If you get one of these with the i5 & Intel HD graphics, they are super reliable with very few thermal issues. I have one, and it is really the best laptop I have ever owned. The repairability of this laptop is 10/10. I cannot believe how much engineering they put into this thing to make it easy to repair. The bottom can be opened without tools (and it's made of real metal). The heatsink and fan screws are semi-attached to the parts so you won't lose any screws. You don't even need to take out the motherboard to remove the fan and heatsink. The CPU has an operable socket so you can upgrade your CPU if you wish. To emphasize how easy it is to repair, here are the parts you can replace just by removing the back cover (no taking apart any motherboards): heatsink, fan, CPU, HDD, RAM, WLAN, Bluetooth, speakers, dvd drive. You can swap out the dvd drive with a caddy that can hold a second HDD. You can clean the heatsink every day if you feel like it. What I don't like about my laptop: The screen has low resolution and poor viewing angle. It's really heavy. With laptops from that generation, I typically avoid anything with dedicated graphics since most companies do not have a proper thermal design for increased heat output. Some just take the easy way out by setting a very aggressive fan algorithm that leaves your laptop screaming all the time.
I love these Elitebooks man! I have my 8440p with the base i5-520M as my workstation which I got about 4 years ago apparently... time flies when you're having fun. It has 6GB of ram tho so the sticks are not identical and I do need that extra 2GB nowadays, researching through 25+ chrome tabs. Not willing to switch to Firefox now as well lol, using "The Great Suspender" chrome extension to help out. Bought a 8460p with the i7 - running Windows 10 for a great deal, £150. However, the relocated ports kind of work against my cable management so am not planning to switch soon. After all it's for studies not gaming or anything, I have a PS3 super slim for that😂 There is a 8460p listed as 8470p (it runs on i5 - 2540M) Single 4GB ram stick 120GB SSD (never owned or used a SSD!) For £50 bucks then postage, catch is that it does not power on, hope there is some sign of life at least with the lights or BIOS, so am looking into that. Even if I don't fix it, the ram and drive would prove useful. Fan looks a little dirty in blurry shot? We'll see, adiós😂
Aha, guess what? Just came across this video again and I made that purchase! Actually turned out to be a 8470p when I consulted with the seller and honestly by the time the "testing" was told to me I had the feeling this is all it was/came down to... This seller simply tried to use a "multifunctional charger" (or universal charger, whatever he/she called it) and stopped right there once the laptop didn't react to it. Bought it, used 8440p charger in a pinch as I didn't have 8460p charger on me, and BAM it turned on no problem... Fan was dirty but temps weren't even that bad if I remember correctly, surprised at how packed with dust some of these things get, especially a PS4 Slim I cleaned out! Didn't need to tamper with the warranty sticker to clean that thing and it runs like it's in space compared to taking off into space lool. (Major, major, dust blockage on heatsink & some bits in fan) Anyway back to the laptop, seller got it from a job-lot so no hard feelings there I suppose that I just got a £100 saving. Runs like a champ with its 120gb SSD that it came with, finally added a second HDD but it came from a PS3 that runs at SATA 150 (sata 1 basically) & 80GB capacity... Oh and also added 4gb ram stick to get that total of 8GB! Woo hahaha Can't be more happy, runs Dirt Rally 3 with a Logitech Driving Force GT steering wheel I just got for £45... I am master of savings xD
I have an i7 with 8 gig RAM. Been using it for business since new, recently put a 500Gig SSD into it, performs very well, solid, reliable and durable. Runs on Win 7 64 bit. Thinking of upgrading the RAM to 16gig, can't bring myself to sell such a solid performer.
"Alternative to modern machines?" "lack of an HDMI port?" Huh? Not only is this still very much a modern computer, but it also most definitely does have a digital video output. Other than that, I largely agree with, and perhaps more importantly, was entertained by, this review.
In case I wasn't clear, my point was that DisplayPort _is_ a modern, digital display output format. In most cases, it can pass HDMI/DVI through a passive adapter.
Bought a 3720QM, 16gb, 256gb one equipped with the better (1600x900) display for €400 in 2016, it was an ok machine but for studying not so great, as the battery life was awful, it was thick and heavy and the display was also really bad (tn panel). Funny to think that it sold for over €2000 when it was new, and in just 3 years it depreciated 5-fold
For movement acceleration you have to install the driver from Synaptics, with only the MS driver you will get shit. If I remember correctly I had to get the Synaptic driver from Lenovo.
Suave Beatz AKA Big Reek it will work great. I’m considering purchasing the same one. The reason ik it will work great is because my current music production computer is an intel atom tablet with 2gb of ram. So yeah it’ll do bro. And it’ll do it well.
In theory this is a fine laptop. (Good housing, ok-ish kb, good performance for soho.) But if you love your eyes, better get something else or use it only with an external monitor. The LCD in these is shit even for a TN panel. Dark (200 nits it says, I dont believe even that), no contrast, no latitude. Get the dock for it, give him two big IPS monitors and use it as a desktop replacement. (Add PS2 mouse and kb.)
i bought this laptop in October of 2021, i did drop it a few times, but not enough time break it physically. in February 2024, i downloaded fortnite on it to play with a friend, and it took forever to download, and once it did, it crashed. it would glitch out during matches, it would be black for a few days before turning on again, and it eventually didnt turn back on. so, if you want to buy a laptop to download games, dont get this one!!! other than that its an okay laptop

Most likely not, if you have the integrated graphics version, then definitely not, you'll need to use an FPS boosting tutorial or you'll be getting around 10fps.

A displayport to hdmi cable will run you a whole $10, just bought one for my 8470p and works amazing on my 32 inch $130 1080p walmart tv I also just bought to use as a 2nd monitor.
Sachin Somra actually i have taken this i7 processor from 3rd gen Lenovo thinkpad t430. So i swap my elitebook i5 processor in thinkpad and his i7 swap in my elitebook .
@@sachinsomra77 yes it is upgradeable. It's not a soldered CPU. You just have to pick one that's available on the spec sheet. I just ordered a quad core to replace the dual core that's currently in it.

You probably dont have enough ram in it. I had some issues running the steam variant of tabletop simulator on 8gb, maxed out now to 16gb and runs great.
Yea I had 8 gigs of RAM. Too bad I sold it. I mean it ran some decent little games. But it wouldnt run skyrim, or anything like that. That hd4000 graphics processor thing wasn't great. But it was decent for the 100 bucks I paid for the computer
@@bdub0983 head, the Intel graphics suck, it's part of the CPU. There were models that had a discrete Radeon gpu also, provided a decent boost on graphics, but today's software would make even that choke. I'm happy for my $100 laptop, threw in $100 worth of upgrades in ram/ssd/quad core CPU, and it'll continue doing what I need it to.
$100. Then replaced the hard drive with a free crucial 500gb ssd. Just upgraded to 16gb ram for another $50. And I have a quad core CPU on it's way to replace the dual core in it now. Great heavy duty laptop.
