Hey out of curiosity, I did buy a HP Elitdesk 800 G1 SFF since I wanted to build into the case, I found a 300w power supply that could replace the stock psu but I am having a hard time with the MB upgrade, do you know what size mb would fit in this case? trying to do like a sleeper build.
This was one of the easiest builds I have ever done. No compatibility issues or funky settings issues. This was the closest I've had to a plug and play build. I estimate whole project was less than $400. A great deal for a decent gaming machine. Thank you!
@@Face_RC yup MSRP for a 1660 S used to be about $230 USD brand new. Used ones are around $180. Now ppl are charging used ones for $400 at the very least lol. no thank you. I'll stay with my GTX 1050 TI for now. I might just buy a new PC when I save up more but I still like my i7-4790.
@@jaycampos3017 1660S for $200 is a great price if it's in normal working condition. Not sure why you would need it since you can't use it anyway without having an existing build.
Good guide and info. A lot of people out there want to upgrade these office computers as it's all they have. Most info out there is geared towards people with custom gaming PC's with no space considerations and high wattage PSU's. Showing what can be done with a little SFF PC is valuable.
Thank you for this guide bro! I really thought these sff's could only be compatible with old series gpu's, I just now found out that there are low profile gpu's for small form factors ❤️ really helped me a lot! 💪 keep it up
I have an Elitedesk 880 G1 i7 4770. Excellent educational instruction. Great to listen to someone open more doors to the available features for diagnosing and setting computer parameters.
This might be a dumb question. But I've heard that other SFFs have issues with putting GPUs in the x16 slot. Did you put the GPU in the x16 or x4 slot? I would like to get a 1650 to go with a 600 g1 prodesk but I'm not sure if it will fit
is there a difference between the GDDR5 and the GDDR6 versions of the GTX 1650 LP? just picked one up for my HP EliteDesk 800 G1 that's going into a modded arcade cabinet, and I was curious if the versions are different? thanks!
Just picked one of these up for $160, except its 16gb ram, i5 4590, and a256gb SSD. Pretty solid. I like the mini tower cooler in the G1 vs the G2 top mounted fan. As the tower one blows the cpu heat out the back. I just replaced the cpu TIM and installed a 1650, nice little PC. Can't beat it for the price.
I scored the same machine recently (2023) for $32. It came with the I7 4790 but I swapped it into an HPZ 230 that had the I5 4570. I swapped CPU's because the Z230 has a bigger 400W PSU. I'm still impressed with the 800 G1 SFF as it is still very fast with a SATA SSD and 16GB of ram. Was going to sell it but think I'll keep it instead. Didn't know these machines could be fitted with a decent (for the day) graphics card that requires no power cable. Thanks for sharing the tips on performance settings for the CPU.
the motherboard have hdmi, displayport and vga already, you don't need and adapter. And btw vga to hdmi or hdmi to vga doesn't pick up audio because vga transfers analog data only.
I have the same system and have just ordered 1650 LP after watvching your video, should i plug out the cable from the CD/disk reader to have more available power from the power supply for the 1650, or is that a bad idea?
i dont know if you will see this or not, but do u think it can run editing software like filmora or divinci, and do u think it can run minecraft and roblox and regular settings?
Yeah I don’t see that being an issue, I would run resolve on this PC in the past and although it can be a little bumpy of a road, it works pretty smoothly overall. You shouldn’t have any issues with those games either
So, I just got a 1650 low profile for my desktop, same exact one as you. Are you having any slow computer problems? Mine is so slow during bootup, it's slow during everything. I thought it might be the power supply, but I can't even be sure at this point.
try opening task manager and checking the cpu utilization. If the cpu is spiking up to 100% usage then that's probably it. Another thing that might cause slowness is the storage (hdd or ssd), maybe your storage is faulty and is running at 100%. Monitor those two and check whether that is the issue or not. Let me know what you find.
I realize I'm necroing a video but do you think an 800 G1 with the 4590 would be worth doing this with at this point in time or better to just start from scratch? 280 in with 2 monitors and a 1650 LP runs 295. So sub 600.
