I did open broken keyboards with keys not working and did manage to fix the traces in order to make them functional again, but the fix is not reliable usually and IT IS NOT WORTH THE TIME. Usually, unless you have a very expensive keyboard that somehow is still using membranes and trace sheets, they best action is to just throw the keyboard away and replace it.

Sorin. I tryed to fix a laptop today. It was a HP Elite Book 755. It seems to be of good quality. When i plug the charger the charging lite is blinking and also the power buton, but it dos,nt do anything. First i disconected the bias battery, then tok it apart with care and i disconected the the battery harddisc and ram keyboard and powerbutton screen. It was of course i disconected the blinking, but i found the blinking on one of the coils. 19 volts is ok. i had one coil with 5 volts and one coil with 3,3 volts. and one coil with blinking 3,3 volts. I told my frend that i cant do so much more because i didnt have more than a multimeter. Though he gave me the laptop and said thank for trying. What do you think it could be. I dont think it is a short on this 3,3. the diodes lights up good and i cant mesure short. Do you hav any ideas?

Sorin explains why he does that instead of Ohm setting where it applies, in another, earlier video. He uses the diode test mode when semiconductors are in the path, as they start to ´open´ at a certain voltage, typically diodes at 0.7 volt, Schottky low drop at 0.3 or something. Otherwise, we might draw wrong conclusions when measuring. I recommend you look at all his videos, from the start. He shows so many diagnostic tricks nobody will tell you about. He discusses basics that do not always spring to the mind, taught only by such an experienced man like Sorin. Sorin makes us understand to recognize the words, so to say, when before we only saw the single letters.

Hi Sorin it is very dangerous with 19v to main power rail on the current. If you have a shorted highside mosfet you will instantly kill the cpu, gpu or PCH
@kex1xik
@kex1xik 2 года назад
This is theoretically true. But in practice I think it would have arrived already killed in such case. See - the input mosfet is not turning on so superio/whatever probably detected over-current. But if it were high-side mosfet on a regulator shorted, it would need only a very little current to kill everything after the regulator with 19v.
@stevedebeukelaer1424
@stevedebeukelaer1424 2 года назад
@@kex1xik yes but therefore are the first second mosfet who stops the current. There are there to protect those rails., if you bypass them then you sent it right to the cpu, PCH , etc.
@kex1xik
@kex1xik 2 года назад
@@stevedebeukelaer1424 But that first mosfet can be turned off only if PCH/EC detects over-current. But at the time it would detect over-current on this 19v rail with high-side mosfet shorted, it would probably be already too late (high voltage would have reached the cpu PCH). Note it cannot detect over-voltage because 19V is expected to be at the regulator input (it is just not expected on the output but I doubt there are over-voltage checks on every regulator output which would turn this first mosfet off). Without voltage there is no current. So if there is over-current AND high voltage through a shorted high-side mosfet, it is already too late.
