate, but many English VAs and localizers believe they are God's gift to mankind and everything they say is pure gold. It's gross how narcissistic some VAs are.
Literally like she said "im doing this for my friends!" Like something you'd would hear from Naruto, and the way she did was by saying she has more money then random twitter user, and basically calling herself a h03 like what 😭
As a Japanese I gotta say this kind of unprofessional behavior is the reason why English VA always leaves a bad impression. And I know it’s few bad apples of all drag their reputation. Poor voice actors who are sincere and professional.
We're embarrassed by our VAs as well. Most of them see the industry of voice acting as a stepping stone to being a movie actor, and because of that a large chunk of them actively hate the industry and the projects they participate in. It was never what they wanted to do. The sad thing is, it's not a few bad apples. Good VAs are the exception, and are usually bullied out of the industry because they don't adhere to the cliques. There are a few good ones who can handle it and stay in the industry, but it's rough.

I remembered when I predicted a very huge RU-vidr's downfall 4 months before it actually happened. I didn't even knew I did that until a few days later.
You know what's the real issue? That these people, when they get their eventual downfall, instead of suffering the consequences of their actions, they start receiving "helps" from governments financed with the taxes of real and decent workers. That's the most annoying part. When they should pay for their stupidity, they get saved because, by the current politics standards, they are fighting the good fight. So even when they lose, they win.
That's normal in social media, even in Japan. JP VAs get death threats from fans just cause they are dating another dude just cause they voice their waifu.
That's only the case for the ones that do anime dubbing. There are English VAs with decades of experience, but you won't find any of them doing voices for gacha.

FYI, Lucy's original VA was Courtney Lin. She also had voiced Huohuo in HSR and she has been removed from both roles due to unknown reasons, but it's suspected to be contract conflictions. The VA that is sturring up boycott trouble recently is Valeria Rodriguez, the EN VA for Sucrose.
Is it known which kind of contract confliction? Like, her voice was already recorded and used. At that point, surely it wasn't a conflict in planning or time management. Maybe payment?
@@christophsiebert1213 it could be, but also I know Huohuo and Lucy were to continue appearing in the games they are from in subsequent versions, so that means more recorded lines to do, and she perhaps had a schedule that conflicted with recording for Star Rail and Zenless.

If she replies like that to a bunch of random twitter nobodies, there is no way she is happy in life. A happy person has better things to do. She's deeply insecure.
She was only responding to a loser who was bullying another VA bc they lost their job and started saying "I can't wait for AI to replace you all" and then turned around and promoted another English VA 😂. Pretty justified actually 😊
Valeria looks like the girl that was bullied at school and never got over it, so she acts like her bully in the real world where everyone else moved on from that sort of thing almost immediately upon leaving school.
She sounds more like the bully who never got what was coming to her in school, so now she thinks that's how the world works while being perpetually on edge waiting for things that threaten her undeserved self-esteem. Because their way is the politically and socially correct way according to the new social paradigm of this century. Is bullshit. A lack of something doesn't neccesarily mean something is wrong. Is just what it is.
All this tells me is that these VAs probably never read their contract to understand what a non-disparagement clause is. People like Valeria are a prime example of people getting full of themselves because they landed a role in an immensely popular game, and yet her character is a low tier one at best.
I´m asian, or better say chinese, so this might be a cultural thing, but to me, lots of english workers profiting from mihoyo, mostly VAs and some CCs, looks so arrogant and ungrateful. Mihoyo single handly changed the entire gacha game sector, with insane money flows insane payment towards third-party, giving out lots of exposure and profit for others, even leakers earning (I prefer call it stealing) 5 figures monthly. How can they be so pretentious while taking money and make fame with mihoyo? If you want to be a saint, better act like one.
Hoyo has literally become my favourite game developer. The quality of their games is unprecedented. They’ve also (along with some other companies) helped shift my opinion of China to being a lot more positive. China is pretty amazing
It's pretty simple, IMHO. American (english, western, whatever) people are told that THEY are special and important and the world must cater to them. Chinese (and other people in normal countries) people are told that their country and its culture/history are special and important and they should take care of their community. In the global community, China is one of the "adults in the room" and the US in particular is a spoiled and selfish childish bully. I'm from the US, btw.
It gets to their heads and they think they're some kind of authority. Funny, considering that they're not real actors, and yet, it gets to them *this* much. They're only saying lines in a cool or cute voice.
I don't think that's a cultural thing unique to China. I would have a lot more respect for them if they avoided controversy and just focused on doing a good job. I do respect employees exposing shady stuff happening in the company, but this is very different.
