Hello Dan! Great content as always. I'm planning to swap my PSU as well in the coming days and I was thinking of adding a bottom fan. I'm copying your setup by the way. I noticed that you replaced the bottom fan with the slim version. My question is did you swap it because the thicker one didn't fit? Thanks man! Towards the end of the PSU swap, I realized that the bulk of PSU’s cables made it difficult to fit the thicker fan, so I went with the slim 120mm. Thanks for your kind words and support!!
A massive thank you for making this tutorial. I bought an Omen 30L with Ryzen 7, 16GB RAM and RTX 3070Ti. but it only had it's OEM 600W PSU. I read in reviews that this could be an issue and after receiving it this proved to be true when it would shut down in game. Event viewer: Critical 41 Kernel-Power error. Looking for a replacement, I stumbled upon your video and went ahead and ordered the same Antec HCG Gold 850W. I've never changed these before, I've only owned a laptop until 2 weeks ago, so the learning curve initially felt vertical. I had to keep pausing your video but as soon as I became more accustomed to the task at hand, your tutorial was a godsend. I most definitely agree that the Antec cables are not forgiving, but the eventual completed outcome was pleasing. The PC fired up perfectly first time after about 3 hours of remove and replace. Massive thumbs up for the recommendation as well.
That’s so great to hear and I appreciate your comment! Once you replace a few things, you’ll see just how easy it is to build PC’s. They’re basically just adult legos. Glad to hear the PSU fixed your problem as well!
I have the 30L and this is happening to me now. Right in mid-game I get a 'signal lost, check cable'. message. GPU appears to be overheating all of a sudden. My card is a RTX 2060 Super but it only came with a 500W Cooler Master PSU. Why they are shipping systems like this, I do not know. It's my understanding that you need a recommended 650W for this card. I feel gypped as this appears to be a major issue with nearly all that have this setup with insufficient PSU.
Omen systems draw less power than most other systems, they actually limit power so the 500w you are using, is completely fine. I would triple check all connection on the GPU and motherboard. What temp is your GPU getting to?
GPU temp hovers between 89-95F IDLE. Lost Ark it gets up to 115-125F . Last night I played a graphic adventure with no issues. Can watch RU-vid, etc and no crash. Sometimes I can even stay in Lost Ark for a couple of hours before the ‘signal lost’ pops up. All other things like fans, RGB lights etc are still running but I can’t see the screen. Tried it with new cable hdmi on both tv and monitor. Same thing happens. Could it be an error caused by windows update? Thanks!

Not sure what other guides I can do for the Omen, I’ve covered so many 😀. I still do have a lot of content planned that may be helpful for you as well. I do plan on “reviving” the Omen as well at some point so that will be fun.
Big Thank you Dan. This helped me install my New Power Supply. It took me 3hrs after failing to route the Cables through the Back of the Case & I did something Stupid, while I was trying to string the Cable to the Top of the Mobo. That little Blue Fuse at the bottom of the Omen Board, I knocked that guy off and couldn't figure out where it went & Yup, I didn't take a Before Picture... Figured it out after watching Your Videos. You are the Man Dan, HP should show you some Love, Your Videos have more Knowledge in them then theirs and they make these Omens. Big Thank you Dan, I appreciate all the work you put in to make our Lives easier as Omen users.

Thanks for posting this! I just lost my 25L power supply. Shop was going to charge unholy amounts hourly to change it for me and I'm like "RU-vid it is!!" The stock one mine came with is only 500watts which pretty much everyone says is underpowered. So I'm hitting the Corsair 750e 80 Gold.
I mean the PSU that came with the PC from the day you bought it (in my 25L: coolermaster 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE ATX). Mine died recently and I was on the omen website looking for a replacement. It says this PSU is not available for retail because they have been specifically designed for omen 25L/30L only. So I was wondering if using any other PSU is good for the PC? Or maybe do you think there is a way I could order the PSU from HP manufacturing? Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks.
