Finally, an interviewer who is asking intelligent questions and letting Andrew answer without interruption. The others have been asking really stupid questions that his true fans, or himself for that matter, don't care about. We care about the history behind each song, how he feels about it or how it makes us feel.
Ok, I am so blown away by this man. He is so ceribral and self-aware. He writes music that speaks to the heart and soul. Love you, Andrew! It's refreshing to see artists writing intelligent and interesting lyrics.
Thank you so much for this! This is my favorite interview with Hozier, this tour. You asked him such great questions, and elicited such wonderful answers. This man's best feature is his mind, and his heart, and they were on full display, here. Andrew cares about people, in all their aspects, on the grand scale, and the intimate. "Being good to one another is serious business, and has serious consequences, in the best way." "A comforting squeeze of the hand." Andrew is such an amazing artist, to be able to tap into that, wrap it up, and share it with all of us, and is such a wonderful example as a human being.
Oh this was so refreshing to listen to. I love that he gets to just chill with someone who knows his references and they can just dive into the nitty gritty behind his work from the writing all the way up to the arranging and performing, and it's lovely to see Andrew get to be Andrew the artist being passionate about what he does, rather than Hozier the Celebrity having to answer shallow, valid questions, some of which so clearly make the poor lad uncomfortable. This was a joy to watch and listen to. Thanks for uploading it.
I love hearing him speak about how music in inherently political in nature. Amen, brother. There is no escaping that which affects and dictates so much of our life. We cannot be ignorant in this. Beautiful man with a beautiful voice, incredible music, but his soul/mind is the most impressive to me.
I really enjoy this one. It's like two friends casually chatting, but Sky Daniels asked intelligent questions. Some interviews Hozier or some other artists have to endure are really horrible. The questions can be plain stupid insulting anyone's intelligence, and then there are some just blatantly offensive and intrusive. There is an obsession with a public figure's private life. One of the worst interviews of Hozier I remember I've ever heard is one when he first got some fame with Take MeTo Church and the host was saying things like he could be not short of company now he was a rock star, basically implying that he could bed anyone now. Hozier was clearly offended, and it was shown so clearly on his face. He is always so genuine and transparent. But ever polite, he sort of dodged the question with impeccable composure. This interview is so different. I like the part about the sacred and the secular in Hozier's songs. And about faith and mandatory melancholy in the doomsday scenario of the lyrics. This is someone with observation and insight, Sky Daniels is really interested in his guest and his work. There is a respect that one should have when you engage with another human being, and he certainly takes his role as an interviewer seriously. The interview is intelligent but not kind of contrived or high-brow. This is one of the best interviews of Hozier, if not the best one I've ever heard. I'm so glad to have come across it on RU-vid.
He's saying that artists and consumers often say they want politics out of music, but Hozier is saying that anything concerning the human experience, from the financial crisis to football, will essentially be political. He's saying that politics don't just exist with politicians and in government buildings, but also in day to day life and everyday experiences.