Valeria has and always will be insufferable. She talks big talk but when compared to other voice actors her roles are so miniscule that all this riding on her high horse seems to be delusion
This is what happens when activism gets in the way of professionalism. Professionalism is based on merit, and activism is based on ideology. Only one of them can secure a job, and if I need to tell this woman which, then she already lost the argument.
Valeria Rodriguez thinks she's rich just because she probably has about 30k or 50k in her bank account. What she doesn't realize is that she's just one medical scare away from losing half that in medical expenses, or perhaps a car crash or something along those lines. Just give it time, life will come her way as it does for everyone.
The thing about rich people is that they wouldn't even bother telling people how much they make. Plus they'd be too busy making more money to even lurk on twitter.

While Valeria's response was super emotional and cringe I doubt Courtney Lin actually got replaced for supporting the boycott. Her tweet was vague at best and multiple other VAs have made more direct tweets supporting it. Hoyo also doesn't touch the english voice cast unless its for extreme cases like Tighnari and Moze's VAs. @@11Megane23I mean encouraging a boycott in any form for something you work on is a pretty dumb move. Especially if you don’t expect to get fired for it.
The boycott is dumb, but also the game comes from a place where if you did this you would be disappeared. Imagine boycotting a Chinese company for the dumbest reason after getting paid by them.
You don't really get dissapeared for speaking out against companies in China, Maybe if you have some nuclear level whistleblower stuff but as Boeing has proved that isn't safe in the US either. You get dissapeared when you say the Government isn't going a good enough job addressing said issue with the company.
If that were true, why wasn’t Valeria(Sucrose's VA) fired then, too? She spoke the most about the boycott and the Natlan issue, so it seems like a really petty reason to fire one person and then let the other person get away scott-free. That information is highly misleading too because we never actually got an explanation on why they were fired.
I don't think the boycott is actually related to her being fired, the argenti VA got replaced at the same exact time as her and he didn't do anything. It is likely that they are part of the same VA agency and their contracts got messed up.
@@KevinSatron yeah but the irony is immaculate like khoi dao making same type of statement and then appearing on the genshin livestream shilling for the game. At least stand by your morals
VAs need to start learning that they're just as replaceable as anyone else. Voicing a character in a videogame does not make you special, regardless of how well you did or how popular that character is. You are just a regular human being with a job. That's it.
Yep. Take Tom Kenny, for example; he's legendary for voicing the sponge, sure, but that could've gone south for him and he could've been replaced any time.
Tell that to Japan who NEVER replaces VA's, uses the exact same 10 to the point if one dies an entire series potentially gets canceled or characters like in kh3 are unvoiced/persona 5 scramble the characters are flat out missing..
it's good that in future VA will just sell license to AI and all voice will be geterated , no more personal influence in the drama it will be like selling any other service such as haircut or plumbing
The only important people are the ones who actually drive the main creative direction of the game and the people who make the assets like models and animations. VAs are utterly replaceable if they start getting uppity cause they got too much liberal poison in their brains.
Both Huo Huo, who Courtney Lin voices in HSR, and another character named Argenti VAs were replaced around the same time (around 2 to 3 weeks ago), both for unknown reasons. The leading theory is that it was actually because of contract disputes. I can't really say much about the melt down Sucrose's VA had other than it was extremely unprofessional.
Ironically, Valeria's outburst worked... If the goal was to out yourself as being such a cringe, toxic piece of garbage that the fired VA looks innocent by comparison
Courtney Lin to my knowledge has never talked about the boycott, although if Valeria gets herself fired over this meltdown, I won’t feel sorry for her.
Just remember: They're claiming "cultural appropriation" over FICTIONAL CONTENT. How braindead is that? An area in a game which never existed before & doesn't exist outside a video game. I get a migraine trying to understand that.
people aren’t mad at “cultural appropriation” lmao .. don’t even know why he said that cause he clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about… people are mad at the fact that hoyoverse is using these various cultures but not properly paying homage nor representing their people in game.
I once argued with two of them 'boycotters' on X. I said similar things such as Genshin is inspired by real world. That sentence is written in every major updates. I even provide an example of a dish called Chop Suey. In Genshin, Chop Suey is a skewered meat and fish. In real life, Chop Suey is a noodle-based dish. They responded with and I quote : "Doesn't matter if it's fictional, it's still whitewashing. IDK how yall can't wrap your heads around that". Then I shut up. That shit hurt my brain so much that I've decided to spent my next 4 hours playing Genshin.
@@jjjay0w0so yall are boycotting because you think the color of peoples skin represents culture more than everything else and witout skin color culture is incomplete and that a black fictional char being inserted into a game is more important than actual black singers being invited that are not fake and are made out of flesh that sounds dummer than what everybody was assuming tbh you should never have said that 😅

I really wish VAs that act like this on social media get blacklisted. If they can type all of these hurtful, mean, and potentially liable comments on their public profiles, what kind of person are they in private? This woman has so many redflags for creating a toxic work environment that I'm surprised she finds any jobs. I hope hoyo never works with her again, and I hope other companies reconsider their professional relationship with her.