My only issue I had was I was not able to put my back panel back on. The cords for the psu were too chunky unfortunately 😢also the psu I used was a Corsair rm850x
@@DanKamYouKnow The original power supply exhausts air backwards. The new power supply exhausts air downwards, which means the hot air blows into the chassis. Will the chassis be too hot? Thank you
Hi Dan, You Know, I have to rectify a single thing regarding the width of the GPU in the Omen 25 L If you don't mind from my experience. I sold my stock GTX 1660ti a month ago, because I wanted an upgrade (and I didn't like the noise and neither that it was hot), so I went on and bought a RTX 3060 MSI Ventus 2x OC, which has 124 mm width. I had no problem fitting in the case. Then I thought this is too much power for me (initially I wanted the Rtx 2060, but the stocks were empty) for what I play (I'm not playing on regulary basis), and I sold the card, and bought a Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ on the SH market, which is enough for me. The thing is, that this card is much more wider than the previous cards, it has 135 mm, and surprise, it fits exactly, but this is the limit, so if anyone thinking upgrade the Gpu note that 135 mm width cards will fit. That is good information to know and thank you for letting us know! I think the main concern with GPU replacement is the total length because of the shorter cases. But it’s good to know that a slightly wider GPU will fit in the case as well. Appreciate your comment and greetings from California!

Thanks for the instructional video! I just got an Omen 25L and have plans to do some upgrades later on. Given the limited space behind the motherboard though, I might just spring for custom sleeved cables from Cablemod.
I know there isn't much room in the back of the case for cables management, but I think the CPU cable could probably go out the bottom and in at the top, just to make it a little neater. When I was dealing with that style case, the cable management left a lot to be desired due to the very shallow space in the back, but that is mostly aesthetics and a bit of airflow. You might also considers either some zip ties or velcro ties to tidy up the cables. Awesome videos, really like your style and the way you handle the camera shots. Looking forward to the case swap video. I've done a number of builds and personally consider 650 a minimum with 750 a sweet spot, 850 though is my general "go to" just to give room to grow, depending on the consideration. I also confine myself to 80% Gold at least, preferably I go with 80% Platinum.
I tried multiple times to route the CPU cable through the back but the top grommet near the header was too small and the cable was too thick ( back panel wouldn’t go back on ). This setup is only temporary because all of it is going into a new case next week, so I didn’t worry about cable management too much ( even though it does bug me ( LOL ). Yeah, I thought the 850w was a nice safety net, especially when I finally get my hands on a 3080 or 3080Ti.
When I did my case swap to the nzxt h510 elite this evening, I struggled getting the psu out because I didn’t realize there was a tab/rail there on the stock Omen case to hold it in place
@@trumpingtonfanhurst694 Got a cheap Pixio myself there a few months back, cheapest 144Hz 1080p IPS Panel monitor on amazon, and it really hasn't disappointed. For its price It really has exceeded all expectations. The picture quality is fantastic! The 144Hz refresh rate really makes a difference in games like CSGO. People talk shit about Pixio but for the money they make very solid monitors.
I’m installing a new psu in my 25L and I’m pretty sure the screws didn’t align because you mounted your fan facing up in the omen case instead of down as intended! Either way very helpful video!!
I replaced my PSU with an 850w Gold Corsair a month ago when I added my fans. Wish I had your video than. The PSU is a bit long but it fits just fine the bracket even locks still just barely. Still fit the bottom two 92 mm fans as well. I had trouble with my screws to the psu as well. I put mine down but it is longer than yours by almost half and inch I felt like that was enough to grab air from the mesh intake. I haven't had a problem. I was able to route all my cables in the back the case as a small crack at the front but it hasn't gather dust so I don't think it's impacting air flow. I'll be redoing my crappy cable management soon. My wife gave in and let me buy a scalper reference 6900xt after months of trying. I don't think we will be in a better spot with inflation and tariffs by next year. Hope I'm wrong honestly for many reasons outside GPUs. Here's to hawking my used 5700 for at least $600 lol (crazy to think people are willing to pay that). I predict reference cards increase by 25% or more once stock is back to a level where people can buy them. If I hit $600 on the gpu I made it flat after taxes and shipping. The only 4k cards that fit this darn case are AIO or reference.
