@Shresth Jakhwal I haven't really had any issues. It's been pretty reliable. I've been through about two sets of toner cartridges so far. No issues to really report other than maybe when you scan things, you gotta make sure that the paper is pretty straight and tight in the feeder. I think that the software that comes with the computer, HP Smart, is pretty useful and well-thought-out. In addition the print to computer from your mobile device is great as well. I think it's really well done. You would be happy with it. Keep in mind that I run a very small office of about two people.

I have the exactly the same and it has not been a year since purchase and the touch screen stop to work now.

100% agree! I was about to walk away on a good deal on this printer because marketing material listed max depth as 25.7 inches. Came here specifically hoping for the dimensions to be mentioned, and you covered them in detail!

Yes, you can load different paper into the different trays and specify at the time of printing which tray to use, or set the printer properties to the specific paper type you've loaded and set the printer to auto-select the tray based on the paper size.

Agree with you, I got a HP Color LaserJet mfp 281 and this has a double sided print but not scan, unfortunately I figured this out recently and plan to buy a new one now, as as you mentioned above - flipping over the paper all the time is quite annoying.

Yikes! I thought $820 was eye watering... You bought this exact one or what did you end up getting? I'm trying to find similar Brother model to look at & it has to be easy to scan/copy & print type... I want drums on toner cartridges vs inside of printer... I'm overwhelmed.

The printer used to cost around $600 but HP recently increased the price on all of their laserjet printer line. The price is steep, especially when comparing to alternative options

Hi, I found out how you can select 1200dpi for this machine. It works only with a computer... there you need Forst to download the HP printer drivers and the HP Scan software. Then start HP Scan on the computer, select one scan profile, or create a new one, then select as input the flatbed (NOT the ADF unit!!!), and under “more”, and Pictures, you will be now able to select 1200dpi as resolution... This is the only way. Good luck.

@@ymjonline Hi, well yes, the ADF can only do 300dpi, but for a document this is more then enough… almost too much… If you want to scan a picture, then you need to use a computer and the flatbed scan, in this case you can scan with up to 1200 dpi.

Yes, it is "full" WiFi - your router DHCP server will assign the printer its own IP address. No cable is required to be connected to a switch or router. The only wire required is the power cable! See 3:48 for a quick demo how to setup the printer on your WiFi network. The WiFi can *also* be used for direct mobile printing, though only one of these connection types is allowed at a time e.g. If you are connected to a phone for direct mobile printing, the printer will be disconnected from your primary WiFi network and vice versa.

I found out from a Best Buy review that HP puts a "W" at the end of their full wifi connectivity model printers too.

Hello, are you still satisfied with your hp479fdw? My old inkjet printer is now KO, so I have to buy a new one. For sure I will never ever buy an inkjet from Canon again. I will buy a laser printer and I’m thinking also to buy the hp479 or the brother Mfc 3750... Unfortunately I’m very unsure, which one should I buy... HP479fdw: the price is relatively stable, around 380 EUR, but there are a lot of complaints regarding the poor scan performance (the Brother is much better here) and that the scanned images are crooked... additionally the print quality is “only” 600x600dpi, which is not too much for such a price (the Brother has 2400x600dpi), and the biggest issue is, the original toner cartridges are approx 5x more expensive as the ones from Brother. It’s insane what HP is doing, what a crazy price they want for new cartridges. Brother MFC3750 cdw (or 3770cdw): has (at least on the technical description) higher scan and print quality, and a much cheaper (5 times cheaper) toner, but the price of this printer are currently on the maximum, are almost more so expensive as it was on the release date... no idea why the Brother printer are raising on price, the HP are dropping in price... very strange. So, it’s a big dilemma what to do... That’s why the question: what are the experiences with these printers. Thank you.

Yikes, sorry to hear that! I would think that submitting a warranty claim should be enough to get it serviced for free or a replacement as it's still under a year old. If you used a credit card for the purchase, it may be covered under warranty extension or purchase protection. You might get better luck contacting them on social media. Try reaching out to their twitter account @HPSupport. I'd be surprised if no one got back to you in such a public setting.

Yes, you can scan to a networked computer or directly connected computer in addition to the USB drive. At 4:01, you can see the scan options include: e-mail, network folder, Sharepoint, and computer (which is partially cutoff in the video). I didn't review the MFC-L3770CDEW, but I do have a video up on the HL-L3290CDW here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wJTb0BC3mbk.html It's similar to the L3770 but has an auto document-feeder tray so is a better apples-to-apples comparison the the HP model in this video, though it lacks a fax feature. I found the control panel on the HP printer to be more user friendly because it's a touch screen. The sequential nested menus of the Brother LCDs are a bit more tedious to navigate. In terms of print performance, black and white prints and speed were similar, though Brother's was a hair faster. I didn't like that there wasn't a USB connection option on the Brother printer, even though it wasn't an issue for me, and its color photo performance was not as good as the HP's, but I guess it would depend on what you plan on using the printer for.

After installing and setup, I see the scan options (computer) but it says "no computers found" when I try to scan. Trying to figure out why it won't. My previous all-in-one printer (HP photosmart 7520) was also connected wirelessly and I had no issues scanning to computer. I noted above you mention "directly connected computer" but I have no more open USB ports on the back on my iMac. Any ideas?