She works for Nickelodeon on a kids show (Monster High) at the moment also. I really don't think it's appropriate considering it's easier than ever for kids to look up the VAs and see them spewing all this vitriol all over their public profiles.
This is why I always keep playing hoyo games in JP. You almost never, rarely hear any sort of drama from them. To the point where I don’t think I could recall any JP VA that has a main role in hoyo getting replaced
Not only that, but it sucks when an EN VA, whose character we've gotten attached to, is suddenly replaced, completely changing the vibe of the character.
Just because of the Fact that especially in the JP Dub most VAs are professional who are working in the Anime Industry. And in JP Voice Acting has a complete differend standart then in the West. In JP VA's are celebrated same as Hollywood Actors in the West. They totally know they cant do these type of Drama in Public because otherwise they would never getting hired by anyone ever again.
The boycott was over nothing to begin with. Genshin is a work of fiction, just because Hoyo got some inspiration from real world cultures doesn't mean they have a moral obligation of accurate representation. A lot of people these days tend to hide their subjective preferences behind a false moral grandstanding. Instead of simply expressing their desire for something they're accusing the other side of immoral actions.
They also don't realize that a lot of people (if not the overwhelming majority) of people don't really care that much about representation to any significant degree if at all. Moreover, to care about it to the degree they do often requires some them to have some lack of tolerance or actual bigotry.
And I'm honestly way more interested in the actual culture representation/how much they were inspired from it, to implement it and to make it fits the universe, things like mythology, rites, dances, food, etc... I want the story to be good as well, I don't fucking care about the skin color, that's not what I want to see, if it was just about that, it would taste terribly bland.
@@otagamexe2004 It's quite fascinating indeed. To combine various aspects from different cultures and make it look organic is pretty cool. And it's not that different from how cultural borrowing and cross-fertilization happen in real world.
And if you ask them if morality is subjective or objective they would say subjective but then still try to say that hoyo is bad no matter what. Literally cognitive dissonance.
This is why people look down on EN VA in general. Such unprofessional behaviour unbecoming of the industry they work for. If you are going to be political go look for a different job where you can air your grievances on your small soapbox.
Honestly I don’t know what these VAs thought was gonna happen, and honestly, many of these boycotters are always one 3 minute Genshin, Honkai, or ZZZ trailer away from supporting Hoyoverse again
I'm gonna be the person that says besides a few, most of the VA actually only made like a tweet asking for better representation. But never outright trying to attack/boycott hoyoverse.
I heavily doubt that EN Huohuo/Lucy's recasting has anything to do with the "boycott." Courtney Lin was only one of many, many voice actors loosely referencing it, and another EN voice appearing in Star Rail 1.5, Argenti/Tail's, was also replaced. Courtney Lin did not voice Zenless 1.0 EN Soukaku, either. We do not know who voiced 1.0 EN Soukaku; she was uncredited.

because twitter is built to bring out the worst in people. facebook tested this, negativity drives more engagment than positivty. its built to encourage the tribalist hostility, the cult like adherence to bullshit. it wouldn't be so bad if not for the mental health crisis of people that cannot tell fantasy from reality. people think twitter is real life. its actually, and unironicaly, been likened to a town square. thats why everything went to shit, post 2010. the interlectual hey day of the internet was buried buy the ignorant masses discovering facebook, and conflating online with IRL
lol an employee was not only not helping to stop the nonsense, they were actively abetting some activity which will reflect badly on your employer, gets fired and then her stupid friend goes ballistic... guess who's gonna get fired next?
Why i use Japanese VA because not only the VA is a treat to my ears, the VAs have such professionalism to their craft. I love you, Sawashiro Miyuki, Hikasa Yoko, Tanaka Rie and all JP VAs that I feel in love with your voices (i can't type all of you cuz i will be writing a wiki here) ❤
How long until the legal team at miHoYo decides to include a clause in their contracts prohibiting future employees from joining, supporting, or making comments that could damage their brand? Honestly, I would have suggested it 3 or 4 controversies ago.
Every woman I've known who bragged about having threesomes or a lot of partners in general was a 3 to 4 at best. And every one of them had herpes, frequent yeast infections, and at least 1 other STI and/or unwanted pregnancy a year.
What kind of statistic is this? How many women do you "know" like this? I'm not really getting defensive on behalf of sluts or anything like that but it just seems like a strange thing to say.