I tried and tried to get my cables to fit in the back but the back panel would not of closed, and I couldn’t get the CPU power cable to fit through the grommet up top, so I just said screw it. I’m sure the PSU in both orientations will be fine, I’ll be case swapping here soon so I actually might not get a chance to try both methods and see if there is a temp change. At least you were able to get a good amount for your 5700, even though you overpaid for the 6900XT, it kind of evens out. How do you like that card? Seems like the most scarce card out there that I hardly ever see.
@@DanKamYouKnow It'll be here Friday. I'll let you Saturday all my thoughts from a newbie installing it to some benchmarks. I'm on the Ryzen 7 3700x still with the stock cooler. I added a 120 mm fan exhaust on the top as well as two 92mm on the bottom probably gonna end up taking one out if I have a sag problem to create room for a solution. Really interested to see if this big boy heats my case up too much. I tinkered a lot to get my CPU temps where I wanted them (as we all have had to). May need to flip my top fan to intake so it blows on the CPU. I'll reply again Saturday. I'm beyond stoked and the closer I get to the card coming the less I regret being a victim to the scalp. It's nice to finally stop searching and trying to buy. Months of grinding and coming up empty. My only regret will be if I'm wrong long term and these cards stay at their prices and become easy to purchase.
I purchased the 750w Gold Corsair with dimensions of 150mm x 86mm x 160mm. I was wondering if I should return if after watching this video? but if your 850w fit I guess I'll be ok . Great Video Dan!!
The length may be an issue and possibly won’t latch into the case. Also could be a problem with getting all your cables to fit in at the bottom of the PSU is too long. Let me know how it goes for future reference if you install it.
Thanks dude. Yeah, I wasn’t sure on this because if it’s facing down, it’s semi choked off but positioned at the top causes some strange airflow. Stress tested yesterday and no change in temps compared to before
HP tried to make the PSU in the Omen proprietary. On the bottom they punched out some metal to block it from being transferred to another case... A hammer and punch and two minutes will flatten this part out allowing it to be installed into another case. (Really annoying you have to go to this extreme) Also the PSU cables are very short. I was barley able to make it work on a Fractal Design Meshify S2 case. If that case didn't have a ton of routing ports this HP PSU would have been worthless. In hindsight I wish I would have just bought an upgraded PSU that was more efficient and had a better airflow. The HP PSU seems to be a smaller design of a PSU from the 90s....
HP made almost everything in the Omen proprietary. They made the PSU and length of the cables specifically for the Omen case. Especially because the Omen motherboard is so weird with the 24 pin on the bottom of the board and other differences ( from panel connectors, etc ).
I don't think I could upgrade my GPU on my specific HP Omen motherboard which is the Dorado H470. It looks a little different than yours. My front ch fan header port looks like it would be blocked off if my GPU extended more horizontally.
Has anyone upgraded their GPU on this stock power supply? I am wanting to go with a 3060ti but it recommends 600w. From what I read is 500w may be enough if the power supply is well built.
So is there any reason to avoid an sfx power supply except price? They seem a little more pricey but definitely smaller, which would be ideal in a small case like the 25l (and even be able to add more fans at the bottom!) Since they usually come with an atx adapter it shouldn’t be an issue. Also speaking of fans at the bottom. Would there be any harm in drilling some holes in the bottom to help with airflow? Always amazed that you reply to all your comments. Try to search and see if anyone has asked before commenting
It just seems unnecessary to go with such a small power supply, unless you find yourself going to a small case in the future, then it makes sense. You might be able to fit another fan down there but honestly, it won’t make a huge difference in airflow and temps. One 120mm fan as intake at the bottom works just fine. You might see a minor benefit by adding another one but not enough to pay more for the SFX sized PSU.

Congrats on the new PC and thank you!! My best advice is to remove the bracket at the top of the case and monitor where you’re at with temperatures. If they are too high for your liking, you could always start adding and replacing fans but that’s not always necessary as the PC will most likely run safe temps. Thanks!! Yes, you can use that GPU with an Omen, the processor won’t matter. You can also swap in a B550 motherboard, but it has to be a Micro ATX motherboard to fit in the Omen case. I’ll sub to your channel to give you some motivation to keep on making content 👍🏻😎
Did you have to get the cables separate from the power supply or did it come with them? Also does having the new cables change the cable management or is it about the same?