(just posting this agian just to make sure that you get it and answer) The one I have has a 240watt power supply, do you think with the 1650 graphics card would be too much??? I used a PSU calculator online from Newegg and it siad 247 watts, but I would rather listen to the professionals. Is your PSU the same and have you had any wattage problems so far? Do you think I should buy the 1650 and if not which should I buy?
Does the year of the pc matter or do all the versions of the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF have the same architecture inside ? I mean will the GTX1650 fit in any HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF version regarless of the year model ?
I'm going to buy a 800 G1, with 16GB RAM BUUUT, do you think it will be okay to add a Samsung 860 Evo 1TB and a MSI GTX 1050Ti Low profile???? :) I'm worried it won't work since it have like 240W :( Do you think i will work? :)
Possible but definitely not recommended as you would have to leave off the side panel, or figure out a riser cable mount, and there would be no way to secure the card
Sir, just a question since I have the same Elitedesk 800 G1 SFF however, mines the i5 version of it. If I get the same graphics card, do you think its safe to use the same built-in power supply for the desktop? Or do you suggest to upgrade it as well?
@@TechRoundUp Oh man I just saw this and sorry for not replying after year. Yes, my HP Elitedesk has a 240W PSU so I guess I'm safe with GPU and additional RAM upgrades.
@@TechRoundUp follow up question does any low profile GPU would work? I'm seeing GDDR3 and GDDR5 GPUs, would both be compatible with the HP Intel Q87 board?
@@TechRoundUp thanks for the answer sir! Would brands matter as well? Or would they be the same? Like for example a MSI GT 730 or a Galax GT 730, would those be a factor? Also , I'm not sure if the PC parts store are just telling me this to purchase a new PC but their telling me that GPUs wont work with my HP Elitedesk G1 SFF plus the stock 240w PSU.
Would you say this is still a viable start for quality gaming or video editing to date? And could you add higher quality parts? Thank you for this video m.
Yup, the 1650 is limited to the 75Watts coming from the PCIE slot and the CPU will pull a max of 95watts so your looking at 160W total. Through in the remaining system components and peripherals and you’d probably be looking at a little over 200 watts
Flight simulator is really demanding but the 1650 meets the minimum and recommended GPU specs so I would assume you may see around 60FPS at 1080p but I have not tried on the card
I know this is an old video but there are a few important steps that were left out of this upgrade that should be addressed before you put it back into service. When upgrading these older OEM systems being that they are several years old, you should pull and clean any fan and or CPU cooler and change the thermal paste on your processor. Also cleaning out any dust that has accumulated elsewhere inside the system (i.e the power supply). If you are using a used or pre-owned GPU, replace the thermal paste on that as well. Also, these systems are not WIFI capable so you would need to add either a USB or PCIe WIFI add on card if you need that capability. I upgraded an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF with similar components (a GTX 1050ti 4GB LP DDR5 card) but installed 24GB of DDR3 RAM instead of 16GB and it made a huge difference in system performance . This 4th Gen system outperforms a newer HP ProDesk 400 G4 7th Gen system with virtually the same components inside. That really surprised me. The Passmark scores for the 800 were over 4400 and the Prodesk 400 were over a thousand points less.
Would this application work in a ProDesk 800? I am not using this for gaming but I need to upgrade my graphics card to meet the requirements for Adobe Bridge and the current PhotoShop. Will I need a new power supply?
@@diegomaterano6352 These older systems just can't handle that kind of stress even after stuffing all the upgrades you can in them. They are limited by the BIOS and the bus speeds. They are DDR3 systems after all. Mid level gaming, video playback, data processing and internet cruising is what these systems are best suited for.
i got this pc with 16 gb ram, i5 4950, windows 10 pro, 1tb hdd, and a 256ssd, for $250, then bought an Asus Geforce Gt 1030 for $120 because in this gpu shourtage thats the best thing i could afford. so i just got a decent low-mid tier gaming pc for less than $500 but im going to use it for 3d animation.
