To anyone still upgrading these, a tip for prying the bottom panel without a tool: slightly push the corner of a plastic card into the rear exhaust grill and lever the back of the panel up, it should snap off easily, giving you plenty of space to slide the card under the panel and pop the other sides. I've left a couple of scratches on the bottom and the side of my laptop trying to pry it from the front without a proper tool before figuring this out, don't repeat my mistake.
@@MohamedSamir-lm3cn I didnt buy it but in the shop the hinge was a bit lose for my liking. for 3D programs any gaming pc would do tbh, but if you want do some pro work screen color accuracy might help you find choose the best pc for you.

For your safety, make sure you disconnect the battery first before you do any upgrade to the laptop. Otherwise, you may set yourself on fire unintentionally. Also make sure to plug the battery last after all the upgrades.
@@victorsvidss Depends, if he is bending the battery or poking at it.. It might start a fire, but in that case you shouldn't be allowed to do upgrades anyway and are better of going with your HP Omen laptop to a genius bar at the mac store.
@@sloppyprogrammer4373 this HP laptop is easy to upgrade compared to 99% of the laptops out there. You gotta be pretty careless to start a fire somehow 😂
@@victorsvidss Haha, yes true. But you know, some people are really this stupid. In the past 12 years of my semi-pro laptop repairing adventure, I've basically seen it all.
*Warning* Do not buy the battery from the website that he linked in the description. I waited over 3 weeks for my package, all for it to end up being delivered to the wrong address with a completely different postal code than the one that I entered.
with smooth paneled laptops I use a suction cup and just pull on one corner after removing the screws and usually don't even need a splodgee to remove panel.
I purchased an omen laptop a month or so ago, but I’m having problems with the power supply. The brick gets extremely hot. I played a game (Back 4 Blood) which the laptop runs flawlessly, but the power brick was coming in at 160+ degrees F after about an hour. That was so hot it wasn’t safe to leave on the floor. I contacted HP and they sent out a replacement charger, which did exactly the same thing. At this point I’m thinking I’ll have to return the computer, since it’s not safe to use at its full capacity. None of the reviews I saw mentioned this as an issue, so I am very surprised that it hasn’t come up. Seriously, this brick gets hot.
I'm guessing the reason you don't want to put it on the floor is because of carpet or maybe pets? Mine does get very hot but I keep it on a shelf next to my table and it's still going strong over a year after I got it. Just make sure you let it cool off before you throw it in a backpack or something.
Hey Jarrod, I love the videos man! Thanks for the guide here. I have been having a hard time trying to figure out which 1tb ssd to go with. I have the Omen 15 intel version, so I assume using that Adata ssd in my laptop will do just fine?
@@JarrodsTech would it be possible tho? To go above 144hz as I believe they **things** that receive the data also have a limited bandwidth. Could be saying something dumb as fuck here, just correct if I'm wrong

I have the same laptop except mine came with only 8gb of ram. Found this video because I'm deciding on getting another 8gb stick to make 16 or to get two new sticks
If you're on a tight budget and willing to go SATA, then the WD Blue and the Adata SU800 are great choices. There's an SSD tier list spreadsheet somewhere in Reddit or LTT forum, maybe you can look it up
I think the new wifi only works with the new routers out...unless that was for something else. Another great vid was wondering if i should upgrade with the omen...the fan is always on though?
Been using this model for 3 years now, working like a beast! One question! I'm planning to add 1TB nVme m.2 in the 2nd empty slot, would it have any impact in terms of PC and gaming performance? Does adding extra nVme cause any burden to cpu/gfx card in general?
Thank you Sir . I have question please can you answer me? .. Can I change dddr4 ram 2666hrtz with ddr4 3600 or 4000 hrtz??? My laptop is msi gp63 leopard gtx 1070 8th generation of intel.. Yor answer important to me please.