Yoooo!! The majority of fully modular power supplies ( like the one I put in ) will always come with all the cables you need! Cable management with the new PSU a cables was definitely a little more difficult, but manageable.
Thank you so much for all the tutorials you’ve made on the omen! Quick question, I want to get a new case and motherboard. Do I have to re download windows 10? What issues would I run into or it is pretty self explanatory. I know I can put everything together. I’m just worried on bios and if it would run with a new motherboard.
So, Windows is tied to the HP motherboard so you’d have to get a new copy of Windows to install on the SSD that you decide to use. I’ll be filming my case swap and motherboard swap next weekend so I’ll have some great info on how to do it. You’ll basically need a copy of Windows and all your motherboard updates downloaded on to flash drives.
I ended up returning all the Noctua equipment I had ordered the bracket that was given didn't work properly with that heatsink hoping they can work something out they were unable to accommodate I have an omen as well. They were unable to accommodate. I was really looking forward to it cooling the computer definitely a nice build
Some PSU fans will turn on and off periodically, depending on the load of the PC, totally normal. If it never spins at all, then you may have a faulty PSU
Nice dam, I just got my 30L 2 Weeks ago with rtx 3070 and now i‘m following your tutorials installing the noctua cpu cooler and some additional fans especially on the top of the case. Right here i have a question - how did you place the second fan on the cooler? Did you buy a clip or something? I really was searching the internet to learn when to upgrade the power supply - but it seems that you only need it if you replace the gpu. I just have the standard 500W PSU. Do i have to replace the psu when i install additional fans and that cpu cooler? Greetings from germany - stay healthy 'cause we love that informative vids!
The Noctua coolers come with the secondary clip to attach another fan, although the 2nd fan is not included. Thanks for the support and greetings from California!
And you do not need to change the PSU if you are only adding fans / cooler. The 500w PSU is more than sufficient. If you’re going with GPU that requires more power, then I’d recommend swapping out the PSU

Thx for all nice videos! Regarding placing the PSU with the fans upwards…. did that work out? Heat blowing upwards towards the gfx card and heat blowing downwards from the card fans towards the PSU. Not ideal? Im gonna replace my PSU in my 25L. The PSU fan has started to do the ”click sound”. Drives me nuts 😂 Also the "Max measurements" you wrote are wrong. The original 25L PSU is the following: Width 15 cm, Depth 14 cm, Height 8.6 cm. Where depth can be longer...
My PSU measured exactly how I have it on the screen. This video is also several years old and my Omen is from 2020 so yours may be different. The PSU can’t face downwards because it would be completely choked off, there’s no ventilation holes under the PSU. It worked just fine with it facing up. Before changing the PSU, I’d recommending just getting rid of the case.
Mine is from the same year as yours 2020 if its the 25L case we speak about. And just measured the Coolermaster PSU. (They are also still the same in 2024. I sell these as a retailer. Have a few in the store) Im fully aware of the none vent. Was mostly curious how the temps worked out for you. =) All the best.@@DanKamYouKnow
Hey, having a 45L i'm also trying to swap my psu. I was wondering if you ever tought about the motherboard not being compatible ? It seems crazy that it wouldn't, but the fact that they have their own motherbeard and we don't have any informations about it triggers me lol... Maybe the motherboard has a limit of power that it can handle idk. Love the video btw
Does the default PSU come with an 8-pin power cable? Im looking at the new omen 25L but I want to swap the omen's rx 5500 (4-pin) with my current rtx 2060 super
I may need to do this.. My psu is clicking when I Switch it off and sometimes fails to boot up.. Have you ever had an issue with sleep mode with this Omen.?