@@mindys3401 Hm, without being able to see your exact setup, it's hard to be able to tell what the exact problem is, but no, you don't need to directly connect a USB cable to scan to a computer as it can be done wirelessly. So it sounds like you have the printer connected to your WiFi as shown at 3:49. Have you also installed the printer software package from HP (see 2:41)? If so, there should be a manage Scan To option in the HP software that might fix your issue. HP support may be able to give you further support if that doesn't work for you.

10 envelopes takes about 30 seconds and you can load up to 10 envelopes at once in Tray 2.

To reset the printer: 1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe the tab at the top of the screen downward to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon . 2. Scroll to and open the following menus: i. Printer Maintenance (Maintenance de l'imprimante) ii. Restore (Restaurer) iii. Restore Factory Defaults (Restaurer les paramètres par défaut) I believe this will allow you to go through the setup steps again when the printer restarts. Good luck!

This printer does work with a variety of media including glossy brochure paper, though I personally haven't tried it so don't have a good reference for the quality. In most cases, I think this printer would do well in a business setting, though if your primary business IS printing, I wouldn't know whether or not the print quality meets the requirements/standard for that. Conservatively, I'd say it'd probably do fine for proof drafts and samples, but isn't quite built for consistent high-volume daily printing.

Yes, but you'll have to make sure to change the paper size setting on the printer or from the software you are printing from so it knows the size and adjust accordingly. In Windows, after hitting print, it usually shows up in the bottom right corner of the print menu under 'Zoom.' If you go into the printer properties, you can also change it there, the first drop down in the right column is usually 'Paper Sizes'.

It's possible, but laser printers require a 1/4" border to function properly, so a 4x6 photo printed on 4x6 media will not fully cover the sheet. If you need a photo where the image fully covers the sheet, you will have to print a 4x6 image onto a larger size media, then trim it down to size after printing. If you have a lot of photo needs, it might be easier to get an inkjet that supports borderless printing.

Hi, the flat bed max size is just a little bit longer than A4 paper so won't accommodate a full legal size sheet, however, the ADF feed tray on top will be able to scan legal paper, even if it's just 1 side of 1 sheet. You can customize and choose the size and number of sides in the copy menu on the LCD panel.

I think it can be done, but I'm not positive as I don't use OneDrive. I know that there is a scan to Network folder option and I believe if you setup OneDrive as a network folder then this is possible.

Sorry, I can't offer any insight on that comparison at the moment. I haven't tried any of the Canon MF740 series printers myself, so I don't really have a good reference for judging its performance or color quality, at least not objectively from experience.

Yes, it would be able to connect to a WiFi hotspot and other devices connected to the same hotspot would be able to print to it (however the device hosting the hotspot would NOT be able to print because it won't be able to join its own hotspot network, as it is already connected to another network which is providing internet service).

A supply memory error is caused when the chip on a toner cartridge doesn't connect with the corresponding contacts inside the printer. Since the error code doesn't specify which cartridge is giving you the problem, you can try removing all the toner cartridges, checking them carefully for damage and, if there is none, re-installing them in the printer to see if this clears up the error. If you installed a new cartridge recently, check that cartridge for protective tabs, stickers, or covers that weren't removed prior to installation, remove them, and then re-install the cartridge. Be sure to only install the correct color cartridge in each corresponding slot in the printer. If this doesn't resolve your issue, I'd reach out to HP for further support. Hope this helps!

It looks like you are correct. This error code indicates a main fan failure. Have you spoken to an HP Tech Support agent? Did they suggest, a repair, return, or other solution? I'm not sure which is the simplest as I have not experienced this problem myself.

Perhaps the update simply activated the HP Cartridge Policy by default. You can turn this setting off in order to use third-party non-OEM cartridges. To find this setting on the printer control panel: 1. From the Home screen, swipe downward from the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon (⚙️). 2. Touch 'Supply Settings,' then 'Cartridge Policy' 3. Touch Off to disable the feature.

When printing from your computer, follow these steps: 1. From your software program, like Microsoft Word, select the Print option. 2. Select the M479FDW printer, and then click the Properties or Preferences button. 3. Click the Color tab. 4. Click the Print in Grayscale option to print a document using the black cartridge only. Otherwise, select Color. 5. Click the OK button to close the Document Properties dialog box. In the Print dialog box, click the OK button to print the job.

Yes, you can define customer paper sizes in the printer properties after the print dialog pops up when you click 'Print.' I know with labels sometimes there will be multiple labels on a sheet and most word processing software (like Microsoft Word) have the templates for different brands and label layouts built into the software. You'd need to select the brand and product number prior to filling out the template, then when you click print it should use the proper settings for that media type.

No, I haven't seen that size in the supported media charts. I believe the largest paper size is 11x14. However, since the width fits into the manual load tray, there may be a way that you can define a custom size for that format, but I don't have any additional information on that.

The starter cartridges are rated for about 1200 pages, so depending on whether you print black and white and color pages together or separately anywhere from 1200 - 2400 pages total (assuming you use equal amounts of color on each page).

I'm not sure what you mean by you can't refill them; are you asking about re-using the old toner cartridges by adding more powdered toner to them? Most toner cartridges aren't designed to be re-filled, so you'd need to buy new cartridges when the toner runs out. For your model printer you would need to buy new 202A or 202X cartridges (standard and high yield respectively).