Hp sold me this laptop with the worst possible issues that a laptop doesn’t notify you about (event,2 kernel tracing and event ,41 kernel power) and basically told me it’s my fault for not returning it within the 7 return day policy, but as stated before you have to go into windows event viewer to even see these errors I’m not a technician! So now months later my laptop is experiencing critical errors and I’m stuck with an almost unusable 1400 dollar computer
Tbh I would wait because I use my devices for a long time (7-8 or more years), but I also believe it would take time for the laptops to get released globally and would take more time to be in stock (probably months).
Hey, I'm fairly new to upgrading/building Pc's. I was wondering what RAM sticks to get for my Omen 15 en0xxx, your link for the RAM stick is out of stock. I don't want to buy the wrong ones and can't find any other advice! My laptop only came with 8gigs of ram in total. Thanks in advance!
How can you get 7 and 9 hours of youtube playback??? I've got an HP OMEN (dc0980nd) and i'm just getting about 1.5 hours. And yes i've got a new 70Wh battery :(
The same thing happened when I opened my Gigabyte Aero 17 for the first time. I used Krazy glue to reattach the clip and it's been fine ever since. I've taken the back panel off probably 2 dozen times over the past year and the repaired clip is holding strong.
I am facing dead pixel in my omen I have 1 year warranty Hp tells that they cant cover single dead pixel under warranty but the issue is that is on centre of the screen which is so much annoying 😥😥😥 How to claim the warranty hope u help me guys
If your taking upgrading so far, please remove the factory cooling paste and reapply it yourself. In my unit I found out these vram cooling pads were totally misaligned and the cooling paste on cpu and gpu could also be largely improved. Seems to me like a no brainer to do when opening up the machine.
@@Tumsaddict you most likely know your computer has normal RAM, feeding your Computing Processing Unit (CPU) with data. vRAM is the same thing, only then to feed your Graphical Processor Unit (GPU) with data, the ‘v’ in vRAM stands for video. vRAM can get hot running GPU intensive applications, that’s why there are cooling pads on top of them connecting them with your heat sink to provide some cooling.
I just wanted to say thank you so much! This video helped me upgrade my RAM to 32GB and get a 1 TB SSD installed. You're a lifesaver, I appreciate you showing all the steps and products.
In the future sometime, could you do a video on how to clean the vents and fans from dust build up? I understand it's basic stuff but I can't find a good video for this laptop specifically.
Hello fellow netizens. Im very happy to share that i have successfully upgraded the 60hz omen display to 144 hz one. I had to find 40 pin cable as the 60hz one has 30 pin. I have already upgraded everything shown in Jarrod's video. The display is lgdo5fe. 6.4 ms in mprt test. I sourced every part from a service personnel who works at HP. Display and cable cost me 4250 rupees or 58 dollars.
@@nishthagupta1357 i also upgraded the motherboard or is should say replaced it. My config was r5 1660ti and higher tier variant has same cooling and charger so i salvaged a ryzen 7 rtx 3060 motherboard and replaced it. Rtx 3060 is monster.
Bought an omen 15 around December of last year. After 2 months of use + league of legends gaming the laptop gave out a message saying "the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly". I've already looked inside of the laptop to check if there's some dust stopping the fan but found nothing inside. having it sent to the repair center, it seems there's a problem with the motherboard. It's being repaired as I type this message, but it's kind of a let down to have such a laptop stop working in a matter of 2 months after purchase. Just wanted to let people know...
@@Streudles yeah I'll admit they aren't very durable, and I think you mean Omen 15, I've had mine for a solid 5-6 months with minor problems such as battery life which led to frame drops
Mine has not had any problems, after 7 ish months of use. I think it has to be the manufacturing place. The only thing I can complain about is the buggy Windows installation but I think that is not Hp's fault.
Great guide and very much appreciated. I'm buying one of these in two weeks (Ryzen 7 processor with an RTX 3070) but I already have some 38G ram sticks and a spare hard drive, so naturally I'll be saving money by upgrading myself. Your guide is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you.