Sleep mode issues have plagued Omens since I got my Omen ( April of 2020 ). Seems like they still can’t get it right and I recommend just turning sleep mode off. PSU clicking is actually normal for the Cooler Master PSU’s they use, a lot of people complain of a very audible click when the PSU fan turns on and off ( which is normal operation ). The failing to boot is hard to know what it might be. Does nothing happen at all when it happens to boot? Or does the PC just turn off after trying to boot?
Thank you so much for this video, it's certainly made my PSU upgrade process much easier. But unfortunately it's not entirely successful. I have an Omen 30L GT13-0024 with a factory PSU of Cool Master 500W. It wouldn't power on one day no matter what wall outlet or power strip I plugged into. So I went to buy a Corsair RM750e and replaced it following this video. The computer worked for the first 10 hours non-stop. Then the following day it wouldn't power on again. I re-arranged the cables inside so they're not snarled and after making it neater, it powered on for at most 10 seconds before turning off again. No strange sounds. This can't be the PSU's problem right? The only thing that I plugged in wrong is, instead of using the same SATA cable for the RGB and the hard drive, I used 2 separate cables for them. Would that really affect the powering on of the computer? I will try to redo that part tomorrow but if you have any advice, I would really appreciate it! If not, no worries. If you can get the PC to boot, check event viewer to see what exactly happened. It should say why the PC shut down randomly. Could be another hardware type issue. If the PC is less than a year old, then I would contact HP for warranty purposes

I’ve actually got all parts ready to go! I’m going with a Fractal Meshify Compact 2 / Gigabyte X570 board / Antec PSU / WD m.2 SSD.Swapping over the CPU, GPU, and cooler from the Omen. I don’t think I am going to sell the Omen. It’s the PC that for my channel started so I think I eventually want to revive it with some new pets eventually, or put the case on display somehow 😄

Thanks for the response and swapped everything out without any issues except for my Corsair icue h100i elite won’t get recognized by ICUE software and it’s because I don’t have a USB 2.0 on the motherboard it’s not there so I’m wondering if I can use a NZXT Internal USB Hub to be able to control the rgb everything else works great I got good temps
Hi Dan, I purchased 750W PSU from Cooler Master, fully modular as the one you've installed in the video. You mentioned custom made cables. Where can I get them, I'd like to have my cables neatly packed on outer surface of the rear panel as HP recomends.

Just saw your messages on Discord. I have been using this same GPU to this day ( not in the Omen ) in my main rig. Powering a 3080 and 5900x. Any PSU’s by Seasonic, Antec, Corsair, EVGA will all be good
*Thank you for your video, it was very helpful, I only have 1 question:* Everything works fine, i can use my pc normaly but if i try to access to the bios, pressing shift restart or from windows. It makes a noise and it keeps loading in a black screen, any idea? i tryied removing the motherboard battery, wait 5 min and put it back in.
Where are you hearing the noise from? What do you mean by “pressing shift restart or from Windows”? The BIOS is accessed by tapping F10 on Omens usually. Nothing really to adjust in the BIOS anyways
K so I swapped my PSU, reconnected everything, plugged it in, hit power switch, the fan on the CPU spun for a sec , ticked, then I hit the power button on the PC and nothing🫤 no lights on PSU or anything. What am I missing?
Super late to this thread. I love the videos and have been upgrading my own 25L for a little over a year now. I made the same mistake (super new to computers) but figured I’d try it and it fits and works just fine.
my omen 30l has been crashing every time i open anything that is intense. it just goes to a black screen but the sound stays on until you restart the whole computer. would this be a psu problem?
If the PC is less than a year old, I’d reach out to HP. Going to take some diagnosis to figure out what the problem may be. Could be numerous hardware issues. Try to run a hardware diagnostic through the BIOS. ( keep tapping F10 on start up )
I bought the same power supply for my Omen 25L i have the intel one and I'm having issues. When I plug the first part of the LB55 Daisy chain into the RGB controller neither the 2nd nor 3rd parts of the daisy chain are long enough make it to the bottom hard drive slot. Also the top part of the PCI-E cable is way too stiff to bend down, it just pokes out of the case which means I can't put the door back on, I'm trying to put in an Zotac RTX 3070 twin edge into my omen. I don't understand why I'm having these troubles when you are able to do everything just fine.
