I have two of these tablets (one is older) and was able to swap the batteries in them so that I could reload Windows 10 from an SD card via an OTG adapter. To remove the battery (w/o damaging it), pull the blue tabs outward towards the end of the tablet and the adhesive strips under the battery will release and pull out. The adhesive strips are removable just like the plastic "3M Command" brand style removable adhesive wall clips . That is much easier than attempting to it pry off which could easily damage the battery. The battery connector lifts straight up and off when picking up the battery and not outward like a pin style connector would. I have a Y style splitter OTG that I ordered from Ebay www.ebay.com/itm/Splitter-Cable-Power-USB-HOST-Y-2016-Female-To-Micro-Male-Female-Adapter-OTG/253597330795?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 but it still didn't power the tablet while using the OTG adapter so it was necessary to run off the battery during the Windows and HP drivers installation process that didn't automatically load. I used a powered USB hub to plug in the SD card, mouse, & keyboard which were all needed to load/configure Win10 on it and I'm sure this helps the tablet battery last longer by not drawing power from it. I haven't thoroughly searched and found a place that sells these batteries (new/inexpensively/w/ the same connector) nor have found a way to get the tablet to run on external power via the OTG adapter, so if anyone knows, please chime in!
Good details. 1 year, perhaps you already found the solution but you can find battery replacements on amazon, and if you want to avoid that, I found instructions on how to run the tablet without the battery. The device won't boot but you can plug a different power source as long as it has the 3.7v with enough mah, it's about 2000-3800. The user reporting such fix could use the tablet continuously freeing the usb port then. Good luck. 1)why didn't you just get a new screen and digitizer on ebay? people are always selling parts for broken smart devices there. Travis Boyko Sorry to be a bother again, one last question. did you notice when you had this tablet that free memory space would disappear by the hundreds of mb? I mean I keep seeing the free space disappear by the hundreds of mb and I'm not sure whats gobbling it up. I have all windows updates turned off. I don't update any apps. so I'm not sure where these mbs are going/getting used up. Do you happen to know if the HP company does OTA software updates and if they do..how do I turn it off? Cuz I almost feel like that's whats happening here. I know where and how to turn ota software updates off on android devices but again, I'm unfamiliar with windows smart devices and how they work.
Its acutally cheaper to 1) buy the same tablet new then it is to spend 200+ on accident dmg warrantee 2) Buy the same tablet new then it would have been to buy the Display panel and front casing (the drop made the display panel leak ---------------- 3) windows Store for Xbox, mobile and Windows Store will all be under 1 roof as well as crossplatfourm apps 4) free space on any windows tablet will slowly get used up.. Why... PageFile, Windows Updates, Hibernation, system restore points. This is why its a good reason on windows tablets to do a weekly disk cleanup as well as system restore point clean ups... This also happens on Notebooks and even towers ect... Things like towers don't use hibernation though... personally Windows tablets should NOT be any lower then 64GIG in size.. and always remember to keep at lest 20% of total space free.. rule of thumb .. Treat all windows devices the same.. Treat your Win8.x tablet like your desktop...
also, I hear windows will be unifying windows phone store, windows desktop store, and xbox into one store with window 10 later this year. at least that's the rumor.