So which one has better graphics and performance? The GTX or the RTX? I bought the RTX last year not knowing anything about graphic cards i asked for gaming laptop they said the Omen 15 was go to because of the NVIDIA
Thank you for your great videos, Jarod! Your review made me buy the Omen at the end of 2020 and I could not be happier. I recently upgraded my ram, ssd and changed the thermal paste after 3 years of regular use. I'm amazed how fast the whole process was, thanks to your video and the design by HP :)
Is it worth it in Feb 2021? It's for around $1720 in India. Should I get it or it's better to wait for next Gen? Also It was launched last year eveb now we only get 10 20 piece, availability is so bad. What do you recommend?
Seems expensive but I don't know how much stuff normally is in that region. Next gen might take a while to come there too, but it may affect the price, hard to predict given next gen HP laptops with Ryzen 5000 have no ETA.
I purposefully bought the 8 GB model and immediately upgraded to 32 GB RAM. Also added a 1 TB SSD in the open slot. My thermal performance has tanked, I'm ready to redo the thermal paste but I've just been too lazy thus far. This laptop is awesome, though.
Imagine if NVIDIA and AMD started releasing mobile GPUs to the public, and releasing motherboards for laptops, and case manufacturers started releasing laptop shells with coolers included as well as screens. Everyone could build laptops they liked best.
i bought the rtx 2060 version, it come with 70wh battery, windows os + ms office, and 2 years insurance + ADP. So far i think this is the most worth it gaming laptop i can find
I also bought this.....for 1.2 lakhs.....6gb dedicated graphic card....1tb SSD......i am thinking to add another 16gb RAM ....since there are games which are releasing this month...god of war
I've never even considered HP omen until your reviews.. I now own the HP Omen 17-ck0020nr.. it is a rocket ship and I believe I am in love.. thank you for the reviews and enlightenment..👍
Hey I have a doubt (urgent !) Does the m.2 slot support only nvme or do sata m.2 work as well ? Most nvme are out of stock near my place and the ones left are dramless , so an m.2 sata is more convenient.
hello there! How can we know that, which things can be upgraded? and also can you please make a video on the upgrade options of "HP Pavillion gaming 16-a0024tx".
Hi. thanks for this video. Today my HDD in my OMEN 15 pooched out so I am online looking for how to replace. My laptop is a dc0030nr from 2018 and looks different from yours. If I am going to change the HDD, I may upgrade RAM too. My problem is finding out what parts can be added or upgraded. Even going to the HP site doesn't, I cannot find this info. When I bought the laptop, I am pretty sure I recall a reviewer like yourself stating the SSD drive and the memory is not up-gradable. Can you walk me through this? Here is my model, product number and serial number dc0030nr, 3WE66UA, 5cd8342nvq Thanks
Has anyone managed to upgrade the WiFi card? My Omen has Ryzen 7 and rtx 3070 16gb of ram. I was thinking about doing all these upgrades but I don't know what to buy, can anyone help me? Also, can anyone tell me how I can tell if the battery is the 52.5Wh one or the 70.9Wh one?
While this is great information as I have been informed on the options to upgrade my laptop which is very helpful. As of today I was wondering if there's a possibility to have an HP Omen 16 Upgrade Guide video?
Just been looking on Crucial for a SSD M.2 drive and they are unable to choose my Laptop. I would imagine that any M.2 drive would fit? Am I missing something??? HP OMEN RYZEN 4800
I changed the battery but i keep getting the cmos screen everytime and now when my pc shuts off i cant sign in for 2 hours because it keeps happening and may even shut off while off the charger out of no where when freshly charged. I reinstalled the battery and im certainee it out it in correctly after the 5th time, im so fed up
I have the same laptop but the intel i7 version. I was looking at replacing this but nothing really much have changed with the newer versions except for the GPU and they are more expensive now so I decided to just upgrade the 16GB ram that comes with it to 32GB plus adding 1TB SSD to the 512GB that comes with it.
Thanks for the vid! Q:I have an HP-omen laptop 15 ce-0xx and I'm getting low FPS for some recent games. Should I look to buying new 2x 16gb ram sticks? If so any recommendations? I'm quite new to modding computers