Strange, The SATA daisy chain should plug into the controller with the first plug, route through the back and then easily reached the top and lower hard-drive cage. While stiff, the PCIe cables should be able to flex quite a bit but with that new GPU, you may have less room than before.
I was gonna get the Omen 30L with RTX 3090 but the card didn't look like a RTX, after some inquiring I realized HP uses their own make for the GPUs in their system. I have a HP Omen Laptop with RTX 2070 and it's awesome no doubt but for a desktop I'd rather not chance the house make for GPU as it looks small and possibly not able to dissipate heat enough? I'm not sure can anyone chime in..
The HP GPU’s still have Ray Tracing, if that’s what you’re asking. The problem isn’t with the cards ( they’re completely fine ), it’s the case that has bad airflow. The Omen GPU’s perform just fine. I haven’t personally used one, just word of mouth from people in our Omen users Discord group in my description.
Late comment but if I swap my current rtx 2070 for a rtx 4070 with dimensions: Width: 126 mm [MAX WIDTH 115mm] Height: 50 mm Length: 261 mm Can i just install this, and get rid of the glass panel to make it fit in?
hello thanks for the vid but i have a question the width of the card is it really that small lika a normal 3060 ti asus dual wouldt fit than ? and can a 3 slot card also fit thanks in advance !
You've gotta see what the measurement is of the card you are looking at and see if it fits within the specs that I listed in the video. Omen case is very small so a lot of cards do not fit, especially 3 fans cards
In the first couple minutes of the video, I post what dimensions will fit for PSU and GPU. You gotta look up what the dimensions are for those and compare 👌🏻
Hi Dan! I just put that bottom 120mm fan, the rear fan from noctua as well as the top fan into my Omen 30L 0704ng. As i play Rainbow Six Siege with the Fan Speed on "Normal" my cpu temp was around 70°. Would you consider this as ok?
I see you're still milking as much content as you can out of that pc. I gotta say though, I cant get enough of the content and I can't wait for you to switch the case.

Hello Dan thanks for great guide, I just bought 25l but as soon as I load a heavy game the monitor lose signal n only option left to get it to work is restart. Is there any way I can confirm that fault is due to psu or could it be the 2060 it came with?
@@DanKamYouKnow thank you Dan I install ddu and also tried from original nvidia, the system is awful quiet and I only saw fan on psu running couple of times, Contacted the vendor hopefully something they could do so I don't have to return as i liked it very much
750w is completely fine but really depends on the GPU you have. If that’s what your system came with, then that’s fine. Can you explain in detail more about the black screen? When does it do it? How long? Tried different monitor cables? Different ports on your GPU?
Well, the GPU cable that comes with the PC is hardwired into the Omen PSU ( it’s not removable from the Omen PSU ). You’ll use the cables that come with your new PSU.
Where you having any trouble with your sata cable thats plugged into HDD being to tall and hitting the glass when you try to close the case? I recently upgraded to a evga power supply and I have to really press down on the glass to get it to close. Im putting alot pressure the sata and HDD connection. Any recommendations?
So I used the PSU SATA cable daisy chain that was supplied with the PSU, and I didn’t use the end plug, but the 2nd to last one so it sits flush. If you look in the video around 17:30, you can see how it’s plugged in, and the end part is tucked into the hard-drive tray. The last plug on the daisy chain won’t clear the side panel, so use the next one in line which sits much more flat.
Hiya buddy I am thinking of upgrading my omen 30l graphics card currently have the 2080ti an thinking of replacing with 3080ti I know I would have to change power supply cause its only 2 8pin power for card an needs a 3 8pin question is would the card fit in my case thanks again buddy for the great videos
Hey just a quick question, dont know if you still see comments from this video but did the power supply thay comes in the system have a modular power supply? im looking to replace the cables for a black and white look, or will i have to switch to a new power supply, thanks!!
Omen PSU is non modular, so you would have to do extensions but honestly, there just isn’t enough room in the case and it would look extremely cluttered with extensions.