@Mamodokod Wow! That's exactly what I was about to get man Though I was a bit worried since the pc comes with 240 Watts power supply and GT 1030 reccomends at least 300 W Then I started thinking about buying it then replacing the power supply of the desktop to accommodate at least 500 W so that the card fits without future issues Have you faced any challenges with compatibility of the 1030 Thanks
Nice video! I have a HP Elite 8300 SFF. Will this graphics card support a 24" 4k Wacom Cintiq pro drawing tablet? It works with the i5 but I can't utilize the 4k resolution.
Hi there , I did all the steps & all works great much faster but in the crystal disk test only reads 420 write 390 mbs Set to uefi etc etc , boots up in 10-15sec Running crystal disk mark 8-0-5 Seems fast but measures wrong huh, any ideas? Setup crystal disk setting same as yours too
Will I be able to fit in a normal rx 6400 itx? Since you used a low profile GTX 1650 and not many people really showed a video without a low profile card.
I’ve recently gotten this pc off a dude and ordered the graphic card but I wanted to know what kind of solid state driver (SSD) is in it? Just a basic HP 250g? Because the guy I got it from didn’t have one in it. Will it effect the game that much it have a 1TB hard drive it in?
Game won’t be affected at all outside of load times. I would recommend getting even like a 120gb ssd just for windows to make the system run a lot faster and then install games on the hard drive
Tech Round Up Alright great! I appreciate it, I see inside the pc that the power cable for the hdd and the one that sends information to the motherboard.. there are two heads for the one that send it to the motherboard. Does this mean I can connect my ssd to it and it’ll still generate power to it since those wires are all coming from one port connected to the motherboard?
Hello When purchasing my HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF (i7-6700, 16GB, 1TB, Nvidia NVS 310), I didn’t pay attention to the 200W power supply. The use of my PC is oriented towards image processing (2D), animation and video editing (School capsules). Today I am asking for your help to find a solution to my problem so that I can use a low profile graphics card (Nvidia gtx 1650, 75 w) without risk: - Is there a more powerful power supply, the same size and compatible with the motherboard? - Could the Nvidia Gt 1030 (30w) encode my video (FHD) better than the integrated Intel 530 chip? Sorry. This is only a Google translation. Thank you and good luck.
There’s no replacement power supply that will work with the hp motherboard, but a 1650 should still work but it will definitely be cutting it close with a 200w Psu rather than the 240w. And yea the gt1030 may draw less power and will definitely perform better than integrated graphics. Hope that helps
Great video! I just got this PC delivered. I'm not a big gamer, I was wondering if this PC could handle music production and video editing with that graphics card?
my desktop back in 1999 with Pentium III processor and 1Gig of ram can handle music production and video editing... so, this kind of question could only be asked by someone very young...
hey im not very computer savy but im trying to get my young son an inexpensive gaming pc, where he can play fortnite, Minecraft, roblox and use his oculus and would this comp be doable for this games i actually found this one model -used (Gaming HP 800 G1 Desktop SFF Computer PC Intel Core i5-4th Processor 16GB Ram 2TB HDD Nvidia GT 730 4GB Bto KB & Mouse Wifi Adapter Bluetooth Windows 10 ) would i still need to buy the gtx1650 u mentioned?
Pregunta amigo, tengo esa misma PC, pero noté que en la descripción de la tarjeta recomiendan tener una fuente de 300W y esta es de 240W la fuebte de poder. No hay problema con eso?
I have a similar PC. It has an i5 459, 8GB DDR3 RAM, a 500GB Samsung SSD which I upgraded myself, and a 1TB HDD for games. I might get the LOW-PROFILE 1650 if I find one available. Update soon!
Hi! Could you confirm if your motherboard version came with chipset heatsink and 4 VRMs for the CPU? Do you have current throttling while running Intel XTU stress test? Best regards.
There was no chipset heatsink on the board and what appears to be a 3 phase VRM. No throttling on my system, but temp would get warm (low to high 80s) after heavy load on the CPU. Never enough to throttle but definitely warm due to the cooling design of the hp.
