You can connect the printer to the router and use it like a wireless network printer. You need software to do it.

Perfect. Thanks a million! This connected my printer through the HP wireless direct printing (the HP-Print-23-Deskjet 2540 network) only, i.e. it did not make the printer available on my Wi-Fi. Consequently I had to toggle networks to print. But! Once connected to the printer this way, I was able to connect the printer through my regular Wi-Fi following Herculean's steps: h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/DEskjet-2540-All-In-One-Wireless-connection-problem/td-p/3191587: 1. From your computer, connect to HP-Setup-XX-Deskjet 2540 series from the list of wireless networks (well, I connected to the HP-Print-23 ... ) 2. Once connected to the printer, open your web browser and type in 192.168.223.1 into the addressbar and press enter. 3. In the printer web utility page, click WIreless Setup Wizard. 4. Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your router.
