y’all in the comments completely misunderstanding the lyrics is painful. She’s not too young for him, she’s just too naive and innocent for him. perhaps that comes with a younger age but over all he’s waiting for her to become as bitter and cold to the world as he is before he can see them having a realistic relationship together but the wedding bells in the background suggest that despite him thinking she’s quite literally too sweet for him, he can’t help but imagine a future with her.
They just have different interests and hobbies. She likes to take care of herself and probably always will no matter what age. He's more of a night owl and likes alcohol etc. a lot of relationships are like that and then you find someone more in tune with yourself.
"who wants to live forever babe? you treat your mouth as if it's heaven's gate, the rest of you like you're the TSA" so in the verses the woman has been telling him off for his sleep habits and working late & probably not answering his calls. She seems like a health buff, drunk on life & he's the opposite. So I think treating her mouth like heaven's gate has to do with her strict diet, & she inspects, regulates & runs her body like the TSA.
I didn't recognize his vocals either!! This song has me hooked. I've never liked a song so much that I had to go WATCH A REACTION vid to it. Veryyyy nice song
He's talking about a woman who is too nice for his taste. She's as beautiful as a grape on the vine, but if she could take some time to become wine, he might be interested. But as she is, he'd rather just keep living his life.
@@COUNTYGAINS from Wicklow he just got a UK #1 & on the running for #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 he's currently #3 or #4, he's on top of Spotify in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland & NZ & Australia
I love Hozier but greatest Irish singer? I'm a tad older (okay a lot older) but there is a gentleman named Van Morrison you might want to listen to. Try 'Into the Mystic'.
He’s basically telling her that she is too young for him. “Sweet as a grape, if you wait in a barrel maybe I’ll wait.” Grapes aged in a barrel turns into wine, he’s telling her when she gets older he may be interested. He likes his women older
I don't think it has to do with age as much as wholesomeness. Sounds like she's got her life together & is imposing her rules onto him. She's fine as she is but I think Hozier's more into an intoxicating kind of woman instead of just sweet & nice.