@@TechRoundUp Thanks for your fast repply! So, no current throttling in Intel XTU during stress test? Is It possible to share your Cinebench R20 score? I have the exact same system, but I have current throttling if i keep turbo boost on. I know that there is a revised motherboard available with chipset heatsink and 4 phase VRM for the CPU. Thanks a lot!
Can I put the graphics card in an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 ustd (ultra-slim desktop) or is that model too small? If it's too small could I somehow upgrade it to where a graphics card would fit?
Hi! I own a computer like this, and I would really like to put a decent video card in it, I'm thinking about this gtx1650 or the new rx6400, I would like to know if it is compatible with this computer and which one is more worth it.
I have an elite desk 800g1 2tb hd, 250gb ssd, core i7 4470, 12gb ram. Will the GTX 1650 be a good installation for gaming without needing other components? Will I need to update anything else to run current games efficiently?
Temps for me get up to mid to high 70's on the graphics, but even in the low 80's the card will be fine. It could also be an option to double side tape in a small fan (92mm or under) as intake or exhaust.
Hi, don't you have to disable the Intel integrated graphic card in the bios also ? Is the Intel GPU normally in the PCI slot, cause in your vid the pci slot is already empty.
@@TechRoundUp So by just inserting the gtx1650 will it replace the integrated GPU automatically into the system or do I have to take some steps to desactivate the IGPU to avoid overlap between the 2 GPUs ?
I am tryna fit that 1650 to my hp elitdesk g3 sff witch has 180w psu. 80 plus platinum. In watt my calculation is around 155 165 w. But it can be wrong. What is your opinion? Thx if you help
Hey, since you add the graphics card in the old system and there is only 1 fan slot. Do i need a second fan on the graphics card? Would the graphics card overheat without a second fan or will it be fine
hello bro just want to ask if i can put this motherboard in a normal case and put a standard psu on it because i notice there is no 24 pin on this motherboard
Is my HP EliteDisplay E231 Monitor compatible with this? Already watched this vid 5 times just to make sure before I buy the gpu as this is my first time doing anything related to pc building being a poor high school student. Love the content!
Quick question, I need an answer. So the low profile graphics card in the description has been discontinued, so can I use a different one or does it have to be that one?
Hey thanks for the vid i was gonna buy a ps5 but now that i know i can get an insanely good pc for a low end price is amazing is this wasy to do or hard?
You shouldn't have any issues with the 1650 as long as it is low profile. If you are looking for something used you can always go for a GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti and maybe save a bit.
I’m confused… I have the hp elite desk 800 g1 sff and from my understanding to load this card Ill need to swap my power supply he did mention this at the beginning of the video but then he didn’t swap it? Or did he? 😂 can someone clarify?
brooo how are you not gonna include the CHARTS? most people running this type of build don't care about the max FPS, they wanna know the 1% lows and stability, especially since these type of SFF office beaters are often choked for power. especially in competitive shooters like these you have shown where consistency in framerate is exceedingly more important

I have the same GPU and PC although, I noticed I would get some lag spikes, could that be because I am running on a Core i5 4590? Would the i7 4790 dramatically increase the fps? I'm also running 8gb of ram should the minimum be 16gb of ram?
For a lot of modern titles you may want 16gb of ram, but for most games 8 will do. And the i5 might get 5-10% performance boost to the i7 and in game maybe 5-10 FPS dependent so probably not worth an upgrade
Hi Iwanted to know So a friend of mine is using hp elitedesk core i5 4670 With Nvidia 710 2GB DDR3 I am trying to upgrade the GPU in my budget and I was going for 1650 low profile or with 1650 super. @@TechRoundUp So low profile would work fine? I mean all the PCIE stuff would it actually fit and work in those little sockets? P.S. I don't have any knowledge regarding this 😂🤣
The 1650 will only draw up to the 75Watts available from the PCIE slot and the CPU will draw a max of around 90Watts for a total of 165Watts and with a hat drive and other system power usage you’ll probably be looking at 200Watts total and the PSU is capable of 240w so it should work perfectly