@@littleluxia It can be if you're an man, because it's actually difficult enough to even get one Woman to lay with; But bragging about it as an Woman is the salsa dip bragging about having a lot of Chips lined up waiting to get dunked in, and just as appetizing when it's the Chips of many different people.
I don’t even use the English voice cast. I like the Japanese voice casts for these games. Why are there so many English VA’s being replaced? This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this happen with a Hoyo game although not all of them are due to stuff like this
It's because what these voice actors fail to realize is that it's a bad look for the employer to have them doing this why would your employer keep you around when you are actively trashing them and calling them racist effectively
@@breezy3176 They are to used to the liberal left dominating all facets of entertainment in the west. That is how they are so comfortable spewing this nonsense that nobody with any common sense would agree with. Luckily for us the east stands strong and separate from silly racial narratives. They keep thinking that America is the entire world and then get a rude awakening in public for all to see. I find it hilarious honestly.
Because English VAs are LARGELY self-important wankers. Hank Azaria stopped voice acting Apu from Simpsons because you know, his skin color matters to what he is selling to a company for a project he was working on for YEARS. Other English VAs have done the same moral grandstanding because that culture is unfortunately prevalent among them.
While what Valeria did is rather toxic, and Courtney had referenced the boycott, Courtney did not get fired for the boycott. Based on how recording VA lines work, her and Adam Michael Gold, the other VA replaced at the same time, would have been removed months before it. There hasn't been any official reason for either of their replacements so any claims on the nature of them being replaced is speculation at best. It's especially noticeable because Genshin, HSR, and ZZZ all use different VA studios/companies. EDIT: Should also point out Courtney only voiced Lucy, Soukaku was an uncredited VA.
Most do, with the exception of mentions approved by the company itself. It is a standard part of the contract, especially with products under developement. These idiots do it despite the contracts. They do not realize that simply getting fired can be the "lighter" consequence.
It's literally only a west issue, this is why everyone laughs at the west because of how trivial this shit is. I guarantee that once the characters come out about a month after the people preaching this are going to roll and spend money for the new characters and forget about it, like how there was the big uproar about it in Sumeru though there were a few tanner characters in that patch but people were still angry about it lmao. As well the west doesnt even make up a large portion of the consumers for Hoyoverse, their main market is Asia and always has been since mobile gaming is a way bigger successful market in the east than it is the west, so them getting that attention from the main Hoyo branch isnt going to happen, the NA branch might since its closer to home but they cant really do much about it. Also Pyro archon is supposed to be paler, shes literally an iteration of Himeko from Honkai Impact, so they arent going to change the fanbases favorite auntie's skin color to conform with the vocal minority
I mean, just take a look at Sumeru OST and Natlan OST and those are the best practice of cultural representation. Meanwhile western people: lets blackwash SNOW WHITE. How about Yasuke an African killing JP people and make them bow to him on American hiphop music. And ofc no one would try to adapt Latam/Africa culture and tales, even gatekeeping it, and only apply the skin.
5:41 so.. she decided to say that she's pretty much just an idiot and kinda gave herself the label of being one of those "nice women" you'd find on th e streets of LA
at this point just fire the whole EN dub, but if they insist on keeping it, I suggest they hire me - professional, grateful for the work, don't use twitter, only attracted to consenting adult women. I can play Sucrose damn it !
There is a difference between VAs encouraging the boycott and being toxic, and VAs who are letting people know their opinions known, respectively. Courtney and Valeria have proven themselves to be extremely toxic. I hope the other Genshin VAs denounce this kind of behavior, and I hope that Sucrose's VA gets replaced.
If i recall correctly even Cy Yu made a slight comment with some other VAs saying Yeah that makes sense to make some people upset, i hope Mihoyo addresses it" but were just as respectful or casual about it as anyone else. Courtney was just doing a similar thing based on this post, saying "Hey, if you really feel offended, please let your voice be heard..." That doesn't seem toxic that just sounds more like "I'm proud our community can unite to make a problem known" and while you could argue it's a Silly offense or justified...unless this is directed to some other comment she made, how is that toxic? The Sucrose VA reply was for sure...but i fail to see Courtney is toxic for this when that was probably the nicest way to put it...
Veteran English VA's know when to keep their mouth shut and act professional, especially when it comes to dealing with fans. That's how they stay in the industry. These teenagers rose to stardom too fast because of the opportunity Genshin Impact gave them, and without the talent or attitude to build a fanbase around themselves, they are doomed to fall into obscurity once their limelight ends.
Well according to the left in America monogamy is just not a thing human beings were meant to do. Then they wonder why they end up alone and unhappy. The fun ends when nobody wants to have sex with them anymore and it's all because that is what they reduce human connection to. Strictly physical.
